Since vampirism can be considered a "magical" disease, compared to mundane, I thought . . . why not have a vampire paladin/monk/celestial envoy who goes around like the comic book character Constantine- damned, but seeking redemption? The only issue I might run into is if celestial envoy loses their abilities the way a paladin does upon not being good anymore. Not sure if this is the case. Thanks for your ideas and input ![]() |

Aren't vampires inherently evil ? Some struggle and manage to get to neutral, but I doubt paladin is an option. And celestial immunity to disease is probably intended to protect from vampirism anyway, "magical" or not, right ? |

Vampirism is inherently evil, as it drives you to feed on living creatures. It'd be also very hard to play a Vampire who's channeling the positive/divine energies of the gods... and mechanically, AFAIK it moves you toward an evil alignment, which disables all of your alignment-tied divine features. However, if you want the whole redemption idea, half-fiend would be a much better option. |

True. Generally most redemption characters seem to want to have a full character abilities from their classes. And vice-versa when redeemed... I've only ever come across one that was willing to forgo the class abilities(self-modded) with this plot-line, without having had abilities removed by DMs. Were you asking in terms of your Paladin/Celestial classes effectively being a weaker versions of a very basic Fighter (Fallen-basically substitute barbarian levels), for example? -and then rebuilding if you do in fact get to the point of redemption. |

There is some precedent for undead paladins however, just probably not vampire. |

You would lose your paladin ability when taling the first level of vamp, but would you lose the celestial envoy abilities going neutral? Also if you ever made it to redemption (LG again) would you lose your vampire abilities? |

I think it would be safe to scrap the idea. Thanks for the input

Thing is, Planescape and D&D as a whole runs on an alignment-based cosmology where symbolism is represented physically, which is why demons are never goodly under any circumstances and angels who do evil will literally cease to be angels. Vampires are likewise heavily involved in symbolism, probably moreso than any non-planar creature. Vampires are the antithesis of life, hence sunlight and running water (symbols of life) harm them. Meanwhile, things related to death (blood, coffins, etc.), are nourishing to them and creatures related to death (wolves, disease-carrying rodents, etc) can be commanded by them. The notion that a vampire can be good or want to seek redemption doesn't fit with what vampires are. They don't have souls, they don't have a sense of morality and any feelings they once had are replaced with a will to corrupt and destroy life, usually by propagating their own existence. It's also worth noting that vampires spread their kind in the same manner as a disease. |
