Hellfire Warlock?

Is Hellfire Warlock any good?

I got a vampire Warlock right now. He's got 10 vamp, 2 hellfire and 1 fellblade. I'm using hideous blow as a melee lock. I realize chain and blast would be better for damage, but he's doing all right as it is.

Things is the hellfire seems negligible. It's a possible 4-24 damage in the first attack, if it hits. Eventually that'll be 6-36, but I'm wondering if that's worth it in melee.

I mean, am I just dumping a class by not using blast? It's just that things get so laggy all the time, I can barely aim him in to a group just to fight.

On the other hand, turning slaads into chickens has been fun!

Warlocks are infinitely better when using Eldritch Chain or Eldritch Doom. You won't lose that much if you skip it with a melee lock.

By the way, pro tip for aiming:
1) Go to Options/Keybindings
2) Bind Find Nearest Enemy and Perform Default Action (I use T and Y)
3) Spam those two buttons to auto-attack the nearest enemy! Or just you Find Nearest Enemy and press the Blast's hotkey
"From the realms below we ride,
And in terror they run and hide,
From the shadows of old we rise,
Awakened, from the dark!

Over the ancient ruins we fly,
Where the old kings go to die,
And the new kingdoms rising high,
Awakened, from the dark, dark slumber!"

Hellfire adds 6d6 damages for 3 levels at the cost of you taking some damages each time you use it, I think it's fairly worth it if you can manage.
- Kala Ta'Kan : Factor of the Beleivers of the Source
- Ash (Kazuko Yudeoshi)
- Safana Washedan
- and many other alts.

It has decent synergy with both vampire regen and Fellblade's Curse: Hideous Blow, in that both abilities will regen any lost health from a hellfire-powered Hideous Blow. That said, Fellblade is only powerful with all ten levels of the PrC, imho. And you need enough AB to actually hit things, consistently.
Therein lies the problem, to my mind. Hellfire Warlock has medium BAB progression. Fellblade has high BAB progression. Via Maleficus has medium BAB progression. If we go just by 10 Vampire (Maleficus), 2 Hellfire, & 1 Fellblade, then we end up with a mere 9 BAB from that. And whatever BAB you receive from however many warlock levels you have. I believe your BAB will be VERY LOW for a melee*. See this NWN2Wiki article for BAB progression info and note the section on multiclass BAB progression as well: http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Class_progression

*Personal note: I do have a melee warlock. 2 of his classes are High BAB progression (Fellblade 10 & Marquis Cambion 6), & he is Strength-based (which adds AB). Of course, you can a similar deal out a single weapon Dexterity melee warlock build.

Great! Yeah, full progression will be 4 lock/10 vamp/ 3 hellfire/10 fell blade.

I messed up with the fell blade requirements so I ended up having to take another warlock and start the hellfire early. Otherwise I was going to wait to get hellfire after I got at least three levels in fell blade.

I am shooting for that fell blade vampiric hideous blow and vamp regeneration. Definitely should have gone in for more strength though. May have to rereroll.

Well, there's 2 ways to do it: Strength build with martial weapons (which you need for Fellblade anyway) OR Dexterity build with Weapon Finesse. Strength will generally result in more damage though, in my experience. And I highly recommend only using a single weapon. You'll be a glass cannon, but meh.

You could do something wacky, like a spear build or a bastard sword build; but I highly recommend you do not.

Haha, yeah, that makes sense. So as a Melee Warlock, are you ever able to throw around the curses too? Or are DCs just too low? Right now I have his charisma up to 26, he can reach a natural 28, more like 27+5 from gear for 32.

However, if I take him from 16 starting to 15 starting I can actually get some strength in there.

What do you think? Mainly I just want him to be able to turn a devil or two into a chicken to continue with the witch doctor status.

What is a good balance between the charisma and strength? Or is it even possible? Should I just choose one?

Don't bother with Charisma as much. Really, with Cursemaster, you should do ok with curses. Unfortunately, you won't do as well as a pure DC build though.

Should be possible.

I went Strength over Charisma.

Edit: In all honesty, I don't feel like Hellfire Warlock has a lot of synergy with Fellblade. You may be better served dropping it and grabbing 4 levels of fighter (for weapon specialization). Morthos' build is a warlock-sneak build.
