I've been wanting to build an archer, maybe a little cheesy, for a few days now and so far, I've come up with zero ideas on race and class progression. I'm usually just winging it and seeing where it goes from there, but right now? I could use a helping hand in figuring out something viable both early on and likely end game. Please and thank you. |

As far as I really appreciate there are 2 main types of archer. Stealth/ Sneak attack archer Or Arcane archer. First one involves 10 levels in Rogue for crippling strike, atleast 9 levels in assassin / Slayer of Domeil and whatever you want in the rest. The latter is more of a fighter/wizard/arcane archer/eldrich knight sorta thing Main difference is the type of damage you are applying. Arcane archer can cast wizarding spells and gain elemental bonuses to their arrows ontop of the normal stats as well as apply their spells on-hit to their arrows. (though only to a select number of spells) Rogue is more based around stacking massive amounts of sneak attack and using Multishot (in which things like theif of the guild and stuff help, but you have to be closer to apply full damage and some things (until you get epic precision) wont be harmed this way |

21 Ranger, 9 Assassin. HiPS everywhere, fast HiPS outdoors, and multishot sneak attack damage for days. And there's also the lolzy part of if an enemy fails their save against your death attack you get free sneak attacks until they die. |

I've never really been sold on ranger. It does give additional AB and attacks per round though. |

I had a great time with an ogre mage fighter/sorc/AA. It's feasible to get your strength high enough to take advantage of the mighty +10 on dragonbone bows with the racial prestige. Same could be said for a troll, giant, or ogre ranger...+30 physical damage on a multishot just from the +5 bow isn't anything to scoff at, especially because it doesn't care about sneak immunity or elemental resistance. Add into that potential elemental damage, aligned arrow damage, or sneak damage...good hits. You're not going to be out-damaging WM/FB or dedicated EDM, but it's good fun and it's less dangerous that wading into melee and less rest-dependent than EDMing. Plus, the early levels aren't painful because you have a high str for meleeing, can wear some good armor, and if you go troll or ogre-mage, you have some natural AC and regen to keep you going. |

Some other very viable builds: Ranger/Fighter archer: make sure to get ranger up to HiPS and fighter with enough levels to take epic focus/specialization on the bow. In outdoor settings you'll be running while HiPSed and using improved rapid shot, manyshot, and judicious uses of one shot (taken as a bonus feat, not through ranger) probably never have monsters get close enough to you to hit you. High survival helps with this in areas like Carceri, letting you see on the map where stuff is spawning and how it's moving, helping you to avoid large clusters of enemies. Zen archer: this will require investment in a good bow, and really tends to be secondary to your buffs, but is an alternate way to make due with a divine character. Very difficult build to work out though. EDM archer: here's the dragonbone bow again to make use of your STR bonus; save your EDM for difficult enemies like bosses and enjoy the crazy damage. 6 Levels of ranger to get manyshot and rapid shot without needing the innate dexterity score; take point blank and you can take improved rapid as a fighter feat. You'll never have one shot, but why do you need it? Stick to melee classes for the most part for maximum BAB, especially if taking a high-LA race or template for its ability bonuses. Paladin or Blackguard to qualify for EDM, or Cleric if a "base race". |

EDM Archer and or Ftr/rng are my cups of tea. Could I get a general attribute progression for either one please? And as for high LA? Would either of those work with a +3 LA race? |

You really don't need to be all that fancy to make a viable archer, as long as you can get a good bow. I've played a human Ranger 21 / Fighter 8 (In that order) and was useful all the way to Carceri. |

I think the EDM archer is the real cheddar of NWN2 archery. The rest is mostly just fair game, like sneak attacks are tied to immunity mechanics. |

Start your Str and Cha at 16 if you can (and an LA race could come in handy here, because remember your attack bonus with bows is tied to Dex). And remember that the dragonbone bow will max out at +10 Str bonus, so don't go too crazy with your strength score. It's a balancing act. I'd suggest starting with the ranger levels to get the free feats (racial enemy Outsider, of course). Fighter is going to be your mainstay here, as you'll want to invest in additonal feats: point blank shot, weapon focus/gr weapon focus/weapon spec/epic weapon foc and spec/power critical, as well as the normal ones people like to have such as blindfight. Able learner might be worthwhile as well, as you're going to want to pump points into survival: remember the best part about archery is starting combat with your enemies so far away that they're dead before they can run up to you. |

EDM Archer: Pick Favored Soul, don't bother with Dex beyond 17 because you can buff up your AB to sky high levels anyway. Take Manyshot/Improved Rapid + EDM = Win. |

If you're a favored soul, archery is kinda secondary since you'll be more or less unstoppable to begin with. But don't forget Cleric, Blackguard, or Paladin to qualify for EDM! |
