Bab+attack Progression; How does it work?

Hey guys.

Just a small question here.

How does the attack bonuses accumulate?
I mean, running a high BaB char with a single class gives you a new attack every 5 levels(6-1 at level 6, 11-6-1 at level 11 and so forth), this I know.

But how does it work when you multi class? Because the wiki states that even if you multi class classes of the same BaB, it only stacks the BaB itself and NOT the attacks.

So how many attacks does a 7 giant - 10 fighter - 10 frenzied bezerker get? Cause Im really a bit confused here. Does he get the full progression up to and including the full 6 attacks, or is it less because of the "cut-off" points at class level(s) 11, even if all 3 classes are high BaB?

Thank you all in advance.

Baal ;)

27 bab so 6
The realization of what I am occurs in the timeless awareness which does not stimulate nor delude. I create a field without self or center, a field where even death becomes only analogy. I desire no results. I merely permit this field which has no goals nor desires, no perfections nor even visions of achievements. In that field, omnipresent primal awareness is all. It is the light which pours through the windows of my universe.

What the wiki means is that for low/medium BAB classes, BAB only really starts progressing after you take your second level in the class, so a Cleric 7/Druid 1/ Bard 1 still has 5 BAB/1 APR despite the fact you have "enough" for 6 BAB as they are all medium bab classes.
A Cleric 8 would have 6 BAB, same for a Cleric 7/ Druid 2.
If all your classes including prestige are high BAB then it just stacks right from the first level so it isn't a problem for your build combo. A Fighter 5/Ranger 1 is the same as a Fighter 6 or Fighter 4/Barbarian 1/Ranger 1 as far as BAB goes since they are all high BAB progression.

That explains it quite well.

FIRST QUESTION:

To calculate how many attacks per round you get:

1. Look at your BAB score
2. First attack per round is what your BAB score currently is
3. Subtract 5 from this, if the number is greater than 0 this is your next attack.
4. Repeat 3 with your next attack until the number is 0 or lower.

Examples:

16 BAB:

Start with 16, subtract 5, get 11, subtract 5, get 6, subtract 5 get 1:
16/11/6/1

5 BAB:
Subtract 5, get 0, must be greater than 0 to count so:
5

6 BAB:
Subtract 5, get 1, subtract 5, won't get a number higher than 0 so:
6/1

In table form:
Code:

BAB (n) + Attack Bonuses / per rounds
0-5         +n
6-10         +n / +(n-5)
11-15 +n / +(n-5) / +(n-10)
16-20 +n / +(n-5) / +(n-10) / +(n-15)
21-25 +n / +(n-5) / +(n-10) / +(n-15) / +(n-20)
26+         +n / +(n-5) / +(n-10) / +(n-15) / +(n-20) / +(n-25)

SECOND QUESTION:

Each class gets a BAB progression from either:
LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH

1. HIGH: Anytime you add a class level with a HIGH BAB progression you gain one extra BAB.

2. LOW: You get a BAB from this class for each EVEN level you have of it.
For example, Wizard is low BAB, so if I have 3 levels Wizard, I get one BAB on 2, and zero BAB on 1 and 3.

3. MEDIUM: You get 3 BAB from this class for each 4 levels you have. You always lose the BAB on the first of this group of 4 levels.
Code:

LEVEL: 1   2   3   4 5    6   7   8
BAB:    0 +1 +1 +1 0 +1 +1 +1

Cleric is MEDIUM, if I have 4 cleric to my build I get 3 BAB, if I have 5 I get 3 BAB, if I have 6 I get 4 BAB, and so on.

So to add it all together say I'm:

10 Wizard, 13 Cleric, 7 Fighter

Fighter: HIGH BAB, so I get +7 (one for each level)
CLERIC: MEDIUM, I miss BAB on level 1,5,9,and 13 so 13-4= 9 BAB total
WIZARD: I get BAB every even level, 2,4,6,8,10: So total 5

So putting it altogether:
7+9+5=21total

So since you always gain 0 BAB for LOW at 1 and 0 BAB at 1 for MEDIUM

If you played something like
1 MONK / 1 WIZARD / 1 CLERIC / 1 ROGUE
They all get 0 BAB at first, so you'd have 0 BAB even though you're level 4.

They all get 1 BAB at second level, WIZARD would not get BAB at 3rd, the rest would; Wizard Would get BAB at 4th as would the rest. You just think of them individually and add them all together.

High: +1.0 /level
Med: +0.75 /level
Low: +0.50 / level

Round all fractions down per class, respectively, and then add them together to get BAB total.

EG 1:

Wizard 3/Cleric 3/Mystic Theurge 4

Wizard BAB = 0.50 x 3 = 1.5 round down = 1
Cleric BAB = 0.75 x3 = 2.25 round down = 2
Mystic Theurge BAB = 0.50 x4 = 2

Total BAB = 1+2+2 = 5 (one attack at +5).

EG 2:

Warlock 9/ Fighter 2/ Fellblade 4/ Shadowdancer 5

Warlock BAB = 0.75 x 9 = 6.75 round down = 6
Fighter BAB = 1 x 2 = 2
Fellblade BAB = 1 x 4 = 4
Shadowdancer = 0.75 x 5 = 3.75 round down = 3

Total BAB = 6+2+4+3 = 15 (three attacks at +15/+10/+5)

That's how I've always calculated it

High: BaB every level
Medium: 1/4th BaB progression - bab for three levels, no bab one level, bab three more, so on.
Low: every other level.

Keep it simple, guys.

It's not that complicated.

I think you could have offered a briefer version without also trying to bring other people down for giving help. We were just trying to our best to help out. Thanks.

Thanks guys :D
That was some pretty awesome replies and I got full answers to all of my questions :D
What more can you ask for?

I especially liked that I got both a very simplistic answer that a simple proletarian such as I can comprehend, but also the more in-depth, calcules-way which require a lot of computing to figure out, but also gives you more insight into the mechanics behind it all ;)

So thanks a bunch guys. Much appriciated :D :D :D
