Could Gargoyles Be Allowed To Use Weapons?

Hello, my main here is a Devil built around the gargoyle race. I noticed in the creation menu it says gargs have No Manual Dexterity due to animation issues, but testing on local client has shown they hold and use weapons with no real graphic issues. There are two other race choices on this server, hezrou and mindflayer, who can wield weapons however they float two feet away from their hands.

In short, is there a chance the NMD feat could be taken off gargoyles? I've collected a bunch of cool weapons on Kyzburkzurl I'd love to try out. Thanks.

Seen it for myself, there's no valid reason for it to be on Gargs, unlike Modrons or other races that are lacking animations. Even if there were a balance concern, there's far nastier things out there than a Gargoyle rocking something sharp and pointy. Gargoyles even have a functioning ranged animation.

The reason for No Manual Dexterity is that the model can't wield weapons (or rather, it can, but it has no animations and it looks stupid). So unless we ignore that, there's no real way to circumvent it.

It does indeed have animations and holds the weapon just fine, it's as simple as going into client and changing your model to gargoyle.

That's not the case, however. Go make a test Gargoyle right now and try to equip a weapon while stuttering about until it works, then go try hitting a dummy. They not only have animations, they have more than half the creatures that are permitted to wield weapons, like Hezrou, who just use unarmed animations instead.

I'm not sure this is an entirely accurate test, as the model used on the server may not actually be exactly the same as the default NWN2 model. :nod:

Hezrous were allowed to wear weapons because there are 2-3 giant weapons that fit well into their hands.

Hi, I haven't played here in a long time, but I'm the one who ensured that Gargoyles couldn't use weapons or shields. In the OOC room of old, I showed that they would carry shields parallel to the ground, and clipping horribly through the player model, as well as most weapons just plain not angled correctly. Unless someone spends the time to tweak the model and their animations, they won't be able to use them.

Its my understanding that no manual dexterity was applied because of visual anomalies, yes.

So if there -aren't- visual anomalies, then I don't mind if someone wants to remove no manual dexterity from a given race. But it sounds like in the case of Gargoyles there actually are some issues.
