Don’t you just love poker? Yes, poker is distinctly American. Here some variations named after US cities. We all know Texas Hold’em, but what about others? Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati... Baltimore I know this game as Pineapple of Crazy Pineapple! The game starts a bit like Texas Hold’em before it gets weird. To begin, deal each player three face-down cards followed by a round of betting. There is a three-card flop. Players must discard one of their hole cards when they see the flop and enter a second betting round. Two more cards are dealt to the board, which is followed by a third betting round. Finally, every player is dealt a single face-up card, and there is a fourth betting round. In the showdown, players must use at least two of the three cards in their hands in conjunction with the cards on the flop. Buffalo Stud Each player receives three face-down cards; the remainder of the game is dealt like 7-Card Stud, but all face up. In the showdown, a player may use no more than two of his three face-down cards. To compensate we humbly suggest the Cool White memorial version of Buffalo Stud, in which face-up queens are wild, but cost a dollar to keep. Gotta love the Sabres! Cincinnati Like Baltimore, Cincinnati is a variation of Hold’ Em. Judging by the way it’s usually written up, it seems to be a precursor of Hold’ Em -- probably a variation on Spit. Deal each player five cards, and another hand of five face-down cards in the center of the felt. The central cards are community cards, and can be used in any player’s hand. Turn over the first community card before the first round of betting. Expose the second card, have another betting round, and so on for all five cards. In the showdown, a player may use any combination of the five cards in his hand and the five cards on the table.
