The Suitcase Man By Derrick Oliver www.highrollerradioshow.com He wanted to test the Binion’s claim that it would book any bet, no matter how large, as long as it was your first bet. He wanted to test that claim to the tune of $777 thousand…and he did. William Lee Bergstrom, from Austin, arrived at the notorious Horseshoe Casino with a suitcase full of cash, hence his nickname, ‘The Suitcase Man’, and has since become a modern legend. Straight to the craps table he went. Placed all of it on the ‘Don’t Pass line. The shooter established the point at six and sevened out two rolls later. For Bergstrom it was a quick $777 thousand. He left. Few hours later, he came back, placed a single bet, and promptly won another $590 grand. He left. Twice more he left and returned posting respective wins of $190,000 and $90,000. The story doesn’t end well. Bergstrom’s most famous bet was placed circa 1984 for a cool $1 million. Again, he lost. Three months later he shot and killed himself at a Strip hotel...$647 thousand ahead -- at casino gambling. Crapped out I guess in the game of life. ![]() Article provided by Derrick Oliver @ www.highrollerradioshow.com High Roller Radio Forum |
