Can I get some mustard on that….. www.highrollerradioshow.com He was a Montagu. Perhaps a bit uppity and from England, John Montagu spent years travelling across Europe, assigned as Secretary of the US Navy. Commissioned to rebuild the Navy as a good war-force, John had a lot of downtime and often found himself fighting boredom. Now, sometimes when you're bored you might try to create your own excitement and such was the case with our chap John. He quickly became entangled in some sketchy activity and was involved in some minor corruption cases. His wife was murdered by someone unknown thugs. Montagu delved into a deep depression. A sad man, Montagu went on these gambling sprees, what alcoholics might call a binge, that kept him up for days. N Thing is, he wouldn't eat. Once went for days without drinking water, not even a sip. This odd, peculiar way of life often worried Montagu's servant. It couldn't healthy, gambling and fasting. So, on this occasion, when Montagu was on a three day spree, no food or water and gambling, his servant suggested Montagu eat some beef. Beef was his favorite. Montagu declined, only because he didn't want to leave the table. His obsession, his compulsion with gambling had the better of him. The quick thinking servant decided to slip some beef betwwen two slices of bread and slide it toward his boss. Montagu loved it, even asked for another. His opponents tried this new invention. They enjoyed it. It was a great invention. It was the sandwich - born over a three day poker game. ![]() Article provided by Derrick Oliver @ www.highrollerradioshow.com High Roller Radio Forum |
