CAC's JK 4 door build

Well, after drooling over all of the great jeep builds here I decided to join in. I started building my own JK 4 door. The body works out to be 1/8.5 scale. (Based on the wheelbase of the body)

Here is a mock up of what I'm trying to do.

Here is my first attempt at making the frame rails. I got some 1/2" x 1/2" steel tubing (1/16" wall) and bent it using a torch. Then I cut the bent tubing in half the long way. I still have alot of work to do on these rails.

I want to do independant coil springs on all 4 corners. The spring sits in a small "spring pot" that's mounted on Axial axels. I'll need to make some pots on the frame to hold the upper end of the spring.

Here's an update.

I mounted the upper spring pots to the body for now. I think I will end up braizing some plates on the frame to mount the springs to. I want to keep the ride height fairly low so I can keep the suspension links short.

You can see in these pics that I need to cut a bit off the front of the frame so the bends line up with the wheel well.

I think the ride height will end up in this area. The combination of the Axial axels, the Crushers and the 2.0 Soft8 wheels is perfect for track width. The tires should tuck nicely when the suspension articulates.

A few more pics of how I want the suspension to end up. After all is done the bottom of this rig will be begging for some undercoating. Has anyone tried the spray on undercoating you can get at the automotive store?

real sweet looking jeep. i like that everyone has taken a slightly different approach to making a chassis for this body. allows lots of builders to show thier style. great work.

as for pimping your stuff, we dont really have a vendor spot yet, but you could be the first. :nice:
