I have been reading through rcjeep.com for a while now and have a couple scale crawlers of my own. Since I have been looking at all the great builds here I knew I had to build a Wrangler scaler. First thing I have to say is everyone on this forum has done a GREAT job on their builds. Sooooo many great ideas have been going through my head on what I would like to do on my build. I think I have just about everything I need and won't spend much time typing what I have done & what I am planning on doing. I will post pictures as I make progress, and would love comments or ideas for things on my project. The last thing I'll let everyone know is I am a Jeep nut! I am on my 5th Jeep now and hoping to get back into a late 90's Grand Cherokee as a toy and set it up for off roading (it'll bring me back to my TJ & Cherokee build I had built. Enjoy the pics & feel free to comment: What came in the mail Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image I have the chassis together and she is now a "roller". Not too happy with the RC4WD red soft leaf springs. Too soft. Posted Image Posted Image I'm not sure if there is enough room for all the required equipment. Receiver, Speed control, light control unit, etc. Posted Image Posted Image The body will have to be trimmed to fit on the chassis. The front bumper is going to have to go. Posted Image Posted Image The RC4WD red leaf springs are really soft. You can see how the truck doesn't sit level. I'll have to get some helper springs to keep her up & level. The only issue is it will loose much of it's articulation. Posted Image I would like to work on the interior of the wrangler and start cutting the fenders making them into tubed crawler fenders simular to: Posted Image Posted Image |

Very good start. Maybe some dampers (shocks) would help with your soft leafs? Maybe even some shocks with internal springs to add a bit of stiffness? That is where I would start. Are your axles the D35 ot 40's? |

He has D40s. I much prefer the D35s but the 40s have one advantage over the 35s which is 100% High Lift internals compatability. Which makes getting spares a whole lot easier. Nice wheels ;-) I really like this chassis from RPP. I actually abandoned my own Wrangler chassis design because it was very similar to this and they did a great job. |

I am looking for a set of scale shocks. RC4WD shocks are very unscale. Any ideas where I can pickup a set of really scale shocks? For colors I am planning on painting the body yellow, the hard top will be flat black, and the fenders will be black also. For the interior, I am planning on painting it tan. Well that is the plan at least for now. I am running D40 Axles. I have been using and trying different axles, my trailfinder is runnning the Yota axles and for this build I thought the D40's would be a good fit. Working on the steering linkage. Gotta do what I can to keep it scale. Posted Image My Traxxas tie rods off of my TMaxx aren't working, Another trip to my local hobby shop for linkage. After I got back from the hobby shop this is what I ended up with. I used one of my Traxxas tie rods from the servo (covered with black electrical heat shrink) and the long black tie rod is also a hopup from Traxxas. Looks pretty good. As you can see now that I am putting weight on the chassis the red leafs are struggling more and more. the servo head is hitting the pumpkin when articulating. I ended up getting some Tamiya helper leafs off ebay and will see if those will help out. Posted Image To keep everything scale I picked this up: Posted Image It is from RC4WD, I don't think I will use the blinkers but the break lights, Back up lights, and the head lights will be utilized. I have also picked up some 3RACING LED's for the roll bar lights. Posted Image |

Very nice build, I have a similar RPP build but my red springs are quite stiff so I am guessing a different batch  |

Nice work. For smaller shocks you could go with turned down TLT's or the aluminum upgrade shocks for the Losi MRC. :nice: |

Looking good. I would go with some turned down tlt shocks with INTERNAL springs. That way it doesnt look like you are running coils and leafs. That will help with your sagging leafs. On another note, that light kit is gonna be sweet! I am liking where this build is going! |

The frame is from RPP Hobbies they call it their Outback. I beleave it is the most realistic frame out there that I could find. Be careful, they have 2 frames. one for the tamiya jeep wrangler body & one for the HPI jeep wrangler body.. The frame for the Tamiya body utaliizes leaf spring suspension & is more exspensive. The frame for the HPI body uses upper & lower link suspesion and is a bit cheaper. http://www.shop.rpphobby.com/product.sc?productId=1626&categoryId=162 Edited by caronaxtr, Aug 8 2009, 02:27 PM.
