Hi, time to show you another :jeepy: , somehow special by its conception. Initially I was on the way to build a Trial Truck in 1/14th scale, but sometimes thinks change. The main idea was to do something different, more technical, something that requires brainstorming. So I managed to realise: 2-speed gearbox diff locks front and rear rear wheel individual brakes independant 4-wheel height adjustment on a 245mm / 9,5” wheelbased ( like a short XC-chassis ) vehicle. The whole built took 3 years, lots of trail and error, but in the final a well-working offroader. Biggest issue was space, 9 servos ( 5 standard size, 4 minis ) , the gearbox and the battery had to be integrated in the chassis. Technical specs: TLT axles with remote diff locks RC4WD Mud Slingers Robbe 2-speed gearbox 4 servos for height adjustment Novak crawler esc + motor combo 7,4V 5100mah LiPo Brixlcontrol 2,4Ghz Bluetooth Tx/Rx Homegrown twin plate chassis Pics of the first mockup, with Plexiglass chassis plates Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image After a long time - I bought a house, priorities had changed – I found the time to continue the built. A provisory ( definitive ) chassis was cut, the axles, gears and servos went in their places. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image It’s a runner, finally. All electronics were installed and it was time to go for the first outdoor tests, without body of course. Posted Image Posted Image Turning circle: 67cm / 26” Posted Image Posted Image First Body-on shots, had an old, used and abused Wrangler body lying around Posted Image Posted Image Couple days later, sanding, a little paint and ready to go Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Suspension in Low position Posted Image High-rider Posted Image Sort of crooked, like the builder Posted Image Test drive in the garden Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image And a little video showing the function of the suspension and brakes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaDtkkTVi8I That’s all for now, thanks for watching Serge Edited by mudzuki, Nov 20 2009, 04:50 PM.

hmm... very interesting! i appreciate what you did, but i wonder if its actually needed. when all is said and done, i think the center of the chassis is to low. regardless, that is one awesome rig! :yiaks: |

Hi, thanks for your comments guys @ Joe Chassis isn't so low, it's somewhere between 1,5 and 2,5" depending of the needs. Center of gravity is low too. @ Jeep 4x4 the plexi chassis was nice, but flexed too much sideways. I shreddered it on the first test run. @ WildTrial Flex isn't that much, about an Inch per axle, but with the servos you're able to climb on obstacles, that makes great fun. Cheers, Serge |
