Early days really to post this thread but i have just got my first key parts and wanted to post it up.
I will update as i go and with luck it will take less time then cxc is with his  Although it won't be anywhere near as detailed as that quality build, fact! as it's my first scale project.
Maybe i'll go for a real detailed scale build next time when i know more what i'm doing.

I have, what started life as an ax10 with all decent electrics, (novak esc and 55 motor, dx3 tx, lipos, etc) which will be a donor.
I am even considering different axles now and i hav'nt even started :banghead: , but to start i'll carry on with the axial axles. I am sure there will be a lot of mind changing along the way.
I don't even have any 1.9 wheels or tires yet.

Two things that won't change are the hardbody yj and the toxic chassis that should be shipped out this week :nice:
So here's what i'm starting with and everything else so far is subject to change  .

The aim is to make a semi scale of my 1:1.

As always any tips, ideas comments are always welcome.

Thanks chaps :nice:
I will certainly add pics as i go. There is a bit of trial and error, but hopefully after reading may a thread on scale builds not to much error.
Don't suppose this build will be massively different from a lot of yj builds, apart from the fact it will be MY yj and my first one

CXC, i do have a few pics. I'll get some together and post some up in the 1:1 section.

You know, i have never even seen a tamiya yj body before in the flesh and i am blown away by the detail, excellent!

With that body and one of those "poisonous" chassis, you'll be in for a real treat. You're absolutely right in your thinking...the more you build, the more you'll learn - and there ain't nothin' wrong with that either. Axial make some nice stuff to work with, too. :nice:

If you do decide to scrap those axles, shoot me a PM.

It's fun to duplicate your 1:1 :jeepy:

Looking forward to it coming together! :wohoo:
1:1 Jeep...1974 J20 pickup
1:24/1:25 scale Jeeps...probably every one ever produced, and some scratchbuilt ones, too!

This arrived yesterday (Thanks Justin @ toxic) :jeepy:
I just put the springs on to see how it looked, so you will notice no nuts are on the screws.

I'll have a couple more pics up later of where i started to chop up the body and remove the hardtop :yiaks:

A couple of shots of the body so far,
My 1:1 yj originally came with a hard top which i removed and now run with a bestop soft top, keeping the stock full hard doors (hard stock half doors are as rare as hens teeth in the uk) although i do have some soft half doors.

It took a while using a blade and cotton, but worked out ok...........apart from the slip with the knife that nearly took the top off my thumb :banghead:

I'll be keeping the hard top for those cold winters

Thanks guys!
Strangely i can't see where i'm going with this, or at least stick to a plan. I keep changing the goal posts each time i look at it. One minute i have a plan, the next it's out the window :yiaks: Not sure which tire, axles, transfer case etc it's driving me mad.
Some things remain a given though, like the body/exterior.
Here's what i managed to get done this weekend, aimed at my 1:1 rollcage, (which is based around the stock frame with additions), so this 1/10 is hopefully going to be pretty similar.
There is a little more to do yet before the cage is finished, this is the main part done.
The main frame ie stock yj cage section is 1/4" solid tube and the forward section 3/16" solid, i was going to use hollow to keep the weight down but decided to go with the strength of solid, all the next bits to come on this i will use 3/16 brakeline.
