There wasn't much you could do this early in the season, gardening wise, but it would be interesting to see what, at least, survived the winter. Rémi appeared as a single point of light in the night, gas lantern in hand. At least he had the place to himself. Small comfort. Sure, this was when vampires were active, but who wanted to willingly walk through this graveyard. He didn't.

Everything on the ground was still mostly covered by snow, but it had started to melt off a number of the statues. He stepped carefully around the broken remains of a few of them, almost tripping over an arm buried beneath the snow. He came to a stop in front of one of the more notably in-tact statues. Welp. That was still depressing as fuck.

It didn't look like there were any new ones, if that were of any comfort at all.

After a few moments of quiet contemplation, he carefully reached out for the poor woman's hand, which was outstretched and held in a rigid claw; some vain last attempt to save herself from her fate. The lantern swung back and forth in the night, sending eerie splashes of light across the already stifling quiet of the snow, and blinking off the other partial remains of statues in the vicinity.

He hooked it carefully on her thumb. Her fist was curled just enough to make it look intentional. Convenient. He'd found it a better option than trying to balance the lantern on a rock, or rest it on some other statue's back.

((I'm keeping this thread for slow posting in between classes; might be half text replies, art mostly going to be traditional with no backgrounds, since I still haven't found the time to get comfortable with a replacement to Photoshop (which is still broken and crashing any time I try to use a tablet in it BT). ORP??))

Posted ImageRémi started with harshly pruning back most of the bushes, especially the larger, more spindly growths, clearing the majority of the dead weight for hopefully a healthier bloom.

He moved on to clearing some of the snow, checking to see what had survived the winter. He'd planted a few perennials, but the results looked grim. He wasn't surprised, but there was no shame in replanting. There was some new growth sprouting up from a few places, where the snow had better insulated the ground; he dug up a few of the healthier perennials, root clumps and bulbs, splitting them and reburying them with more space to flourish.Posted Image

Standing up to brush the dirt from his knees, he wandered farther from his light-holding statue.
He remembered planting moonflower along a bench, so it'd wind up and cover one of the crying vampires seated there. Seemed like a good idea at the time. He wasn't sure how "artistic" it really was, but the rusted, overgrown aesthetic jived better with him than the usual depressing graveyard that was this garden.

He spotted the bench past a tree, and as he approached he initially mistook Gloria for a new "addition" to the "artpiece". ...Well, he could always plant morning glories on the other side--wait, nevermind, that was a person. He stopped dead for half a moment before walking a bit closer.

He realized half a pace later that lurking behind a tree at someone was unbecoming. And rather unsettling for them. Better not be an absolute creep about it. The frenchman stepped out from behind the trunk.
Posted Image"Eh--sorry," he said, low, but managed to keep himself from muttering it, although he didn't look right at the woman. Instead he leaned forward a bit to inspect the statue. Inadvertently making it look like he was speaking to the stone woman instead of the flesh woman; lack of social grace at its best.

Not even a vine. He'd hoped the vining perennial would be hardy enough, but not even the insulating snowcover here had been enough--it was just too cold, he supposed. Or this town was cursed to bad gardening as well.

It was an adventure trying to figure out what he could grow... There weren't too many books, and of course this was a farming village; the residents didn't have much use for flowers.

Posted ImageWell, now he DID just feel like a creep. Wasn't he the king of social interactions. He hadn't heard much of her one-sided conversation--it wasn't exactly polite to eavesdrop, and what did he gain from it?

Rémi straightened up, raising a hand in what he hoped as a reassuring gesture. He took one step out from behind the bench as he spoke. "Ah--sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."

"I was looking for..." He looked down again at the bench leg--where nothing had survived the winter. "Ah, I z'apose it doesn't matter," he concluded softer, more to himself.
