debunked!
ESP, Telekinesis, other Pseudoscience
By: Georges Charpak and Henri Broch

My sister and I got into an argument about psychic power one morning last week and she demanded I read this book. I'm about halfway through it.

It's got a lot to do with theories of coincedence and statistics which actually really pisses me off because I'm enrolled in AP Statistics this year and I hate math.

Has anyone ever read this book or heard of others like it (skeptic theories)?

The book was a big opposer of pseudoscience and uses statistics as a way of explaining so-called psychic coincedences (as mentioned before). I actually did like it. I was just really mad at my sister. I hate arguing with my sister because she's so stubborn (then again, so am I). The book exposes a lot of hoaxes, like for example the special alloy used for spoon-bending that someone mentioned in a Psychical Research TK thread. It also bashes the generalizations of astrology and those annoying horoscopes.

The authors would get along with the creators of skepdic.com very well, and they are probably also a supporter of Occam's razor and the ad hoc hypohesis. ( http://www.skepdic.com/adhoc.html)

LOL

Told you, Fallen...:

<---- Antichrist, duh.

The most interesting fact I learned was... oh man.. hm. It was the way the authors ended up talking in the end as if pseudoscientists and astrologists were part of an extensive unconscious conspiracy of maintaining a society of vast stoopidity among the masses exploiting the supernatural trades of our ancestors such as horoscopes and dowsing, all in a selfish effort to eternally exalt themselves in psychic spoon-bending glory.
