Recently, while on holiday I read my first Harry Potter book, previously only watching the movies.

Unfortunately I skipped the second last book, "Half-Blood Prince", but after reading "Deathly Hallows" (even though most of the characters die) *sad face*, I'm dying to read all of the books now, even after I've seen the movies...

Any other Harry Potter fans out there? Would it be worth getting the whole series?

Yip, consider me a fan of the infamous Harry Potter. The last book is absolutely amazing, all the twists in the plot and how the whole series falls into place, and answers all the questions about the characters...

A 10/10 here!

I read them all, its a good series. I wasnt overly excited about the ending to be honest, but everything leading up to it, right from the start, interested me.

At the end of the first book I already had questions, and more and more came along as the series progressed. Its pretty absorbing, I'd recommend reading them all.

My personal favourite was "Goblet of Fire" btw ^__^

Only the one unfortunately, but it will surely be an entertaining read, getting all those small little details, the film industry can't capture.

I have to agree about Goblet of Fire. Good reading and much more absorbing than the movies.

I will definitely start at the beginning and read all of them. I haven't completely made up my mind about the ending. Still in shock after reading how many characters die in the book! Won't mention names, don't worry, but I cried more than once.

At least most questions are answered in the last book though, as I had many just from watching the movies.

Never got around to reading any of the books. I've watched all the movies, enjoyed it to its fullest. But I've heard people say that it's much better reading the books, the watching the movies, as the books go into more detail and depth about the story than the movies can, and incline to agree with that.

Wanted to buy a harry potter book once, but wasn't sure if it was worth buy, as people tend to make a big hype about a book, and when you read it, it's not as good as you wanted it to be.

Maybe I should just go ahead buy the first book and start reading the series.

Read 'The Prisoner of Azkaban' as a kid before the movie came out, and while it may have entertained me at the time, I have personally come to the conclusion that her writing is mediocre to say the least.

Every respectable higher fantasy novel needs an epic journey as far as I am concerned, and Potter falls short there in my opinion.

Everything is relative I guess, what works for some might not work for others.

I will stick to my Terry Brooks when it comes to Fantasy.

Sounds like a start in some direction, will have a look at the Prisoner of Azkaban.

In general I like reading when it comes to something fantasy of Psi Fi. What books can you recommend from Terry brooks?

There is one Book by J.K Rowling that I just can't seem to find in any of Book shops, "Harry Potter - Half Blood Prince", wonder if there is any particular reason for this. Buying a book of the net is a bit unpersonal for me, doesn't feel right.

i've read all the books, i have all the books, half of them are hard-bound.

i started reading them when i was pregnant with my son.

he's a huge harry potter fan.
actually, he likes all those dark scary kids movies they like to put out nowadays.

not saying they're actually scary but you have to admit there has been a definate twist towards the more gothic children's movies these days:
harry potter, lemony snicket, charlie and the chocolate factory, pan's labyrinth....

and to think, the labyrinth with david bowie was a box office flop.
