-Showcase taping- Veda Scott def. Maki Nastumi Solo Darling def. KC Spinelli Derek Wylde and Tye Dillinger def. Brad Maddox and Heath Slater The main show opens up with Eric Bischoff in the ring as he asks the fans to welcome home the winning team from last week’s main event. The group comes out to Chris Jericho’s theme. Bischoff shakes the hands of Jericho, Alex Bryce, Damien Sandow, and Sami Zayn before congratulating them on the win. Jericho admits that when you beat the leader of the Bullet Club plus three other guys depending where you are you’re either Mr. Popular or you get a lot of hate mail. Jericho understands the group has a cult following, which a number of guys who have membership in the group he does respect, however he says that Omega brought this situation upon himself, and if he just followed the rules in his one on one match with Bryce none of this would have happened. Bryce gets a chance to weigh in on the matter, seeing as it all started with a singles match he and Omega had. Bischoff mentions up until the point where Omega felt it was a good idea to treat Bryce’s balls like a football he felt the tour Sandow and Bryce were on was going well, however he got back up, didn’t give up, and when it was all said and done it was Omega taking the walk of shame, which brings us to tonight. For the loyalty and hard work shown Bischoff will reward those standing in the ring. Since Bryce and Sandow came back from their tour successfully he tells them he has something in store for them, but asks them to be patient because the timing is not quite right yet. For Sami Zayn’s involvement, Bischoff declares him the #1 contender for the Internet title and will be the next challenger for Tye Dillinger. For Jericho, for being the go to guy and making sure the match ended in their favour, Bischoff awards him a spot in tonight’s main event against Rob Rage, where the winner will face Wade Barrett for the world heavyweight championship at Battle Ground, which he notes to the live crowd the event will have a special afternoon start time as the event will be live from Manchester, England. Rob Rage soon makes his way to the ring, having heard the announcement go down. Rage saw the match last week and will give credit where it is due, Jericho had the shit kicked out of him but refused to lose. However Jericho must realize that the Bullet Club is not on the same level as the Supernova of Superstars, not even close. It’s a well known fact that Rage wants the gold around his waste, and he as one man will do what an entire group could not do, and that’s squash the Y2J bug. When he’s done with Jericho, he’ll do what he does best, destroy and embarrass Barrett in front of his fellow countrymen. Meanwhile Jericho will be too broken to fall back on his singing career, which is terrible anyway. Rage and Jericho then get face to face. Bischoff calls for order and tells them to save it for the main event. Bischoff orders for the ring to clear, except for Sami Zayn, he’s in action next. As the ring clears things shift backstage to Hutch Henries, who is standing by with Kana and Karen Sato. The women’s championship match was brought up. They admit that the idea to use the Ironman title to lure Emma Matthew’s backup away from ringside was sneaky, yet clever. Act managed to escape with the women’s championship, which tonight her next opponent…opponents will be announced. At Battle Ground Act will run the gauntlet. If she manages to defeat all of her opponents she’ll retain, however one loss means she’ll lose the title. Emma Matthews and Charlotte have are confirmed as two opponents in the match. Not announced on the Action Zone, but on the Showcase when it airs, Sato and Kana inform Solo Darling that with the win she has been chosen to be part of the gauntlet match. She’s told this will be an opportunity of a life time and not to waste it. Jay White vs Sami Zayn With the announcement of Zayn being named the new challenger to Tye Dillinger’s Internet title, Zayn shows a little more energy than normal in this one. White found an opening after avoiding a helluva kick and countered with a back suplex before going upstairs. Zayn was quick to recover and joined him up top. White fights him off and knocks Zayn down, but Zayn lands on his feet and goes back up top as well. This time Zayn gets the better of the exchange and connects with his brainbustaaa. Zayn with the pin, White looks like he might be dead after that one, Zayn wins. Zayn leaves victoriously, while Zayn has to be assisted to the back. Fortunately by the time extra officials enter the ring to check on him there is movement from White. Katie Lea’s shown leaving the women’s locker room following the recent bout. She’s in action next, and she looks focused as she continues on her way. Before her match goes down Hutch Henries is shown standing by with the world heavyweight champion Wade Barrett. Barrett’s asked about the upcoming Battle Ground event and how it’ll feel competing on home soil, this time as the champion. Barrett’s no stranger to Manchester, and England as a whole. He brings up an earlier appearance in across the pond in the spring, where at the time he was the Canadian National Champion. Technically speaking when he became the world heavyweight champion he was never officially defeated for that title, but he gave them up out of respect for the sport, as well as the office that was behind him as he was on his golden quest, which as can see was successful. When asked if he as a prediction on tonight’s main event he mentions both Jericho and Rob Rage are worthy opponents and says may the better man win. That leads to the show’s first break of the evening. When the show returns Rusev is shown backstage, preparing for his match later tonight with Steven Richards. Lana’s getting the soviet suplex machine fired up and tells Rusev to make an example out of Richards, which the fired up Rusev ends up putting a hole through a wall. Lana likes what she sees. That match is still to come, but up next is ladies action. Katie Lea vs. Tiana Ringer Katie Lea was more aggressive out of the gate than usual, which Don Callis guesses it’s more than lightly due to the embarrassment she suffered from her loss to Yoshiko in record-like fashion. As the match progresses, James R. Kennedy is shown in the crowd, taking notes of what he’s seeing. Ringer didn’t stand much of a chance as the former IC champion forces her to submit to a stf. After the bell Lea grabbed the mic demands Yoshiko to get out here. Jason Kronan believes Katie Lea has a death wish, which she doesn’t have to wait for long to get what she wants. Lea tells Yoshiko that she was embarrassed by Yoshiko’s actions, however she wants to gives Yoshiko a taste of her own medicine and issues a challenge to a falls count anywhere street fight. Yoshiko looks amused by the challenge tossed her way, however she nods her head in acceptance. Don Callis agrees with his broadcast’s partner in thought of Lea having a death wish, but has a feeling she may have something up her sleeve. As Lea exits the ring after Yoshiko disappears behind the curtain, James R. Kennedy can be seen with a look of interest on his face as Lea passes by. While he doesn’t formally extend an offer to her as he did with Nick Watts recently, it appears the women’s division is on his radar. Eric Bischoff is in his office speaking with The Motor City Machine Guns, as well as Jeremy Dunn and Ross Stevens. They are reminded that tonight’s match between the two sides will be fore the number one contendership for the tag titles and the winning team will face Zack Ryder and a partner of his choosing at Battle Ground. Both sides show respect to the other in the presence of the boss, but it is clear both teams understand what it at stake. Footage from this week’s Showcase airs, showing Rusev’s attack on Steven Richards following Rusev’s bout with Bo Dallas, as well as Richards’ comments from the trainer’s room. Hutch Henries is standing by with Steven Richards live, and the former champion is ready for action. Richards has never been one to back down from a fight, and if Rusev wants to go around and do whatever he wants and not suffer any consequences tonight will be his wake up call. Richards has made a career of proving people who under estimate him wrong, so the self-proclaimed soviet suplex machine better be ready. Rusev w/Lana vs Steven Richrds Richards isn’t one to just lay down and take a beating, though Rusev had no problem in making that happened as the Russian was in control early on. The longer the match went on the more Rusev became frustrated as Richards would not stay down for a three count. Both announcers agree it’s not that easy to keep a former multiple time world champion down, which Callis warns Rusev he should be careful not to lose focus, which as that’s said Rusev rushes Richards in the corner. Richards telegraphs it and Rusev hits the corner. Richards starts letting the fists fly, looking to mount a comeback. Rusev feeds out of the corner, but Richards keeps the offense going. After connecting with a line Rusev is still on his feet but looks like he’s staggering a bit. Richards goes for it again, Rusev’s a bit more wobbly than before. Richards goes off the ropes and connects with a leaping clothesline and that takes Rusev down. Rusev attempts to shake it off and Richard grabs hold of Rusev and connects with his Stevie-T. Richards with the pin, referee Eddington James to two before Rusev kicks out with athourity, which Richards comes close to landing on top of the official, but James is able to avoid the collision. Richards attempts to pick up where he left off but Rusev grabs him and executes an overhead belly to belly suplex. That halts Richards’ momentum. Rusev grabs Richards and moves him towards the middle of the ring by way of a bul-plex. Rusev’s had enough and applies the accolade. He gets it applied with almost no resistances from Richards, and Richards is forced to tap out. Rusev keeps the hold applied after the bell, however he lets go when the official starts to put a count on him. Don Callis mentions this was a must win for Rusev if he plans to content for gold in the upcoming year. As Callis about to expand on that, Jason Kronan’s informed something’s going on backstage. Cameras show Team FIST getting the better of Blayde and Act Yasukawa backstage. Each member of the group is attempting to pin Blayde for the Ironman Championship. Emma Matthews is holding Act back, preventing her from attempting to help. Referee Amy Kanazki is on hand to make the count, but hasn’t been able to make three just yet. Harry Smith and Natalya are passing by and see what is going on and they decided to give Blayde an assist. The guys in Team FIST each get knocked down by Smith before deciding to retreat, while Matthews takes off before Natalya can get in range, not wanting any of the former women’s champion. Smith keeps an eye on Team FIST as they leave the scene. He then turns back to the others as he here’s a referee’s count. Natalya was checking on Blayde, as he got his ass handed to him. However the ref on hand felt their was a pin on Natalya’s part being made, which she instantly denies the intent when the Ironman belt’s handed to her. Smith is told of the referee’s ruling, as well as getting Natalya’s side of the story. Act finds out as well. She isn’t happy with it either, but the title change is official. When the show returning following a short break Team FIST is shown attempting to regroup as their attempt to claim the Ironman title didn’t go as planned, which to be fair the involvement of Harry Smith and Natalya was unexpected. They look to plot their next move when they are approached by Eric Bischoff. He mentions he was informed of what happened moments ago, however he asks them to hold off on whatever they may be planning as there is a chance the title change might not stand. He’ll let them know soon. Before he leaves he asks them if they’ll be watching the tag match between the MCMG and Cornette’s team. They confirm they will and they sound confident as Gran Akuma states it’s only a matter of time before the belts are theirs. Bischoff likes what he hears, though he advises them to let the two teams involved in the #1 contenders match to fight uninterrupted. Icarus mentions they have no intentions of interrupting the match in question. Bischoff excuses himself and lets them resume what they were doing. Brian Knight and Nick Watts vs Harry Smith and Natalya While individually Knight and Watts looked respectable with their efforts, as a team their respective egos made it difficult for them to co-exist. Knight refused a tag when Watts managed to get some distance between him and Smith. Knight was about to leave, however Watts went after him and confronted him. They have a verbal exchange on the floor, which James R. Kennedy tells Watts he doesn’t have to put up with this, which Watts agrees and turns on his partner before tossing him under the bottom rope and back inside. He makes a tag gesture to the referee before heading backstage. Nataly’s tagged in at this point and applies the sharpshooter. Knight doesn’t have much left in the tank and after reaching for the ropes only to get nothing but air he taps. After a short in-ring celebration by Smith and Natalya they make their exit. As they head backstage, Eric Bischoff is shown speaking in the hallway with Kana and Karan Sato. The topic of Natalya becoming the Ironman Champion is discussed. Bischoff is aware of Natalya’s ineligibility to challenge for gold for the remainder of the year. They are aware of Natalya acquiring the Ironman title moments ago, which Bischoff asks Kana’s stance on it. He reminds her that a lot of times there is no formal process as to who is next in line to face the title holder, and its his understanding Natalya did not intend to win the belt, but that the champion at the time’s shoulders just to happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kana and Karen talk it over for a moment before they inform Bischoff that the title change will stand. It’s requested however, if Natalya somehow is still the Ironman Champion come Battle Ground for Kana to pick how Natalya will defend the title at the event. Bischoff feels that’s fair. Karen then turns to Kana’s other side, which the camera shows Beth Phoenix is also present. Karen tells Phoenix to make sure Natalya arrives in England with the Ironman title in her possession. Standing by with Hutch Henries is Chris Jericho, who will face Rob Rage later tonight. Jericho’s latest win came as part of an interpromtional match where he was the mystery partner for Alex Bryce’s team as they defeated the team captained by Kenny Omega. Jericho mentions it’s been a while since he’s wrestled in England, but as we saw it does not matter where Jericho has to go or who he has to face, Jericho’s proven time and time again he is the best in the world at what he does, and Wade Barrett will find that out at Battle Ground. As for tonight he’s up against Rob Rage, who like him is a former world champion. Rage may have the largest arms in the world, he may be the supernova of superstars, but he’s not Chris Jericho, he’s not the best in the world and tonight Jericho will become the number one contender. Derek Wylde and Tye Dillinger are shown talking in the hallway as Nick Watts is about to pass by. Watts stops and asks them if they saw his match and the bum that he was paired with. Before he can get an answer he tells them both that Brian Knight isn’t in his league, and someone of Watt’s stature shouldn’t have to carry some regret from across the pond. Dillinger agrees, though there is some sarcasm on his part as he doesn’t want to bother Watts. Wylde attempts to calm Watts down as Watts looks a little bit heated as he explains he took out a former multiple time Canadian National Champion, yet he’s filling gaps in the card. Maybe he should give James R. Kennedy a call. Watts leaves while Wylde and Dillinger continue their conversation. #1 contendership for the tag team championship Ross Stevens and Jeremy Dunn w/ Jim Cornette vs Motor City Machine Guns Zack Ryder is shown watching this one from backstage. He’ll face the winners for the gold, though he has not officially named a new partner after Wade Barrett vacated his half of the tag titles. Jason Kronan and Don Callis bring up this point on commentary, and Kronan has a feeling Big T will end up teaming with Ryder, feeling that’s the easy choice. Callis does not disagree with that logic, however he knows Ryder is smarter than he looks. Cornette had a couple of opportunities to get in a few shots with the opposition on the outside and with the referee not looking his way for a few seconds, but opted not to go that route. The MCMG connected with their skull and bones on Dunn. Stevens attempted to make the save on the follow up pin, but wasn’t in time to break the count. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley win this one to become the number one contenders. The new number one contenders go into Battle Ground with momentum on their side with a win over former tag team champions, however Ryder does have the element of surprise on his side. Will that be enough as the MCMG look to be in top form. Following the final tv timeout a match for next week’s show is shown. With the ppv taking place in England, nearby Leeds will host the week’s Action Zone event. Already signed for the show women’s tag team action as Kris Wolf and Skyler Raye will take on the team of Natalya and Beth Phoenix. #1 contendership for the world heavyweight championship Rob Rage vs Chris Jericho Wade Barrett makes his way ringside before the competitors hit the ring. He joins the announcers at the table, stating he’s here to scout for his upcoming title defence. The presence of the champion isn’t one to be taken lightly, however Rage takes time during his entrance, as well as a couple of occasions during the match that he’s the man that he claims to be. Barrett gives credit where it is due, but notes one can’t be too cocky, which Jericho uses Rage’s second mid-match gesturing to the champion to turn the tables. It doesn’t take long however for Rage to regain the advantage and he feels it’s time to put Jericho away and sets him up for a spear. Jericho avoids the contact. Rage goes off the ropes and tries to go for it again, however Jericho was quick to react and catches Rage with the codebreaker. Jericho with the cover, Rage can’t kickout in time, Jericho wins. Jericho gets his hand raised by the referee before turning towards Barrett. Barrett looks at Jericho with a grin on his face while giving him a slow clap. Barrett continues to do so as he leaves the table and makes his way towards the ring steps. Barrett enters the ring and gets face to face with his challenger. A small verbal exchange between the two goes down as the show goes off the air. |

- Looking forward to seeing Barrett. Should be a hell of a title defence in front of his home crowd especially with his recent push. - Rusev really needs to start picking up wins if he is to get back in the title mix. His stock has dropped dramatically and I would like to see him at the top of the card again. - Happy that The Guns picked up the win and are on their way to a shot at the gold. Would be even happier if they went on to win the belts. Not sure who Ryder might have up his sleeve. - I like the Harry Smith and Natalya pairing after the unfortunate injury of TJ Wilson. Good way to make the best of a bad situation. |
