-Showcase taping-

Zack Ryder w/Big T def. Johnny Plinko

Damien Sandow and Dean Martin def. Logan Savage and Jeff Black
Before the match Sandow introduced the fans to Dean Martin, a man who he has deemed worthy of being his apprentice. Sandow explains that Martin turned town a recent opportunity to compete for the IWF Championship because he has nothing more to prove in that promotion, however given the vast competition that XCW has to offer, Sandow will take Martin under his wing and mold him into a specimen of perfection.

KC Spinelli def. Kris Wolf

The main show opens up with the women’s roster surrounding the ringside area. Karen Sato’s in the ring and she introduces the women’s champion and Queen of the Ring, Kana. Kana’s joined by Beth Phoenix, in the event anyone at ringside feels like trying anything. Through Sato, Kana confirms the women's survival match is returning, where the winner of the over the top rope battle will face her at Starcade. Since it will take place in the new year Natalya will be eligible to be title contention and with that being said she is the first confirmed entrant in the Survival match. Tonight she'll be in a match to determine her entry position. If she wins she'll enter survival last, if she loses she'll enter first, and her opponent is Beth Phoenix. Since both women are present Sato suggests to Kana to have the match take place right now. Natalya's not dressed to compete at the moment, but Kana likes the idea. Referee Chris Truax comes out, but before he can signal for the bell Eric Bischoff comes out. Bischoff enters the ring and informs Kana that while he prefers to start the show with a match, or if not as soon as possible, two announcements Kana made tonight he has issues with. The women’s Survival match returning he has no issues with as it has become a tradition in XCW to hold the annual battle royal for both the men and women on the roster, that’s kosher. But what isn’t is the fact of Kana making an impromptu match, when one of the participants isn’t prepared to compete, and further more have determine entry positions. Further more, due to Kana’s actions at Season’s Beatings his hand is being forced. The women’s Survival match will take place as scheduled, however it will NOT be for a shot at the championship…it will BE FOR the championship, because effective immediately Kana is stripped of title. Kana and her crew are shocked by the ruling by Bischoff, which Sato tells him he can’t do that, which Bischoff tells her that the person who signs his paycheque says he does, and if she wants to see her next pay she’ll shut up. Bischoff does state however that Natalya will still face Beth Phoenix tonight, however the stipulations will be different. In the interest of fairness, if Phoenix wins, and there is no interference, Kana will qualify for the Survival match. If Phoenix loses, then not only will Kana not qualify for a chance to get the belt back, but Natalya will win the official title of Queen of the Ring. Kana’s not liking this at all. Natalya steps inside the ring and gets Bischoff’s attention. She informs him she’s fine to fight as is. Bischoff asks if she’s sure, which she confirms what she just said. Bischoff orders the ring to be cleared. Bischoff permits Kana and Karen Sato to remain at ringside, however he joins the broadcast team to keep an eye on things. The rest of the roster heads up the runway, but stops on the stage, wanting to see what goes down.

Beth Phoenix vs Natalya
Strength wise the edge clearly goes of Phoenix, though as everyone should know it takes more than that power get the better of someone in the Hart family. Even though Natalya’s more technically sound she isn’t afraid to exchange blows with the stronger Phoenix, and the longer the match goes the more it favours Natalya. Natalya catches Phoenix in the corner with repeated clotheslines, however she goes to the well once too often as Phoenix moves out of the way. Phoenix looks like she wants to put this one to bed and sets up Natalya for a powerbomb. Natalya manages to reverse it with a hurricanrana and follows that up with the sharpshooter. Phoenix holds on for as long as she can, however she can only do so for so long and taps out. Kana and Sato look furious on the outside when the bell sounds. Natalya flashes them both a grin as she leaves the ring after saluting the live crowd. Kana and Sato enter the ring. Kana yells at Phoenix to get up. Phoenix is slow to do so, but when she does she attempts to apologize for the loss, though Kana’s giving her an earful. Phoenix takes the verbal lashing, however Kana takes it one step further and slaps her. That doesn’t appear to be a smart move on Kana’s part as Phoenix looks like she’s had enough. Before she can lay a hand on Kana, Sato clips her from behind. It’s two on one, and she’s receiving a similar post-match beating that the three of them gave to Trish Stratus at Season’s Beatings. Eventually they have enough and leave her laying. It looks like 2017 will be a bad ending for Kana, and she and Sato head backstage, possibly to figure out how regroup and recover from what went down this evening.

Following the commercial break Hutch Henries is shown standing by with the owner of XCW Damien Maxwell. Damien’s asked to comment on what all has happened so far and he states that if Bischoff didn’t act tonight then he would have. Hutch asks if he would have done anything different Damien mentions that he would have. He would instead have a new champion crowned tonight and have the number one contender’s spot be on the line at Survival as normal, however he calls the decision made by Bischoff to have it be for the championship an excellent decision, feeling it will make the women’s Survival match more important this year. As far as the title of Queen of the Ring is concerned, he isn’t sure what he would have done after stripping it from Kana, and as we can see Bischoff’s move of having Beth Phoenix defend it on Kana’s behalf paid off. Speaking of which, the winner of said match is close by and Hutch Henries waves Natalya into the picture. He congratulates her on it the win and asks what this means for her going forward. Natalya states that 2017 can end on a high note in the women’s division. Not just herself, but many others were treated unfairly, and she will right the wrongs that Kana created. Damien weighs in on the matter, also offering his congratulations on the matter. He knows with how things have been for Natalya lately that she will be hungry to get back in the title hunt. With that being said, unlike how Kana was, he believes Natalya will be able to be fair and not favour herself. Eric Bischoff joins the group and he touches on the subject. He too feels that Natalya would be more fair than Kana to run the division without a doubt, and on the short term, going into Survival, that’s one thing, but long term going forward he isn’t sure if one can hold power and be on the roster without feeling the temptation to favour themselves, even if just a little bit. The owner feels that Bischoff brings up a valid point, and with Starcade taking place not long after Survival, decisions will have to be made that are free of bias. Natalya feels there will be no problems going into Survival, however afterwards if Damien and Bischoff want to revisit the matter she has no issues discussing it then. Everyone seems to be in agreement on the matter. Before things shift back to ringside Damien tells Hutch he feels there’s already been too much negativity, and given the time of year that should change. He tells Hutch to take the rest of the night off, noting like last year there is a Christmas party and for Hutch to take things easy tonight.

Rusev w/Lana vs Colin Delaney
After come off a tough loss to former tag partner Rob Rage, Rusev aims to shake off the loss and get back on track. From the looks of who his opponent is that does not seem like a difficult task, and right when the bell sounds Rusev doesn’t give the opposition a chance to even blink. After connecting with a belly to back suplex, Lana encourages Rusev to do it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again one final time. Rusev’s on fire tonight and he puts his opponent out of his misery with the accolade. Referee Chris Truax calls for the bell upon application as the unlucky guy is out. Following the bell Lana takes the mic and declares that 2018 will be year of the soviet suplex machine. In fact Rusev will start off 2018 on a golden note as Lana issues a challenge for Rusev to take on the current Canadian National Champion Brian Kendrick.

The challenge laid out does not go unnoticed as Eric Bischoff is shown having seen what went down in his office after the recent segment ended. There’s a knock on the door and AJ Styles enters. Bischoff has a feeling he knows why AJ is here and asks if it is regarding his match at Season’s Beatings with Kendrick. Bischoff guessed correctly as Styles feels Kendrick getting himself disqualified was not only unfair but cowardly. Bischoff understands Styles’ frustration, however he notes that Rusev just made a claim to the number one contendership to Kendrick’s title. To be fair to both men, on the first Action Zone of 2018 they will face off. AJ Styles against Rusev, with the winner to be the next to face Brian Kendrick. Styles feels that he shouldn’t have to go through Rusev to get what should be rightfully his, however he does not object to it as he wants to prove a point to Kendrick.

Some of the holiday party is shown next, nothing out of the ordinary going on. Ironman Champion Heath Slater is present, as are a number of usual challengers for said belt. There appears to be no hostility towards him on this night however. He isn’t off the hook completely, as he gets an unlikely challenger in Act Yasukawa, and she wants to have a little fun with this and challenges him to a drinking contest. Slater tries to weasel himself out of it, but after enough peer pressure he accepts the challenge.

Alex Bryce vs Matt Hardy
Bryce makes his entrance first, but when his opponent comes out, he does so to an old generic sounding theme…and different attire than he normally would. Don Callis comments that someone should tell Matt Hardy that it’s not 1994 and the neon green on one leg and white on the other isn’t popular anymore. Bryce looks confused by this, as is referee Jimmy Korderas, but there’s no reason as to why the match can’t go on as scheduled. After a few minutes Jeff Hardy makes his way ringside and tries to convince the referee to stop the match. Jeff watches from the outside as the bout continues. Bryce has Hardy in the corner, and as the referee calls for a break grins laughs at Bryce’s offensive attack before telling him to hit him again. Bryce looks confused by this but does so. Hardy tells him to do it again, and he gets what he asks for. This happens a few more times and Don Callis mentions he’s seen guys like Raven love the pain of getting struck in the face, or anywhere for that matter, but this is a whole different level of insanity. Jeff gets on the apron and again asks the official to stop the match. Bryce looks at Jeff, unsure of what to think as Matt’s calling for more. Bryce boots Matt in the mid-section and delivers a tiger driver. Bryce with the cover, Hardy stays down, but he looks like he enjoyed what just happened after the three count is made.

Back at the party, other than the drinking contest going on, things are pretty tame. The members of Team FIST are starting to bet amongst each other on who’ll be the first to drop. Chuck Taylor thinks Slater won’t last much longer. Slater takes offence to that and asks Taylor if he wants some of this. As the next round of shots are poured, Slater takes the bottle of vodka and downs what’s left, before telling Taylor that he beat Taylor can’t do that. Slater’s feeling pretty cocky, but it soon hits him and he drops. The Ironman Championship has changed hands. Act takes the belt and asks the room if anyone’s next, which nobody feels that that’s a good idea.

Kana’s attempting to get over the loss earlier in the night as Karen Sato attempts to calm Kana’s rage. Kana may be out of the title picture right now, however Sato promises Kana to find a way to change that.

Nick Watts and James R. Kennedy vs Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter
As a change of pace, Kennedy and Colter are participants of their respective client’s match. Jim Cornett came out for guest commentary for this one, stating he wants to see Zeb Colter knock James R. Kennedy on his butt, which Colter does not disappoint, which gets a pop from Cornette and many in the crowd after Watts and Swagger spent most of the bout as the legal men. After that happened Colter was telling Kennedy to get his sorry ass up. Kennedy was backing off. Watts ran to the opposing team’s corner and pulled Swagger down, making him strike the edge of the apron. Watts slid in and grabbed Colter from behind and delivered a stiff looking ddt. Kennedy with the pin, Kennedy and Watts win.

Sami Zayn and Derek Wylde have a crossing of paths at the backstage party, in which they discuss their recent match. There is a disagreement on what would have happened if the bell didn’t sound when it did, however they do agree that neither of them liked how the match ended. With that in mind Zayn offers Wylde a rematch in the new year. Wylde accepts and they shake hands before agreeing to see each other then.

Tye Dillinger vs Chris Sabin w/Alex Shelley
What was a back and forth contest was interrupted by Rob Rage before either man could gain any extended advantage. Rage enters the ring to his theme and took out both Sabin and Dillinger, and then Shelley. He sent each over the top rope one after the other before calling for the mic. Rage explains that what we just saw was a small previous of what will go down at Survival. What just happened will happen to 29 other men, and he’ll travel to the main event of Starcade in style because 2018 will be the year of the Supernova of Superstars, and everyone else will be fighting for the title of second best.

Back at the party it looks like Act may get a challenger for the Ironman title after all in Emma Matthews, however Matthews claims she’s not up for it on this night, instead she wants to make piece. At times during the past year Team FIST may have made Act’s life difficult, but she explains it was all in competition and in reality she respects what Act brings to the table. All appears to be good…until Zack Ryder rolls Act from behind and pins her for a three count. Before Ryder can get away Chuck Taylor attempts to make an advance on the new champion. Big T is there to prevent that from happening, though the rest of Team FIST look to take the big man out of the equation. Bo Dallas manages to get to Ryder first and catches him with a backstabber. Dallas with the pin, Dallas wins the title. He looks like he’s about to take off with the belt, but before he can make it to the door Alex Bryce strikes him in the head with one of those chocolate oranges. He covers Dallas to win the belt. Blayde looks like he may get involved in the madness, however Bryce tosses him the chocolate orange before taking off. Blayde catches it and looks content, and when Act asks him about it he states that these aren’t cheap.

Wade Barrett cuts an in-ring promo before the main event match, where he talks about the new year and the upcoming Survival event as a whole. Of course all eyes are going to be on the 30man battle royal, however he too will be defending his championship. He has a proposal for the office for his upcoming title defence. Usually when one competes for the title there is debate on how said person would have fared in the battle royal, so he has an idea to prevent that from happening. He asks Bischoff for his next challenger to be someone outside of the XCW roster. Bischoff appears on the video screen from his office, shortly after the request is made. Bischoff likes Barrett’s idea and agrees to make it happen. Barrett tells Bischoff this gives the GM plenty of time to find him a suitable opponent, noting that there are top notch fighters across the globe, not just in North America, and Barrett wants to prove to anyone in any territory that he superior.

Brad Maddox vs Harry Smith
Despite Smith being the stronger of the two, Maddox manages to hold on and fight on with everything Smith tosses his way. The longer the match goes on it is clear that Maddox is running out of gas. Maddox manages to grab hold of the top rope out of desperation when Smith sets up for the running powerslam. Smith tries to pull Maddox off of the ropes, but as he does so he falls back and into referee Amy Kanazki. Smith checks on her, giving Maddox time to get a quick breather. When Smith turns his attention back to his opponent Maddox strikes with a low blow. Smith goes down to a knee before Maddox helps him go the rest of the way down with a reverse Russian legsweep. Maddox with the pin, the referee recovers in time to make a three count for Maddox. Barrett comments that sometimes one has to take advantage of situations like that when then arise, however he states that if Maddox gets lucky enough to one day face him for the title it won’t make a difference if said situation happens ten times in the same match, but before he can finish Maddox cuts him off. Maddox heard what Barrett said, and he’s taken exception to it. Barrett is willing to apologize and shake Maddox’s hand. Maddox instead snatches the championship belt and holds it up, turning his back to Barrett and tells the people to get use to this sight. When he turns back towards Barrett, the champion has a bull hammer with Maddox’s name on it. It finds its mark and Maddox is down for the count and then some. The live crowd approves of Barrett’s actions and the announce team wishes the fans at home a merry Christmas, which Barrett does the same as well.

- There was no doubt in my mind that Colin Delaney would take the loss however I have no doubts he would have taken the beating like a pro. I have my fingers crossed that Rusev can get back on good form and beat Brian Kendrick for the Canadian National Championship.

- Big win for Alex Bryce over a well-known star such as Matt Hardy. Was surprised he picked up the fall over The Broken One. He seems like a sucker for pain right now though. Who knows what he will pull off next however part of me thinks his brother might get caught in the crossfire eventually.

- Considering Zeb Colter can barely walk, it surprised me that he had such a physical role in this one. I felt that maybe you should have taken the route of Swagger being on the defensive of his mentor stopping him from taking any offence from their opponents. Finish made sense though.

- Would like to see Rob Rage win the Survival Match myself. Can't see him doing so though unfortunately. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on him doing so which usually means the opposite will happen. I still believe The Supernova of Superstars will have a strong showing.

- Interesting to see the fans side with Wade Barrett. I am hoping this doesn't lead to a full program with Brad Maddox with the title at stake though. Just don't see him as a credible threat when you have much stronger opposition floundering in the midcard right now.
