-Showcase taping-
Tye Dillinger def. Chris Sabin w/Alex Shelley
This was a rematch from last week’s Action Zone, where that match was interrupted by Rob Rage. This one was interruption free which saw Dillinger pick up the win. Not shown to the live crowd, but did make the show when it aired saw Dillinger being interviewed in the locker room area by Hutch Henries, and Dillinger puts out a challenge to Sabin and Shelley to put the tag team championship on the line at Survival against him and Derek Wylde.

Dean Martin w/Damien Sandow def. a local competitor

Sami Zayn def. Zack Ryder w/Big T to retain the Internet Championship

The main show opens with The Miz in the ring for MizTV. The Miz wastes no time in getting to the topic at hand, being Eric Bischoff promised him the exclusive story of Wade Barrett’s opponent at Survival to be relieved on his show. There’s some silence for a few moments to build the suspense before “If you smellllllll, what the Rock, is cookin’ is heard over the arena speakers, followed by an updated version of the theme belonging to Barrett’s opponent, The Rock. Barrett did ask Bischoff to look beyond the walls of the XCW locker room for his Survival opponent, and it appears that Bischoff’s search yielded perhaps the biggest free agent in the game. The Miz is surprised by this, yet not long into the interview he tries to put his ego above the Rock’s, but the Rock quickly shuts him up by asking who in thee blue hell he is, before cutting Miz off with the it doesn’t matter what your name is bit. The Rock puts over Barrett’s accomplishments, calling his winning and holding of every championship at the same time an impressive feat, but The Rock has an impressive resume as well. As he runs down his accomplishments he is cut off as Brad Maddox decides to make an appearance. Maddox steps inside the ring and states that everybody knows what the Rock has done in wrestling and in Hollywood, putting over that Rock’s performance in the Tooth Fairy was an underrated performance. Maddox is about to go into what happened last week when Rock asks Maddox who he is. Maddox responds “Whoa there Rocky, I’m not falling for that one,” which The Rock smiles before somewhat sarcastically, with a humourful tone, that only The Rock can, state he knows who Brad Maddox is, mentioning what few titles he’s one, and that he also officiates when needed, he’s not really good at it but is useful to have around. Maddox rolls his eyes at that jab before stating since Rocky is an outsider he needs to wait his turn, because Maddox has issues with the champion for what he did to him two weeks ago. He reminds use that Bischoff last week promised him Wade Barrett, however he feels he’s in better standing to earn a title shot than the Rock is, to prove a point he wants one tonight. This draws out Eric Bischoff. Bischoff comments that Maddox has guts for interrupting The Rock like that. He understands Maddox’s grievance and confirms the match with Barrett will still go down. Bischoff feels Maddox might be stretching it a bit when it comes to feeling that he is worthy of a championship match, however Bischoff is in a good mood right now and will grant the request and Maddox’s match with Wade Barrett is now for the world heavyweight championship. Whoever walks out of that match with the belt will advance to Survival and defend against The Rock. But that’s not all, states the boss. In addition to that The Miz will be in action tonight. He will go one on one with…The Rock.

Earlier in the day Yoshiko was being examined by the medical trainer. She hasn’t been in action since Kana blinded her last month. Natalya’s present and it’s decided that Yoshiko’s vision has recovered, but not enough for her to be cleared to compete in a match of such importance safely. Yoshiko doesn’t like the news, even more so she doesn’t want to give up the title. Natalya tries to tell her that she doesn’t want to take it from her, but there’s no other option. Before it appears that Yoshiko will hand the belt over willingly, Kris Wolf stops Yoshiko from doing that. She asks Natalya to allow her to fight in Yoshiko’s place and defend the title for her. Yoshiko is surprised by the gesture, but is fine with that. Natalya gives it a quick thought and allows the substitution.

Back to live action and both wrestlers make their respective entrances. Before the bell can sound Emma Matthews makes her way ringside. She has a mic in hand and weighs in on the match that is about to go down. She feels that this match should not take place. Chuck Taylor is with her and he agrees with her claim. Matthews states that Wolf isn’t worthy of being within 100 feet of that title, and everybody knows if Yoshiko was fit to compete that she would have wiped the floor with Spinelli. Spinelli takes exception to this and invites Matthews to back up her mouth. Matthews states that she intends to just that and demands this match become a triple threat. She’s in the ring now and both Spinelli and Wolf look at each other before nodding in agreement…then knocking down Matthews. The bell sounds and we’re underway.

Intercontinental Championship
KC Spinelli vs Emma Matthews w/Chuck Taylor vs Kris Wolf

With the Ironman Champion being present ringside, outsiders decided to make their presence known as well, in the form of Heath Slater and Bo Dallas, to give Taylor a run for his money, er, belt, a few minutes into the match. Taylor entered the ring to attempt to get away, which caught the attention of referee Jimmy Korderas, who tried to keep them close to the ropes, allowing Taylor to escape. While that was going on Wolf had a pin on Spinelli. Wolf broke her pin and went to get the referee’s attention, but got low blowed by Matthews. With Wolf down, Matthews grabbed hold of Spinelli and planted her with an awful waffle. Matthews pins Spinnelli and captures the title. After Matthews gets the belt in her possession a shot of Yoshiko is shown, having seen the match backstage. She does not look pleased with what she saw and punches a hole in a nearby wall.

As far as Chuck Taylor goes, Zack Ryder and Big T were waiting for him when he returned backstage, though Akuma and Icarus were there to back him up. There were a few backstage officials nearby, who attempted to break things up. Once things settled Ryder stated that Taylor shouldn’t hide behind his buddies, which Taylor says he isn’t hiding, he’s being strategic. It looks like Ryder and Big T might start things back up again, until Steven Richards pitches an idea. He suggest Ryder and Big face Akuma and Icarus next week, and if Ryder’s team wins then Akuma and Icarus will step aside and leave Taylor to defend the Ironman Championship himself for the rest of the night. Both teams agree to it, though Taylor doesn’t like the sound of it.

Following the first commercial break of the evening a crossing of paths that took place during the commercial break is shown. Alex Bryce was leaving the locker room area when The Rock showed up, following his in-ring bit appearance on MizTV. Both men introduce themselves and shake each other’s hand before mentioning who they have later tonight. It’s revealed that Bryce will be taking on Harry Smith. The Rock’s never faced him, however Rocky’s well aware of what the son of the British Bulldog can do. Rock wishes Bryce good luck in the match, which Bryce does the same as Rock’s taking on the Miz later on, which Bryce mentions that he has a feeling The Rock doesn’t need luck on his side tonight anyway.

Before things returning to the ring, Hutch Henries is standing by with AJ Styles. Styles is given another chance to face Brian Kendrick for the Canadian National Championship, but he must beat Rusev first. Styles understands what is at stake here. He knows that this isn’t just a must win for himself, but for Rusev as well. For the majority of Rusev’s career he was unstoppable, and even though he’s had some losses to his name lately Styles knows that Rusev can easily go back to his ways of what brought him to the dance. That’s fine with him though. AJ’s used to facing the bigger, the stronger, those that don’t see him as much of his threat. He’s prepared to do whatever it takes to get the job done tonight.

Alex Bryce vs Harry Smith
Smith is looking for, what Don Callis refers to being a must needed win, having a bit of a losing streak forming. In his recent outings Bryce picked up a win over Matt Hardy, though it wasn’t without confusion giving Hardy’s state of mind. He also fought Tye Dillinger to a no contest due to the extra weight that came with being the Ironman Champion at the time. The Survival match is mentioned during this one, with Smith being a previous winner, and how both men, and the entire roster, will be looking for as many momentum building performances as they can between now and then. Neither man showed signs of holding back, and while Bryce looked decent and got his fair share of offence in, the vast experience under Smith’s belt was clearly visible and made the difference. Bryce attempted a late comeback, but was caught when he came off the ropes and was finished off with the running powerslam.

Chris Jericho is shown walking the hallway backstage when he passes by Jeff Hardy. Hardy stops Jericho and asks him if he’s seen the card for tonight. Jericho did and asks if it’s true that Matt Hardy is in a hardcore gauntlet match. Hardy says he didn’t believe it when he sees it, and wonders what Matt is trying to prove. Jericho understands the concern, which he too doesn’t like the sound of it, but Jericho has the feeling with what has gone on the past few weeks maybe Jeff should stay back and let it happen, maybe it might wake Matt up and bring him back to reality. In a concerned tone Jeff adds “Or worse.” Unfortunatnly Jericho adds there’s nothing he can do about it, but does wish both Hardys good luck with it.

Brad Rose enters The Rock’s locker room, looking to get pre-match comments from The Rock, before he takes on the Miz tonight. The Rock gives Rose ‘the coachman treatment,’ not having been interviewed by him before Rocky gives him every bit in the book before going to the topic at hand. The Rock does acknowledge the Miz’s successes both in the ring and on big screen, however there’s a difference between in having minor roles in B-movies and being in a tag team that and being carried in said team by Brad Maddox to being an A-lister whose name is on the marquee and being one of greatest world champions this sport has ever seen. If the Miz considers himself famous in his own little world The Rock has a treat for the Miz, he will make the Miz famous and everyone will remember the where he went one on one and lost to the great one. Rock then weighs in on tonight’s championship match between Brad Maddox and Wade Barrett by stating if this was any other place Barrett would need less than 90 seconds to put Maddox away, but this is XCW, and stranger things have happened. Regardless of the outcome he will dethrone whoever comes out of this one with the belt at Survival, if you smell what the rock is cookin’.

#1 contendership for the Canadian National Championship
Rusev w/Lana vs AJ Styles

Brian Kendrick watched the match from the commentary position until Styles was in the process of making a hot comeback. Kendrick got on the apron and attempted to put an end to Styles’ offence, but got knocked down before he could step through the ropes. The slight diverting of attention gave Rusev a small opening, but he took full advantage of it and connected with a german suplex. Rusev got all of it and applied the accolade to Styles. Styles attempted to fight out of it after being in it for a solid minute, however Rusev was able to maintain control and forced Styles to eventually tap out. Don Callis knows that Kendrick wants to avoid facing Styles again, however he wonders if Rusev will end up being more of a threat, and it ends up being something Kendrick overlooked.

Having lost the Intercontinental Championship earlier in the night in a match she wasn’t even in, Yoshiko looks to be in thought of what she might do next. Kris Wolf approaches and apologizes for what happened in the ring. She tries not to use Emma Matthew’s actions as an excuse, but mentions what went down should not have happened. Yoshiko looks at her, and there’s silence in the area…a little too much as it looks like Yoshiko might go off. She stands up and moves closer to Wolf. Wolf covers her face as Yoshiko brings an arm up, but unexpectedly pats Wolf on the shoulder. Yoshiko leaves the room without saying a word.

Brad Maddox is shown backstage preparing for his championship match against Wade Barrett when he gets an unexpected visit from The Miz. Miz appears not to have hostile intentions, though Maddox looks cautious anyway. Miz tells Maddox he's here to simply wish him good luck tonight. Miz goes on to explain that tonight is a big night for both of them. Maddox has a shot at the heavyweight title, while Miz is moments away from the biggest role of his career, and if things go both their ways then tonight will be the start of something even bigger. Miz brings up Starcade. Last year things didn't go so well for them. This year however will make up for that. All Maddox has to do is beat Wade Barrett for the title, and all Miz has to do is win the Survival match, and he can think of no better way to prepare to headlining Starcade's main event by taking on The Rock tonight. Maddox likes Miz's way of thinking...as does Chris Jericho, who happened to overhear the conversation. Jericho approaches them and tells them that would be something, a main event nobody saw coming. Jericho states that he's seen a number of guys in XCW history that have been to the top of the mountain that would get overlooked in other companies, and a Miz vs Maddox main event would be something unique. Jericho however, has another thought about a possible Starcade main event. What if the main event ends up being The Miz vs....Heath Slater?...What about Heath Slater vs Bo Dallas and Brad Maddox in a triple threat. Maddox says he'd buy that and the replay. Miz rolls his eyes at the thought. Jericho continues with another what if...what if the main event of Starcade featured Chris Jericho and The Rock? Maddox says that would also be watchable, which the Miz tells Jericho to keep dreaming before leaving the area.

Hardcore Gauntlet
Matt Hardy hits the ring solo and waits for his first opponent. His first opponent ends up being a local area wrestler, which doesn’t give Matt much of a challenge and disposed of quickly. After the bell he calls for the mic and tells whoever his second opponent may be to bring him a ‘steeefer challenge.’ It looks like he might get what he wishes as ring and mma veterman Steve Blackman ends up being opponent number two. Blackman hits the ring after doing his trademark quick display with his woodsticks that he use to do back in the day, which his form still looks good. He uses them on Hardy, which has almost no effect. Hardy becomes a human punching bag as he takes a barrage of kick and punch strikes. He goes down and Blackman with the cover, two count only. Hardy appears to be enjoying the beating he just took, and Blackman is in disbelief. Blackman picks up Hardy and sends him to the corner, giving him corner shots until the referee steps in, calling for a break. Hardy goes down to his knees and favours his ribs as Blackman goes upstairs. Blackman comes off the top, looking to connect with a leaping bicycle kick. Hardy manages to avoid the kick, Blackman’s unable to land clean and Hardy capitalizes by connecting with the twist of fate. Hardy pins Blackman, and as soon as the three count is made opponent number three comes out, which is another outsider, but like Blackman is a welcomed one, in Rob Van Dam. Hardy takes it to the outside before RVD can make it to the ropes. They battle on the outside until RVD attempts to whip Hardy into the ring steps, but that gets reversed. RVD reverses the reversal and Hardy runs into and over the ringsteps. RVD gets up on the apron and does his thumbs to shoulders gesture, which the crowed chants along before RVD takes off and takes Hardy down with a spin kick after Hardy found his footing. Hardy gets sent back inside the ring, but before RVD joins him he searches under the ring and pulls out a table. He also finds a chair and tosses that in as well. RVD sets up the table near one of the corner before going back to Hardy. A scoop and a slam before Van Dam goes off the ropes and connects with the rolling thunder. Instead of going for the pin RVD points towards the table. The crowd wants to see someone go through it, but he tells the crowd to hold on a minute, he has an idea. He sends Hardy to one of the corners that doesn’t have the table in, which Hardy takes the corner. RVD joins him before delivering the ten counter punches, which Hardy falls on his butt. RVD grabs the chair and places it near Hardy’s face before hurrying to a different corner. He goes upstairs and the crowd has a feeling of what is about to happen. Don Callis doesn’t like where this is going as RVD takes off and connects with the van teriminator. Hardy appears to be done as the crowd pops for what RVD just did as mix of ‘holy shit’ and ‘you still got it’ fill the arena. RVD takes it before telling the crowd now they’ll get the table, as he drags Hardy towards it. Hardy’s placed on the table, and RVD goes upstairs. Before he can take off, Jeff Hardy rushes out. He has a towel in hand and tosses it in the ring, trying to save his brother from a possible 5 Star Frog Splash through the table. Referee Amy Kanazki calls for the bell and announces Van Dam as the winner. Jeff enters the ring, but before he can pull Matt off the table, Eric Bischoff appears on the video screen. Bischoff understands Jeff Hardy’s concern, but states that Jeff was not a legal cornerman when the match began, so he will not permit his stoppage request to stand and orders the match to continue and calls for the bell. The official convinces Jeff to leave the ring. After Jeff steps through the ropes RVD resets and takes off. His former looks excellent, however Matt manages to roll off the table and RVD puts himself through the table. Matt’s quick to take advantage of the situation and locks on the ice pick. Matt keeps the hold applied until the referee calls for the bell. Matt releases the hold and RVD appears to be out. Matt calls for a mic and when he gets it he states that karate Blackman and meeester rvd put forth a noble effort, however as Van Dam experienced, it wasn’t enough to save them from total annihilation. Even though RVD is out, Matt thanks him for giving him exactly what he wanted, and for that Matt will reward him with complete and total…DELETION. Hardy then grabs hold of RVD and reapplies the Ice Pick. Jeff attempts to pull Matt off of Van Dam. The official joins Jeff in the effort, but soon gives up trying and starts a five count. Matt breaks at four, avoiding in the decision being reversed. Matt leaves the ring and Jeff checks on RVD.

Following the madness, Hutch Henries is shown standing by backstage with Chris Jericho. Jericho confirms his involvement in the Survival match and that he is looking forward to the opportunity to get back in the hunt for the world heavyweight championship. He then weighs in on tonight’s championship match, as well as The Rock’s return and him being named the number one contender. He feels that Barrett will retain, but wonders how Maddox with fare. Before he can get to The Rock there appears to be trouble with the feed as the video and audio show signs of static. When the image becomes clear both Jericho and Hutch can no longer be seen. Instead is a shot of Kenny Omega. Omega brings up their last match together, congratulating Jericho on the win before asking him if he’s happy with what he did. Omega mentions he keeps going over and over what happened in his head and has lost a lot of sleep over it. He wonders what he could have done differently, and different scenarios come crossing his mind. So Jericho’s announcing his plans on entering the Survival match in hopes of main evening Starcade. He has news for Y2J, for in his hand is a ticket, a plane ticket to be precise. A plane ticket to the sight of Survival. He vows, whether they let him in the building or not, he will be at Survival, and he will make sure Jericho never…..eeeeeeever, main event Starcade, again. The show fades to commercial shortly after Omega’s proclamation.

When the show returns Brad Maddox makes his way to the ring. He’s about to take on Wade Barrett in what is the biggest match of his career.

World Heavyweight Championship
Brad Maddox vs Wade Barrett

Maddox looks focused on the task at hand, and for the opening minute it looks like Maddox can indeed stand up and hang with the champion as he’s not only still standing, but managed to take Barrett down. As confident as Maddox is he soon finds out why Barrett is the only guy in XCW history to hold every major championship simultaneously and doesn’t get a chance to get in any more offence, making the rest of the bout all Barrett, until the champ puts Maddox away with the bull hammer to secure the pinfall victory. After the match Barrett opts to joins the broadcast team for the main event.

Before said main event can begin Rob Rage enters the office of Eric Bischoff. Rage asks Bischoff if he saw Kenny Omega’s message to Chris Jericho moments ago. Bischoff did, and he’s looking into how Omega tapped into the show’s feed. Rage asks Bischoff if he’s going to allow Omega to enter the arena, and more importantly the Survival match. Bischoff informs Rage that Omega isn’t under contract so legally Omega isn’t permitted in the building. Bischoff informs Rage that if there is concern of Omega invading and interrupting the Survival match, Bischoff promises Rage there will be extra security to make sure that doesn’t happen. Rage can respect Bischoff wanting to take precaution, however he requests Bischoff not only to not do that, but to allow Omega to walk in and give him the red carpet treatment. If Omega has a beef with Jericho that’s fine with him, however if Omega gets in his way he will not only the floor with the so-called “Cleaner,” but unlike Jericho who failed to do so, he will confine Kenny Omega to a wheelchair. Better yet, he wants a one on one match with Omega, just to prove a point. Bischoff attempts to choose his words carefully, which surprisingly Rage allows him time to do so. Bischoff tells Rage that he understands what Rage is saying, noting that Rage is indeed the Supernova of Superstars, and that it makes sense for him to show is dominance over not just 29 others in the Survival match, but also an outsider like Kenny Omega as well. However it is Bischoff’s job to make sure the other 29 wrestlers in the match get a fair shot as well. From what it appears it looks like that Omega is only interested in Jericho, but with Rage showing interest in Omega as well Bischoff has an idea. Bischoff will extend an invitation to Omega for next week’s show. If Omega accepts the invitation then Omega will be in action, and if he wins he will qualify for the Survival match. And if he is still in the ring when Rage enters at #30, then anything the Supernova of Superstars does to him will be nice and legal. Rage seems content with what Bischoff said and leaves the office. A short commercial break follows, and when the show returns it does so in an awesome way as The Miz makes his way to the ring.

The Miz vs The Rock
After The Rock hits the ring and the two come face to face in the middle of the ring the bell sounds. Miz is all talk and you can feel the confidence in his voice, which Don Callis feels we are about to witness what many will call the biggest upset in the history of wrestling. The Rock lets Miz say his piece before responding with a boot to the mid-section before setting up for and connecting with the rock bottom. Rocky got all of it and he stands above Miz before taking off one of his elbow pads. The Rock goes off the ropes and connects with the people’s elbow. Rock with the cover, Don Callis yelling no repeatedly during referee Eddington James’ count, Rocky wins. Barrett is impressed with how quickly The Rock took care of business tonight, but Barrett assures those who can hear him that that will not happen come Survival. Barrett leaves the commentary position and enters the ring. It’s a faceoff between the two men. Barrett holds up the championship belt, The Rock does the waist gesture and both men keep their eyes on the other the entire time to close the show.

- Glad to see Harry Smith back to winning ways. I rated the way you built him up as champion a while back and would hate to see him get lost in the shuffle.

- I am a fan of both Styles and Rusev so I was conflicted. AJ is the best worker in the world right now though. Really think he should be in the main event mix.

- The Hardcore Gauntlet was interesting. I look forward to seeing where you go with the whole Matt Hardy storyline. It's all about the execution with the Broken gimmick.

- I was hoping for Barrett to beat Maddox swiftly. I just couldn't see Maddox as a real legit threat. The Rock sure is a legit threat though and is a great addition to the main event scene.
