-Showcase taping- The Showcase taping kicks off with an episode of the Highlight Reel, and Jericho’s guests are the tag team champions, the Motor City Machine Guns. Last week Tye Dillinger put out a challenge to the champs on behalf of him and Derek Wylde. The champions request Wylde and Dillinger to join them in the ring, wanting to address the matter face to face. The wait is short as Wylde and Dillinger are quick to join them. They heard the challenge issued by Dillinger and they inform the two if it is a shot at the tag titles at Survival they want, then it is a shot at the tag titles at Survival they will get. Katie Lea def. Emma Matthews to win the Intercontinental Championship Last week Matthews got lucky as she managed to weasel her way into the title match which saw Kris Wolf defending for the injured Yoshiko. Katie Lea saw this as the perfect opportunity to call for another shot at the belt, having kept quiet since her last loss to the former champion. Luck wasn’t on Matthews side and the former champion managed to regain the gold in this one. Not shown to the live crowd, but aired when the show aired, Natalya gets an update from the medical trainer on Yoshiko’s condition. Yoshiko’s vision has improved since last week, and at this rate there is a good chance she will be cleared to compete at Survival. Katie Lea was informed of this before the show went off the air, and she looked concerned. Bo Dallas def. Jack Swagger in a Survival Challenge Match It was a singles match that was under rules of the traditional Survival match, win by tossing your opponent over the top rope with both feet touching the floor. Nick Watts and James R. Kennedy made their way ringside during the match and at one point saved Dallas from elimination, catching him after being knocked over the top rope and carrying him towards the ringsteps before backing away. Swagger called out Watts, wanting him inside the ring. Kennedy attempted to grab Swagger by the arm and pull him out, but with the distraction Dallas managed catch Swagger from behind with a dropkick, causing Swagger to fall over and out. Swagger hits the floor and Kennedy and Watts lay the boots in as Dallas gets his arm raised by the referee before taking a victory lap. The broadcast teams mentions that if this happens at Starcade that means Bo Dallas would main event Starcade, however at Survival it’ll be 30 men in the ring and not 2. Brian Kendrick def. Sami Zayn Neither man’s championship was on the line in this one. Despite his aggressiveness as of late, Kendrick fought a clean fight for the most part, and won by submission with captain’s hook. Zack Ryder and Big T vs Team FIST (Akuma and Icarus) w/Chuk Taylor An interesting stipulation is in effect here which involves the current Ironman Champion Chuck Taylor in where if Ryder’s team wins then the other members of Team FIST won’t get in Ryder’s way if he wishes to attempt to win the belt from Taylor. As the match progress the pre-match stipulation lost meaning as Alex Bryce nails Taylor from behind, striking the edge of the ring apron before rolling him up. Referee Justin Kronan counts the pin and Bryce wins the Ironman title. Ryder is shocked by this, and with his attention turned away from his opponent, Icarus strikes with an inverted ddt and follows it up with a Chikara Special. Ryder’s forced to tapout. Kana w/Karen Sato vs Rio Nazki When the show returned from commercial Rio was in the ring, having made her entrance during the break. In the early stages of the match Don Callis puts over that Rio’s has a winning streak going, having competed mostly at non-televised live events. As hot as she’s been lately it doesn’t seem to help her as Kana is looking to shake off her bad luck as of late. Karen gets her licks in as well when Kana turns referee Chris Truax’s attention away. After forcing Rio to tap to the Kanalock for the win, Kana breaks the hold and launches Rio over the top rope and to the outside, causing her to have a rough landing. Later on in the evening Karen confronts Natalya and reminds her at with the women having a Survival match as well it should feature only the top names, and to have Kana not eligible to compete in the match is not only unfair to Kana, but is unfair to the match itself. She asks Natalya to give her a match to give Kana a chance to enter the battle royal. Natalya gives it some thought and not only gives Karen a match, but states she doesn’t have to win. All Karen has to do is last five minutes, if she does so then Kana is in. When asked who her opponent will be Natalya states it’s more fun if Karen finds that out the day of. Survival Qualifier Kenny Omega vs Phil Atlas Confirmed earlier in the week in a self-posted promo online, Omega accepted the invitation from Eric Bischoff, and agrees to play under Bischoff’s rules if it means getting his hands on Chris Jericho. One of those being that Omega must win a qualifying match to enter the 30 man over the top rope battle royal. Another man is getting the same shot he is in Phil Atlas. Atlas is no stranger to XCW as Don Callis mentions his accomplishments last time he was under contract here, and win over Omega would surely earn him a new deal. With what is at stake both men look to play role of show stealer, however in the end only one can advance to the Survival match, and that man is Kenny Omega, who put the finishing touches on this one with the one winged angel before pinning Atlas for the one two thing. Before leaving, Omega gets close to a ringside camera and has one final message for Jericho tonight. He grabs Atlas and tosses him over the top rope, saying “So long, Jericho” as Atlas gets tossed. Nick Watts w/James R. Kennedy vs Heath Slater Jack Swagger makes his presence felt in this one, appearing ringside during the bout and getting close to Kennedy. Watts sees this and tells Swagger to back away. Swagger claims he’s not doing anything, which technically he hasn’t done anything yet. Kennedy has issues with this, which referee Jimmy Korderas takes a look at the situation as well. Watt has his guard dropped as he deals with Swagger being close to his manager. Swagger eventually agrees to back away. When Swagger gets an acceptable distance away from Kennedy, Watts turns his attention back to the match, however when he does so Slater’s back on his feet kicks Watts in the midsection and follows up with a chartbuster. Slater quickly covers Watts, Slater wins. Swagger looks on approvingly of the result, while Kennedy is not too pleased with what just happened, blaming Swagger for this. Charlotte vs Act Yasukawa In the late stages of the main event bout some footage from backstage is shown as Zack Ryder attempts to capture the Ironman title, and Chuck Taylor is doing the same. Big T keeps Taylor’s allies at bay. Alex Bryce attempts to get away, but is struck by one of Heath Slater’s bags. Slater pins Bryce to win the title. Slater picks up his stuff and the belt and makes a mad dash for the exit before the others can realize what just happened. As far as the match in progress goes Charlotte followed up a superplex with a figure four leglock. Act didn’t tap out, but Charlotte did a good job in wearing Act down as the match progressed that Act ended up being pinned from the hold. Don Callis comments a win such as this should give Charlotte some momentum with the date for Survival coming closer. Edited by Maxy, Jan 28 2018, 09:41 PM.

- The opener seemed a little hectic. Maybe too many stipulations involved. - Liked seeing Heath Slater pick up the win. Would like to see Swagger gets some upwards momentum soon. - I dig Charlotte. Think she is one of the finest female wrestlers in the world. Hope she can win at Survival. |
