Jason Kronan and Hutch Henries welcome the viewers at home to the pre-show as Survival is moments away from beginning. Of course the theme of the day is Survival as both the men and women will fight for supremacy, with the winner of the men’s match to face the world heavyweight champion at Starcade, regardless of who it is. While the winner of the women’s match will be crowned the new women’s champion. Going into tonight’s even the Ironman Champion has good news, and that is due to the importance of Survival, as of midnight this morning sanctuary rules are in effect, which means the Ironman Championship cannot change hands under the 24/7 rule. In addition to hearing from various competitors in the match, as well as seeing the arrival of those in the tag and world title matches, two matches went down towards the end of the pre-show. In what some what call an upset, Solo Darling defeated Kris Wolf by reversing positioning on an intended belly to back suplex and shoving the opposition to the corner and connecting with her TailSpin fisherman’s neckbreaker. In the second match, which closes out the pre-show, Zack Ryder defended the Ironman Championship against Heath Slater. Due to the decision announced by Bischoff earlier in the morning the match is interruption free, even from Big T, who was on the outside. Ryder appeared to be in the driver seat and looked to finish off Slater with the rough rider, however Slater saw it coming and telegraphed the move before pulling Ryder in and quickly executing his Smash Hit. Slater pinned Ryder to capture the Ironman Championship. Following the match Don Callis entered the ring to get comments from Slater. Slater states that he is proud to be the Ironman Champion, always has been, always will be. However tonight he has the opportunity to become the number one contender for the world heavyweight championship, and main event on the big stage known as Starcade. He will not let this opportunity go to waste, and tonight 29 others will find out how big of a hit the one man band truly is baby. The main show opens up with a video package that highlights previous winners of the Survival match, and what awaits them when they get their shot at Starcade. Both the men and women will get their chance to survive the competition and become the number one contender for the top championship in the sport. A few of the confirmed entrants this year are shown to give some last minute hype before the show begins. Jim Ross and Don Callis are ringside to start things off. They run down card before sending things up the ring announcer, and the first Survival match of the evening. Survival Women’s Championship Instead of the winner becoming the #1 contender for the women’s championship, the winner will BE the women’s champion. This year’s battle royal will feature 20 competitors, up 5 from last year’s 15. Entering first is the current Intercontinental Champion Katie Lea, she will be joined by Toni Storm to kick things off. Charlotte joins them 90 seconds after the opening bell. Storm’s the first to land on the outside just before the countdown from ten begins, but she’s not eliminates as she fell through the ropes from the double team beating from Katie and Charlotte. She re-enters before Megan Pearce can, who’s in the #4 position. All four are holding their own decently as Iria Ueto enters 5th. Pearce and Ueto target each other upon Ueto’s entry. For those that weren’t in attendance at the IWF’s Boxing Day event they clashed against each other for the XCW Women’s Tag titles, which is usually defended at IWF events or internationally if a team goes overseas when foreign talent comes to North America. Both of them have been on the main roster before, but with the women’s roster sacked enough as it is getting the TV time on the main shows is easier said than done. Yuki Teioh makes her return to the company 90 seconds after Ueto. Her last appearance was a while ago, but she’s been active elsewhere and she doesn’t show signs of rust. Her on/off tag partner Kei is the next to enter at #7. Don Callis mentions she’s coming off a tour of Mexico. She aids former partner Teioh, saving her from being eliminated from Ueto, and in turn they eliminate Ueto. Skyler Raye comes out at #8. Charlotte knocks her down before she can step through the ropes. Skyler gets back up and tries to enter again, but again gets knocked down. She hasn’t officially entered and Charlotte looks like she isn’t going to let her. Skyler thinks about it and looks under the ring. Charlotte checks her back for a moment and when Skyler returns she finds a piece of wood with a nail in it. Charlotte dares her to use it. Skyler looks like she will do just that, but instead slide it between Charlotte’s legs. Charlotte finds that amusing, until she takes the nail to the spine as Kei made good use of the unintended gift. Charlotte screams and falls out of the ring and too the outside, with the board nailed to her back. Coming out at #9 is Emma Matthews. She takes a moment to laugh at Charlotte’s misfortune, getting a ‘fuck you’ in response. So far only one official elimination, that being Iria Ueto. One of the officials checks on Charlotte, who then calls for someone from the back to help her out. Storm eliminates Pearce just before the buzzer sounds for the #10 entrant to come out, which ends up being Kana. Karen Sato follows her, but is on the slow side, still recovering from Viper flattening her last weekend. Kana targets Skyler Raye upon entry. Katie Lea unexpectedly backs up the former ruler of the women’s division. Teioh and Kei decide to aid Skyler. Matthews and Storm feel it’s best not to get involved. Oedo Tai member Serena Moon is the next one to enter, doing so at #11. Charlotte’s being attended to on the outside and a defining scream can be heard as the board and nail got removed from her back. When Veda Scott heads towards the ring at #12, Charlotte shoves her out of the way and storms back to the ring. She not only looks under the ring but goes completely under. When she emerges she has a kendo stick in hand. Scott got back to her feet and entered the ring while Charlotte was under the ring. Charlotte slides back inside and immediately targets Kei with the stick, striking her in the back of the head. She jabs Skyler with it before attacking both ladies with it like a madman. Kana was close by, but slithers away towards one of the corners. She grabs Kei and dumps her over the top rope. Katie and Storm double team Charlotte from behind, feeling she is a threat. As that happens Kana attempts to kill steal and eliminate Skyler, but Moon makes the save. Unfortunately for her, Kana manages to eliminate her from match instead. KC Spinelli comes out at in the #13 position. She’s in the ring for 5-6 seconds before being eliminated by Katie Lea. Skyler’s not having a good day at the office as Charlotte goes back to targeting her, sliding out of the ring under the bottom up and pulling her legs against the ring post and applies a figure four around it. It’s all legal in this type of match. Charlotte shows no signs of breaking the hold, though she’s forced to break it as Kei tags her in the chest with the Kendo stick at Charlotte used on her earlier on. Kei strikes Charlotte until the hold’s broken. Referee’s are on her quickly and she backs up, having done what she set out to do. IWF talent Kim Dawson has a huge opportunity in front of her as she enters the ring in the #14 position. Last time she was featured at an XCW event she answered a challenge from Yoshiko to a MMA rules match, and while she wasn’t successful her efforts earned her an IWF contract, where she’s been since, making the transition from MMA to wrestling, and has done quite well. Storm looks to make Dawson’s time in the ring short, but Daweson catches her and executes an overheard belly to belly suplex. Storm falls to the outside and Dawson turns her attention to Katie Lea, but Emma Matthews and Kana jump Dawson from behind. Katie joins in making it three on one. They gang up on her until she goes up and over the top and out. Katie grabs Kana from behind so she and Matthews can take Kana out of the equation. Matthews rushes in, Kana breaks free and Matthews knocks Katie over the top rope and to the outside. Matthews can’t believe what just happened, and she soon joins Katie on the outside as Kana sends her out. Kana grins at the misfortune of the two that just got eliminated, as is Karen Sato, who mocks them. When the #15 entrant comes out both Kana and Karen are not smiling as Yoshiko’s heads towards the ring, marching with a purpose. Karen moves as far away from the runway as she can, seeking refuge behind the announcers’ table. Charlotte and Skyler have re-entered the ring before Yoshiko steps through the ropes, but they aren’t in her direct line of sight. Kana knows she’s the one that Kana wants. Veda Scott and Yuki Teioh make sure Kana can’t think of escaping, and when Yoshiko steps in the ring they’re each holding onto an arm. Yoshiko grins and she has a first with Kana’s name on it, and Kana can do nothing but take it. Yoshiko gestures at the two to hold onto Kana until she says so. Yoshiko’s using Kana’s face as a punching bag. Eventually Yoshiko tells the two to let her go and Kana falls to her knees for a moment before continuing down, landing face first. Yoshiko grins and pulls up Kana, not satisfied with that alone. Karen peaks out from hiding, but looks away as Yoshiko sets her Kana up, lifting her up upside down and holds her there for a moment or two before planting Kana on the top of her head with a delayed double underhook piledriver. Yoshiko lifts up Kana and tosses her out, just seconds before the buzzer. Act Yasukawa is next at #16. Act targets Charlotte upon arrive, who is working over a grounded Charlotte sees Act coming and powers out, not wanting any of Act. Charlotte heads towards the ring announcer’s position and demands his chair. Veda Scott looked to eliminate Act from behind with Act keeping an eye on Charlotte, however Act managed to fight Scott off and eliminate her. Charlotte returned to the ring and struck Act in the back with the chair, then Skyler in the head. Charlotte dodges Yosiko and strikes her across the back. Teioh gets the chair thrown at her face, which stuns her, allowing Charlotte to send her packing. Making a surprise entry in the Survival match is Lufisto, who enters at #17. She comes to the ring armed with a chain. Charlotte grabs hold of the chair, downward stabbing Act and Skyler in the stomach before calling out Lufisto. Both remaining members of Oedo Tai are down and not a current threat. They close in on each other, and Charlotte looks to strike first. Lufisto dodges and gets a knee up, striking Charlotte in the mid-section before positioning herself behind Charlotte and using the chain to choke her out. Charlotte tries to fight free and gets lucky enough to be able to back Lufisto against the corner. Lufisto lets go of the chain, but she stays on Charlotte and positions her against the corner before delivering a stiff sounding chop. Lufisto goes upstairs and delivers the ten punches as Lora Rios enters next at #18. Lufisto gets headbutted downstairs before she can connect with the final strike of the combination. Lufisto’s stunned from the blow and Charlotte acts quickly to eliminate Lufisto from the match. Yoshiko is shaking of the strike with the chair, only to have Rios target her upon entry. Charlotte is about to toss Lufisto’s chain out as well, but first tags Yoshiko in the spine, before drilling Skyler in the face, sending her back against the corner. Charlotte kisses the chain before striking Skyler again. Skyler’s busted open and Charlotte lets her fall. Charlotte tosses the chain out before dealing assisting Rios with Yoshiko. Charlotte turned as Skyler was about to fall down, but did not see where she landed as Skyler went through the ropes and landed on the outside. The #19 entrant Natsumi Omura joins Rios and Charlotte in weakening Yoshiko further. Yoshiko tries to fight them off but the numbers become too much. Even though there is three of them they struggle to get her out. Act gets back to her feet and decides to help Yoshiko out. Charlotte turns to rake the eyes of Act before turning her attention back to Yoshiko, which the group finally manages to get Yoshiko over and out. Rios and Omura decide they should do something about Charlotte before it’s too late and manages to take her down to the canvas. They each grab a leg and make a wish, which Charlotte wishes they didn’t do that and is feeling it. Act gets her vision back and just before Omura and Rios can pull off another double team maneuver, Act pulls Omura away and after a short struggle eliminates her. The last entrant is a masked participant under the name Jessica Guerrera, entering to something resembling what was Juvi’s main theme back in his WCW days. She hits the ring and goes upstairs right away. She takes off, throwing herself at Charlotte and takes her down. She’s moving fast and knocks down Rios and then Act. She continues her speedy offence, alternating between Act and Rios. Guerrera gets the crowd behind her, but almost has her head taken off as she turns into a running lariat from Charlotte. Charlotte’s pissed off, but before she eliminates Guerrera, she wants to see what’s under the mask and proceeds to take it off. Guerrera puts up no resistance due to the lariat seconds earlier. The mask is off and Jessica Guerrera is in reality Emma Matthews. Charlotte. Charlotte tosses the mask out as well. Meanwhile Act are back on their feet and are going at it near the ropes. Charlotte quickly moves in and tries to send them both over. Rios lands on the outside, Act manages to hold on however. Charlotte looks to knock Act down, but Act with a mid-section shoulder thrust gives her time to step back in. Instead of doing it the easy way she slingshot herself over, as if she was going for a sunset flip. She does so, but instead of taking Charlotte over Act rolls and quickly stands back up and tags Charlotte with a superkick. Charlotte falls back against the ropes and Act has no difficulty in knocking Charlotte over. Act’s the last one standing, or is she? She thinks she’s won it, but there’s no bell. She wonders what’s up and she turns to see Skyler Raye slowly pulling herself back in the ring. Skyler’s in rough shape, but both knew what was at stake going into this one, and the change of them being the final two. The combination of Charlotte using both a chair and chain on her, plus the landing, and let’s not forget the figure four around the ring post, Skyler wasn’t moving at her using speed, but she gestured to Act to come at her. Act did so and either one held back, but it didn’t take long for Act to knock Skyler down to her knees. Act sizes her up and when Skyler gets back to her free Act looks to finish her off with a superkick. Skyler dodges and quickly grabs hold of Act from behind, attempting to take Act down with a crossface submission. Skyler may be worn down at the hands of Charlotte, but she’s making up for it as Act’s losing steam fast. Act tries to hold on, but realizes she’s in for as long as Skyler feels like it. Act pulls herself together and attempts to stand up. It’s a struggle, but she manages to do so. Skyler tries to hold on to her grip but soon finds herself on Act’s shoulders. Skyler strikes repeatedly with an elbow to get free as they’re dangerously near the ropes. Skyler manages to escape and lands on her feet. Act turns to face her opponent, but takes a superkick square to the face, causing her to fall convincingly over the top rope. Act lands hard on the outside, Skyler wins. The bell sounds and Skyler falls to her knees. She had everything thrown at her and managed to hold one for not only her second Survival win, but the women’s championship as well. Getting the championship belt in hand, Skyler manages to pull herself back to a standing position. Serena Moon returns to the ring, joined by Kris Wolf and Asrial Major. Wolf and Major’s names weren’t drawn for the match, but they, as does Moon, join in on the new champion’s celebration. Major and Moon shortly after congratulating the champ notice Act, still on the outside. They help her back to her feet. Act tries to shake off the effects of that last superkick before rolling inside the ring. Act knows how close she was to be the one holding the gold. The loss does sting, but it looks like she can take consolation in the fact the match was won by one of them. Wolf brings that point up, which Act nods in agreement. Act looks at Skyler, then the belt, then back at Skyler before holding her hand out. Skyler takes it, and it looks like everything’s alright between them. Both Jim Ross and Don Callis agree that that final exchange could have gone either way. In the backstage area Jeff Hardy is talking with Alex Bryce about the upcoming Survival match, more importantly that he heard Matt wasn’t chosen to enter tonight, and hasn’t seen him since. He asks Bryce if he’s seen him at all today, which Bryce recalls seeing him earlier in the afternoon. He doesn’t know if it was before or after Jeff finding out about that only Jeff was picked to be in the match, but he recalls Matt saying something about being chosen for something bigger. Chuck Taylor is nearby and he weighs in on the situation, stating Jeff should check Matt into a mental hospital. Matt suddenly appears and informs them that they’re simplistic mortal minds cannot comprehend what not being chosen for the battle for survival means, which he states he will enjoy watching the chaos, even if it means, as unfortunate as it sounds, that his brother becomes one of the many fallen. Jeff looks a bit bothered by what Matt said and asks his Matt if he feels that Jeff can’t become the number one contender on his own. Chuck Taylor gives his a decent sounding Darth Vader impersonation and says “I find your lack of faith disturbing.” Bryce finds that amusing. Jeff doesn’t because of the timing, which Bryce and Taylor decide to leave. Before Jeff does the same he tells Matt he’s more than capable of being the last man standing. Tag Team Championship Derek Wylde and Tye Dillinger vs Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin While the tale of the tape favours the defending the champions, Don Calls feels with how Wylde and Dillinger have gotten along lately could end up being the difference maker if the Motor City Machine Guns aren’t careful. For the most part, the challengers kept their game plan simple overall, not wanting to make a mistake, and kept their in-ring times in the ring short whenever possible. That doesn’t mean they weren’t willing too turn up the heat, as Derek Wylde showed he can still do despite pushing 40, taking out both members of the MCMG on the outside with a corkscrew suicide dive. Dillinger had to duck out of the way to avoid being taken out as well, but managed to do so in time. The challengers looked to build on the momentum from that last move, which Dillinger tags in after Wylde returns to the ring with Sabin. Dillinger puts Sabin in the corner, connecting with the 10 punches before setting Sabin up for a spinning back. Dillinger goes upstairs and connects with a frog splash. Could have new champions here, but Shelley breaks up the pin in time. Wylde enters as well and now all four at inside. The challengers get control and look to send the champions into each other. The MCMG reverse the attempt and the challengers are on a collision course. They manage to avoid the contact and Wylde connects with a spear on Shelley, while Dillinger manages to apply a crucifix pin on Sabin, nearfall. Wylde sends Shelley to the outside before returning to his team’s corner. Dillinger makes a quick tag before dropping Sabin with a single knee facebreaker. Wylde goes up top and comes off with a diving senton. He got all of it and makes the cover. Shelley can’t return to the ring in time to make the save, and even if he could Dillinger had an eye on him, we have new champions. After a short in-ring celebration by the winners, the now former champions offer to shake the hands of the winners and put the belts around them. Once that’s done the MCMG are about to leave when they are taken down by a double line from Rob Rage. The new champs have the same happen to them before each of them are tossed over the top rope. Rage calls for a mic and states what we just saw is a small preview of what will happen in the main event later tonight. He didn’t think there was a down side to being the 30th entrant, but he found one, and that is more than likely there will be less than 29 other wrestlers that need their faces kicked it, but he promises everyone that regardless of who all left when the Supernova of Superstar’s number comes up, he will walk the aisle and gives whoever is left a one way express ticket to the floor, and he will punch his first class ticket to Starcade. Rage then heads backstage, having said what he wanted to say. Don Callis calls Rage’s actions a simple warmup. As the ring clears things shift backstage to Hutch Henries who is standing by with Brian Kendrick. Kendrick’s set to defend against Rusev, while a break from AJ Styles, could still be an uphill battle. Kendrick’s aware of what Rusev brings to the table, knowing the destruction Rusev has left behind him in the past, and that an opportunity like this is one Rusev has been hungering for for some time now. However Kendrick plans on delaying the souviet suplex machine’s feast. The name of the game tonight is survival, and that’s something Kendrick excels at. Not once but twice he survived AJ Styles. Some may not like it, but the fact of the matter is Kendrick has the gold, and it doesn’t matter if it’s Rusev, Styles, or anyone else, he will keep on surviving. Speaking of AJ Styles, before things shift back to ringside he is shown in the locker room area, preparing for the Survival match. Byrce asks Styles if he has any thought about not being the one to face Kendrick tonight, which Styles admits he knows he can get the job done if he gets Kendrick one more time, but he’s willing to forget about tonight because he plans on doing one better and that’s winning the Survival match. Bryce gets where Styles is coming from, but reminds Styles that there is 29 others in that match, including him. Styles asks if Bryce seriously thinks he can be the last one left standing once the dust settles. Things might be getting a bit heated as the two look like they might partake in an early preview of the match in question. Akuma tells them both to take it easy, which they appear to settle down, and Akuma adds it’ll be someone from Team FIST that will main event Starcade, most likely him. At the very least Styles and Bryce can agree in finding that a bit humourous. Canadian National Championship Rusev w/Lana vs Brian Kendrick During the bout AJ Styles is shown watching on a monitor backstage. While he wasn’t able to win the number one contender’s match against Rusev, he’s still shown interest in getting the better of Brian Kendrick, having come close and robbed twice before, three times if you count Kendrick’s involvement in the Rusev/Styles match. Styles remained backstage for the duration of the bout and let the two men go at it. Kendrick showed more craftiness to compensate for Rusev’s strength advantage, and it appeared to work as he was able to make a comeback before Rusev could go for the accolade. Lana attempted to put a stop to it, but Kendrick’s momentum caused him to take a page out of Jericho’s books and giver he a springboard dropkick. Lana covers up, Kendrick fakes the spring off. Lana sees that Kendrick faked her out and feels like taking a swing at him. At the same time Rusev rushes in. Kendrick springs over and behind Rusev, and Lana ends up hitting Rusev instead. Rusev demands to know what that was for. Lana tries to explain herself, and with the distraction Kendrick pulls Rusev’s feet out from under him, causing Rusev to hit his face against the top turnbuckle. Rusev’s still on his feet, but is unsure of his surroundings from the imapct. The referee orders Lana down as Kendrick quickly hops on the middle rope. Rusev feeds a little closer and Kendrick connects with a blocker buster. Kendrick covers Rusev quickly after connecting with the move. Rusev manages to kick out, but the hand of referee Justin Kronan came down for the third time a split second sooner, Kendrick manages to escape with the title. Kendrick feels it’s wise to take his celebration on the road as Rusev might not be happy when he gets back to his feet. He was correct with that assumption as Rusev is not pleased with the outcome. Both Rusev and Lana blame each other for the loss and continue their argument back up the runway. Brad Rose catches up with AJ Styles backstage as the challenger leaves the ring in defeat and asks Styles his thoughts on the match. Styles admits he was surprised with the out come, but he gives Kendrick credit there. However Styles can return his focus to the Survival match where he will take on 29 other hopefuls with one goal in mind, and that’s to main event and leave Starcade as the new world heavyweight champion. When asked for a prediction for the title match that is moments away from going down Styles comments it does not matter to him who wins, he will see one of them at Starcade’s main event. Before things shift back to the ring Hutch Henries is shown standing by with Skyler Raye, who earlier tonight captured the women’s championship. This is her second time winning the Survival match, and this time around had to have been her toughest challenge to date. When asked what was going through her mind when she realized it was down to her and Act she mentions at the time she admits she didn’t have much left, and Act’s the toughest person she knows. Not to knock anyone else on the roster, and no pun intended, but eliminating her to become the champion, that’s a pretty tough act to follow. The rest of the group, Act included, appear to be behind the new champion, which the interviewer notes, and with that in mind how will this effect them all as they approach Starcade. Skyler feels they’ll each have to take it day by day. The first time she won this match her spot at Starcade was guaranteed as the challenger. However now that she’s the champion she has to hold onto it from now until then. With the talent on the roster that’s easier said than done, however she’s up for the challenge. A short video package highlighting Barrett’s reign as champion so far, combined with some of Rock’s in-ring career highlights is shown, leading up to their encounter tonight. Barrett asked Bischoff to find him someone who can give him a good run for his money, and Bischoff produced in a big way. They got along fine in a tag match recently, but both men know what the bigger picture is. While the video played there was a change at the table ringside as Jim Ross finished his part of the show and tags out for Jason Kronan, who will join Don Callis for the remainder of the show. World Heavyweight Championship The Rock vs Wade Barrett Before the bell sounded Don Callis gave his final thoughts on the match. The Rock’s resume inside the squared circle is impressive, having defeated many of the top names in the game. However the one thing he cannot say is out of everywhere Rock has wrestled he has not held every major title a promotion had to offer, but Wade Barrett can. Barrett’s the hot ticket now, and sometimes in this business it’s not what have you done, but what have you done lately. As we’ve seen in his previous matches leading up to tonight, The Rock doesn’t show signs of rust, though Jason Kronan mentions his matches as of late one could argue is on a different scale in comparison to tonight’s championship match. Referee Eddington James is assigned to the bout. In the early stages of the match the ref gets the clean breaks as they come, however the longer it goes on the more Rock bends the rules, which the official gets on his case about, even more so after introducing Barrett to the ring steps. The ref knows the importance of the match but warns the Rock he will stop the match if the Rock fails to keep it in the ring. Rocky continues to wear Barrett down after bringing him back inside the ropes. Barrett attempts to fight back, but gets caught with a spinebuster. Rock could go for a pin, but instead opts for a submission move instead, applying the sharpshooter. Don Callis backs Barrett, wanting him to get to the ropes after accusing the rock of stealing another former champion’s signature move. His broadcast wonders what isn’t stolen these days, but notes the Rock’s choice of move is a good one. Barrett attempts to pull himself to the ropes. It takes some effort but he manages to grab hold for the break. The Rock holds it for a few extra seconds before letting go. He pulls Barrett to the middle of the ring before making a pin attempt. Two count from the ref. Rock wants a faster count as he lifts up Barrett and sends him to the corner. The Rock closes in and sets Barrett up top. Possible superplex here. Barrett attempts to fight free, Rock looks to keep control, however Barrett grabs hold of him and adjusts his footing before taking off with a sitout powerbomb. Both men are down from the impact. The ref checks on both men before putting in a count. Both men manage to put themselves to a standing position at 8, the match continues. They trade blows with Rock getting the upper hand after a little bit. Rock sets up for the rock bottom. Barrett knows its coming and elbows Rock in the side of the head. Rock’s stunned and Barrett sends Rock towards the ropes. Rock reverses, Barrett reversals the reversal and connects with his old winds of change move. Barrett with the cover, nearfall. Barrett asks the ref if he’s sure of the count, feeling that should have been it. Barrett stands back up and decides he should finish off his opponent while he has the chance. He loads up the bull hammer, and when Rock stands back up he takes aim and prepares to knock the Rock out. The challenge avoids the bull hammer and quickly pulls Barrett in for the rock bottom. Rocky got all of that it. Rock with the cover, Barrett gets the shoulder up at the last possible moment. Rock can’t believe the title didn’t change hands there. Rock sizes up Barrett, and when the champion gets back to his feet Rock takes him down with a spinbuster. The Rock wants to put the finishing touches on this match as the elbow pad comes off. The fans know what’s coming, the most electrifying move in wrestling...if Barrett didn’t manage to move out of the way in time. Rock’s elbow catches nothing but canvas. Barrett’s back on his feet and he quickly reloads as Rock stands back up, favouring his elbow. He turns around and Barrett nails Rock right between the eyes with the bull hammer. Rocky goes down, Barrett goes down on top of him. Referee in perfect position to make the count, this one’s history. Both announcers give it to both competitors, but in the end Barrett showed why he is the champion. Before Barrett leaves the ring he calls for a mic. He takes a moment to catch his breather before stating “To the 30 men competing in tonight’s Survival match, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news. Who ever feels that winning that match will be their ticket to glory and fame, take a look at what happened to Mr. Hollywood. Best of luck, gentlemen, you’ll need it.” He holds up his championship belt high before returning backstage. Before the main event is introduced Hutch Henries is standing by with the owner of XCW, Damien Maxwell. The boss asked for this time before the main event. Before getting down to business his wishes the 30 men in the upcoming Survival match good luck as a spot in Starcade’s main event is on the line. He then brings up the Survival match which kicked off the night’s action, which saw the crowning of a new women’s champion. He congratulates Skyler Raye on the win, before adding that what he’s about to announce involves her. As we know, that match was for the championship instead of the number one contender spot, which means as of right now there is no confirmed challenger for Skyler Raye for Starcade, but that will change at Full Metal. At that event the contract for the women’s championship match at Starcade will be hung above the ring, and the first participant to climb a ladder and pull it down will be the number one contender. Hutch Henries likes the idea of a ladder match for the title shot. Hutch then asks who will be in the match, which Damien states in the interest of fairness to everyone in the women’s division, including Natalya, which he knows she would have preferred to be in the ring tonight and not watching on a monitor backstage, both he and Eric Bischoff will talk it over and come to a decision at a later date. Survival Winner to face the world heavyweight champion at Starcade The first entrant in this year’s rumble style bout is Jack Swagger. Swagger can’t be pleased with the number he drew, but he’s hiding it well. Joining him to start off the match is Team FIST member Icarus. Other than your typical fighting for control nothing much happens and Brad Maddox comes out at #3. He target Swagger early on, but Swagger is able to fight off the double team. Coming in at #4 a couple of minutes later is Alex Shelley. Ross Steven enters at #5, and Jim Cornette follows him down to the ring. Damien Sandow and Dean Martin later enter at #6 and #7 respectively. They work together, but are unable to eliminate anyone by the time number Chuck Taylor enters in the #8 spot. IWF talent AC Hunter gets to try his luck, entering at #9. He targets Martin upon entry, but Sandow has his apprentice’s back. Chuck Taylor looks like he might be eliminated by Brad Maddox, but Icarus makes the save. The crowd thinks they know who will enter 10th, but are thrown off by the arrival of Bo Dallas. Swagger goes over the top rope, but manages to hold on and saves himself. Sandow and Martin looks to double team him and knock him down, but Swagger fights them both off and re-enters the ring. Big T hits the ring as the 11th man in the match. He decks Brad Maddox, who powders to the outside. He knocks down Shelley, Taylor, and Sandow, before being attacked from behind by Icarus. An unexpected entrant hits the ring in the #12 position as Caleb Stills enters the battle to get a shot at a championship that was once his. Maddox is back in the ring and looks to send Stills packing quickly, but Stills holds on to the top rope in the corner, not wanting to go anywhere and remains in. Dallas strikes Maddox and encourages Stills to double team Maddox. It doesn’t last long as Big T knocks them both down. Business is about to pick up as Unsettling Difference plays for the man who drew #13, the returning Kevin Steen. He hasn’t been since losing the championship to Wade Barrett last year at Banned at the Border. Steen’s return is felt instantly as Stills is the first to be eliminated by the former champion. Maddox is the next to be knocked over, then Shelley. He drops both Taylor and Big T, who were battling near the ropes. Hunter’s next to feel the wrath of Steen and he’s sent packing. Martin attempts to rush at Steen, Steen telegraphs it and helps guide Martin over and out. Sandow doesn’t like what he saw and he rushes in as well. Steen pulls down the top rope and Sandow hits the floor. Stevens is the next to be eliminated, which Cornette isn’t a fan of. Swagger attempts to eliminate Dallas, Steen pulls Swagger off and tosses him over. Steen checks to see who is left and Icarus comes off the top rope looking to connect with a double axe handle. Steen avoids the contact before grabbing him and tossing him over. Dallas attempts to find sanctuary on the outside, but before he can escape under the bottom rope Steen has him. Dallas takes a package piledriver before being tossed over. An unprecedented 12 eliminations just took place, and Kevin Steen is fired up. Steen has some time to spare before Chris Sabin comes out at #14. They have a short exchange until Sabin’s introduced to the outside. Steen sits on the top buckle as the clock winds down and the #15 spot belongs to Derek Wylde. His exchange with Steen is a second or two shorter than Sabin’s is and he is deposited on the outside. Again he waits for the clock to make its way to zero, and when it does he his joined by Harry Smith. Smith isn’t easy to handle Smith takes the fight to Steen. Both men are still in the ring when Gran Akuma enters the bout at #17. No eliminations for those two minutes and Tye Dillinger enters the bout next in the #18 spot. Alex Bryce joins the battle next, having drawn #19. No more eliminations as of year as the ring is starting to fill back up nicely, and AJ Styles enters at #20. Dillinger comes close to being eliminated by Styles, but the man of ten is able to hold on to the rope after being tossed over. He re-enters safely. Kenny Omega officially enters at #21. He drew his number earlier in the day and was under tight security since. He has notable targets he can choose from, guys like Styles and Bryce he has dealt with in the past, but he opts for Dillinger. Dillinger doesn’t go down with a fight, and Dillinger gets some assistance from Akuma of all people. Omega manages get Akuma away from him before eliminating Dillinger moments later. The countdown for the next entrant begins shortly after Dillinger hits the floor. Akuma is targeted, but following the buzzer and the familiar “Break the walls dooowwnnnn” is heard, Omega’s interest in Akuma drops to zero, and Akuma quickly moves away. Chris Jericho is entrant #22, and those that are still in the ring give Omega distance as he calls for Y2J to come at him. The two stare each other down for a moment before circling each others. After a few more seconds the gloves are off and they go at it. Nobody dares get in their way, which they have to move out of the way for the remainder of the time before Heath Slater comes out at #23. Omega takes Jericho down before tosses him through the ropes and to the outside. Omega follows and the two battle on the floor. They’re still out there when the man who drew #24 enters, that being Zack Ryder. Ryder is almost caught by Slater upon entry, but Ryder manages to escape from the eliminate attempt. Everyone else is still alive when Nick Watts enters in the #25 position. James R. Kennedy is with him. Bryce is almost eliminated by AJ Styles, but strangely Watts prevents that from happening and targets Styles. Don Callis believes that Watts wants to make a name for himself by eliminating Styles. He and his broadcast partner are forced to leave the table momentarily shortly after that comment as Jericho and Omega take their fight near them. Internet Champion Sami Zayn enters next at #26. He helps Bryce eliminate Akuma from the match. Omega and Jericho takes their fight back in the ring as Jeff Hardy enters at number #27. Watts looks to eliminate Jeff quickly, but he’s the one who ends up on the outside, and Kennedy is furious. So is Watts when he gets back to his feet, but he is gone. Moments later Ryder’s eliminated by Heath Slater. Slater feels some momentum coming his way and goes for Smith, but Steen adds to his kill count and eliminates Slater instead. Coming out at #28 is The Miz. Miz is quick to make his presence known as he helps Zayn eliminate Jeff Hardy. Jericho and Miz are still going at it until Omega’s locked in the Walls of Jericho. Omega grabs hold of the bottom rope, but no rope breaks here. Omega gets lucky however as Miz strikes Jericho up high. A surprise entrant comes out at #29 as The Bachelor Bear Ben Boone hits the ring. Lately on the US independents he’s been running a parody version of the guy from the ‘hit reality show’ but it’s his fight style is still pretty much the same as what fans have come to know. Styles eliminates Bryce shortly steps through the ropes. Omega’s back on his feet and he joins Miz in attacking Jericho. Smith looks to eliminate Steen, however Steen manages to fight free and remains inside. Going into the match, Rob Rage’s entry position was known, so there was no surprise when his turn came. Being the last one to enter he takes his time heading to the ring. When he enters, Zayn takes a spear. Zayn gets thrown over the top rope, with some good hang time, before hitting the floor. Rage eliminates Boone from title contention moments late. Omega finally manages to get the best of Jericho and dumps him to the outside. That gets Omega fired up, though he soon joins Jericho on the outside, courtesy the hands of the Supernova of Superstars. The two men continue their fight on the outside, and the referee attempt to get between them. As this goes on Smith sends Steen over and out. The officials are busy dealing with Omega and Jericho that this elimination doesn’t get spotted. Steen notices this and manages to sneak back in undetected. Jericho takes the railing and the referees tell Omega to return to the locker room. Jericho looks shaken up as he gets back to his feet and checks his forehead before feeling it might be best to call it a day. One of the officials notices Rage and Miz battling near the rope. Steen comes up behind Rage proceeds to dump them over. The referee hurries into position and notices them both landing on the outside. Omega decides he’s done enough for the time being, though he catches Jericho at where ringside beings and the entryway ends and they fight. When the second ref notices. Smith eliminates Styles, who lands near the other official as he’s making sure that if Styles and Jericho are continuing to go at it that they do so heading away from the ring. Styles is obviously eliminates as the ref sees him. Smith doesn’t know that Steen is still in the match, and before Smith can react to him having the feeling he’s the last one standing, Steen grabs him from behind and tosses him out. Steen’s ruled the winner and has his arms raised by the referees. He exits the ring and triumphantly heads back to the locker room as Smith enters the ring and protests the decision. Smith is really heated right now as he grabs one of the ref’s by his shirt collar. Smith eventually lets go and the ref feels it’s best to leave. Smith is in the ring in disbelief, Steen’s disappeared behind the curtain, but he’s on his way to Starcade as the show goes off the air. |

- Surprised to see the female Survival match open the show. Huge win for Skyler especially after eliminating Act Yasukawa last. - Wow. Was not expecting The MCMG's to lose their gold at all. Tonight seems to be a night of shock so far. - I was convinced Rusev would win the title. Damn. Brian Kendrick is lucky to leave with his limbs in tact, let alone the belt. - Without a doubt the biggest defence of Wade Barrett's title reign so far. To beat a legend like The Rock takes him to a whole new level. - Kevin Steen proved tonight why he is one of the most wiley heels in the company. Such a shame to see Harry Smith fall at the last hurdle. |
