EPW Live #92

Once Reloaded is all wrapped up, the main broadcast begins with a recap of last week's episode showing Zack Sabre Jr. returning to English Pro Wrestling to defeat Travis Banks followed by a confrontation with EPW British Undisputed Champion Mark Haskins. We also saw Viper beat long-time enemy Kay Lee Ray in a Steel Cage Match, Drew Galloway debuted with a victory over Zack Gibson, The Aussie Open jumped TK Cooper in a 2-on-1 backstage ambush and Big Damo attacked Pete Dunne after he was victorious in a tag team match. Tonight's show comes to you live from the Portsmouth Guildhall. Mauro Ranallo and Nigel McGuinness are standing by at ringside and run down the scheduled card which includes Will Ospreay vs. Noam Dar, TK Cooper seeks redemption as he goes one-on-one with The Aussie Open's Mark Davis and The Glaswegian Assembly battle Muscle, Steel and Sex Appeal in tag team action. Our main event is yet to be revealed.

The music of Zack Sabre Jr. is heard throughout the venue to a huge roar from the sell-out crowd in attendance. The Technical Wizard walks down to the ring whilst the commentary team summarise the events of his return last week. Once he reaches the ring, he is passed the microphone and tells the fans what a pleasure it is to be back in Portsmouth. The grappler from Kent isn't one to beat around the bush. He reminds us of the stare down he had with Mark Haskins last week before challenging The Hellbent Anti-Hero to put up his title belt in a match against him. Instead of a response from the reigning champion, out walks William Regal followed by Joe Hendry, Dave Mastiff and The Front Office. The commissioner's associate obtain a microphone for the boss in the ring. He informs his newest employee that you have to earn title matches here in English Pro Wrestling. Regal does however intend on giving him the opportunity to do just that though if The Technical Wizard can beat his enforcer Dave Mastiff. The Bastard From The Black Country then steps in to the ring. He declares that Zack Sabre Jr.'s arrival to the company is going to be short lived because he won't just beat him later on. The 315lb monster wants to tear him apart. The commissioner is smiling in the corner. The big man approaches his smaller opponent however Regal tells his associate to save it for the main event. He does just that. The segment ends with Sabre Jr. watching on whilst the boss marches back down the aisle with his allies behind him.

TK Cooper vs. Mark Davis
The Aussie Open have made it their business to try and dent the confidence of TK Cooper over recent weeks. Two weeks ago they verbally ran him down in the ring after announcing that he was debating his future and the Australian tag team jumped him in the backstage area during last week's episode. The underdog from New Zealand gets his opportunity at revenge as he goes one-on-one with one half of his arch-rival's; Mark Davis. The Dunkzilla makes his way out to the sound of 'Close Your Eyes' by Run The Jewels. The powerhouse from Queensland weighs in at 240lbs which is a good 40lbs more than his opponent. TK Cooper is welcomed to the ring with cheers which gives him a smile. His recent luck might be down however he is still fighting to get his career back on track. The match kicks off early when Davis attacks Cooper as he steps through the ropes. As TK staggers back in to the turnbuckles, he is nailed with some kicks to the gut and then falls victim to several knife-edge chops. The Dunkzilla steps back when ordered to by the referee. His opponent then leaps out of the corner and knocks him down with a Running Leg Lariat. Cooper then follows up with a Dropkick, a Japanese Arm Drag and a Running Neckbreaker for a two count. The underdog struggles to maintain that control. Davis uses his strength to make the comeback and execute a Sleeper Suplex. The heavyweight takes to the ropes to nail a Diving Elbow Drop for a two count of his own. He continues to use his power to retain the momentum with several power moves. As he lifts Cooper for a Gutwrench Suplex though, the move is countered in to a Hurricanrana and the New Zealand native delivers a Tornado DDT on the rebound. The mood turns sour all of a sudden. Kyle Fletcher has begun a light jog down to ringside. The Aussie Arrow has some bad intentions in mind as he circles around the ringside area. Out of nowhere, Travis Banks sprints down the aisle to even the odds. A brawl begins between he and Fletcher in front of the fans. The Kiwi Buzzsaw is in control however Cooper flies over the ropes to the outside with the Loverdose Corkscrew. He nails it perfectly on Kyle Fletcher before his partner drags the interfering party to the backstage area. Once TK returns to the ring, Mark Davis has found his feet and recovered. The Dunkzilla shoves his opponent in to the ropes before executing the Pop-Up Powerbomb on the rebound. He then hooks the leg. The referee counts three. Mark Davis picks up the win. As his arm is raised in victory, the fans hurl boos at the winner and he looks smug as hell. He doesn't hang around to celebrate. The Dunkzilla is straight up the aisle towards the backstage area. TK Cooper's dip in form continues.

Jennifer Louise is standing by for an interview in the back with a wrestler we haven't seen in many months; Jack Gallagher. You can hear the cheers from the backstage area. The last time we saw The Extraordinary Gentleman was when he unsuccessfully tried to win back the EPW British Undisputed Championship against Big Damo back at EPW Live #75: Ascension. Despite the recent absence, the former champion is still dressed as classy as ever with a smile on his face. Gallagher is happy to be back in English Pro Wrestling and hopes to return to the squared circle as soon as possible. He admits that he did pick up some bumps and bruises when he faced off against Damo last. The Beast From Belfast beat him up pretty good in both their encounters however he is now back to full health both physically and mentally. Before he does get back to wrestling though, Gallagher wants to address the crowd next week in the ring on how he feels about the current state of the company. He doesn't give away much more when pressed by the interviewer to elaborate. The Extraordinary Gentleman simply tells her to watch his in-ring statement on next week's episode before swinging his umbrella over his shoulder and then strutting off up the corridor.

Will Ospreay vs. Noam Dar
We saw The Aerial Assassin stick up for himself at the start of last week's episode when he got Pete Dunne back for nailing him with a sledgehammer back at EPW Live #85: London Brawling by dropping The Bruiserweight with the Oscutter. It came back to bite him though when Dunne, who he was later forced to partner up with in a tag team match, dropped him with the Bitter End. That rivalry rages on despite Dunne not being here this week thanks to being thrown off the stage by Big Damo last week too. Will Ospreay is given his usual hero's welcome on his way down to the ring. The fans cheer as he hops up on to the turnbuckles to salute them. 'Weekend Rockstar' by CFO$ blares over the speakers to signify the entrance of Noam Dar. He walks down the aisle whilst a replay airs over him leaping off the steel cage to be caught by Viper during last week's Steel Cage Match. Nigel McGuinness comments that it's safe to say that he failed to win back the heart of Kay Lee Ray with that act of stupidity. The two engage in a little catch wrestling on the mat before returning to a vertical base. The Scottish Supernova manages to pull off a Dragon Screw Leg Whip in to a Figure-Four Leg Lock. It is immediately countered and Ospreay applies the Rainham Cloverleaf. His opponent is in pain but slowly gets to the ropes for the break. As Noam climbs up, he is placed in to a tree of woe position in the corner. He tries to struggle free however is nailed with a Cheeky Nandos Kick for a two count. Ospreay lifts Dar to hit feet who pokes him in the eye to turn the tables. The high-flying Scotsman quickly capitalises with a Low Dropkick and then delivers a Fisherman Buster for a two count of his own. He then mounts his opponent and reigns down on him with several right hands. Noam Dar can't help himself. He turns to the crowd to taunt them. Unbeknownst to him, Ospreay is back up to his feet. He regains the momentum by executing a Front Flip DDT, nailing him with a 720 Grounded Kick and then leaping through the air to drill him with a successful Springboard Forearm Splash. It appears that the high-flyer from Essex is about to make quick work of his adversary. Ospreay springs off the ropes for the Oscutter. Noam Dar manages to escape it with a nasty shoot kick to the spine. He then locks on the Champagne Super Kneebar for the submission. Ranallo and McGuinness ponder whether The Scottish Supernova could pull off the upset. Ospreay's hand is up in the air. He debates tapping out but soon finds the strength to wriggle free. The two men find their feet. Dar goes in for the kill. He is blasted with a Roundhouse Kick which knocks him silly. His opponent then finally drops him with the Oscutter and makes the cover. The official counts three. Will Ospreay picks up the victory. He doesn't even get a chance to celebrate though. Big Damo attacks him from behind. The Beast From Belfast launches his victim in to the corner before delivering several knees to the gut. As the prey tries to fight back, he finds himself in the clutches of his attacker who soon drops him with the Ulster Plantation. Damo stands over The Aerial Assassin whilst the fans in Portsmouth hurl jeers his way. This only adds fuel to the fire. He applies the Cu Chullain's Wrath and proceeds to choke the life out of Ospreay. Once he passes out, the heavyweight from Ireland releases the hold. He eventually leaves the ring with a scowl on his face. The commentary team remind us that this man beast is now in cahoots with William Regal. Who knows what chaos he could create with the backing of our commissioner.

Jennifer Louise is in the backstage area for another interview. This time she is joined by Joe Hendry who is watching the show on a monitor with a grin on his face. The Prestigious One claims that what we just saw before us is the work of the great William Regal. He proceeds to call the commissioner the greatest visionary in our industry and the very man that has led this company in to this successful modern era. When the interviewer tries to ask him another question, he claims that he isn't quite done yet before declaring that the boss is building an elite group of the finest talent that the United Kingdom has to offer to rid English Pro Wrestling of anybody that dares question his authority. Hendry then asks what better man to be the face of that group than him. Drew Galloway then approaches him to put an end to this right now. The Celtic Colossus tells The Prestigious One that he intends on being 'the voice of the people' and every single person watching at home is thinking what an ass-kissing stooge Joe Hendry is sounding like right now. He explains that they go way back however Galloway is finding it hard to stomach listening to the utter drivel coming out of his mouth. As Hendry attempts to answer back, he is stopped and told that he is a disgrace to their nation of Scotland. The segment comes to an end when Galloway shoves his newfound enemy out of the way so he can pass. It is safe to say that the new arrival is not going to be a corporate player.

The Glaswegian Assembly vs. Muscle, Steel and Sex Appeal
Rumours were circulating that things between Nathan Cruz and Josh Bodom weren't good however the self-proclaimed most ravishing tag team stated two weeks ago that the rift between them had been greatly exaggerated by the media. As they make their entrance, Mauro Ranallo and Nigel McGuinness discuss the duo's lack of success since pairing up. Many expected the former EPW British 15 Champion and the young prodigy to go on to big things. This has not been the case. They have a tough challenge ahead tonight though. The Glaswegian Assembly are two determined heavyweights from Scotland who take no prisoners. Joe Coffey and Wolfgang stomp down the aisle to get right to work. The referee eventually gets some decorum. Wolfgang and Cruz are the legal men. The Regulator batters The Prima Donna in the corner before launching him across the ring with a Belly-To-Belly Suplex. As Cruz rolls in to the corner, he is nailed with a Running Corner Dropkick by the big man. He then takes to the second rope to execute a Diving Moonsault for a two count. The Glaswegian Assembly are well in control. Wolfgang tags out. Joe Coffey storms in with a Clothesline, a Gorilla Press Slam and a Running Splash. The Iron Man then applies the No Mercy Crab in the middle of the ring. As he pulls back, Cruz looks in serious pain and debates tapping out. He manages to escape the hold. The Prima Donna then dives over to make the tag to Josh Bodom. The Blonde Bomber reluctantly steps in. He circles his opponent before leaping on his back for a Rear Naked Choke. Coffey simply shrugs him off and then levels him with an STO to the canvas. The crowd counts along as he proceeds to swing Bodom round several times with the Big Swing. After hitting ten, he releases him and tags out. Wolfgang climbs up to the top rope with the Howling in mind. The crowd stand however he is stopped in his tracks when Nathan Cruz rushes across the apron to shove off the ropes and The Regulator lands throat first on the steel barricade at ringside. As an angry Joe Coffey storms in, he is jumped by both members of the opposing team. Nathan Cruz then distracts the referee while Josh Bodom repeatedly kicks The Iron Man in the crotch. He then slowly shoes the heavyweight out to ringside while Wolfgang slowly rolls back in. The Blonde Bomber is waiting though. The arrogant heel rolls up his opponent in to a School Boy. The tights are being pulled without the referee's knowledge. The three count is made. Muscle, Steel and Sex Appeal pick up a huge victory. The flamboyant team meet in the middle with a hug before their arms are raised. They make the wise decision to leave the ring as Joe Coffey steps back in to chase them off. As they reach the stage, Jennifer Louise is waiting to interview the winning pair. Nathan Cruz is first to pipe up to declare that everybody knows that they're the most ravishing tag team in the world however now is the time to prove that they're the finest in the ring as well. Josh Bodom calls out reigning EPW British Tag Team Champions; The C.C.K. Every day he hears that Chris Brookes and Kid Lykos are the people's champs when all he can see in front of him is the people's chump. He finishes by telling us all that it's time we put the gold around these gorgeous waists. Muscle, Steel and Sex Appeal have made a statement tonight. They are willing to bend the rules to get results and they have their eyes on the champions.

'Keep It 100' is heard over the speakers to a huge cheer around the Portsmouth Guildhall. Dahlia Black walks out with her EPW British Women's Championship over her shoulder. The beauty from New Zealand beat the very first champion of the modern era Nixon Newell two weeks ago to retain her gold. Things have been very quiet on who her next challenger will be. She declares that she is proud to wear the belt and every wrestler in the women's division to know that she is even more proud to represent every single one of them. Black then calls for them to come on out. They all walk out on to the stage with the babyfaces heading to the left side and the heels to the right. The reigning champion explains that despite their grudges, feuds and wars over the past year, every single one of them have exceeded the expectations that every one had of the division when it first launched. She informs them that she doesn't know who is next to challenge her however she will be proud to step in to the ring with any of the women that stand before her. The crowd give them all a standing ovation. Ranallo and McGuinness call her 'a champion we can all be proud of'. The mood sours when William Regal appears on the titantron from his office with Joe Hendry, Dave Mastiff, Dave Finlay and Robbie Brookside stood behind him. The commissioner explains that unfortunately he is the one who makes the decisions around here and he doesn't think any of them deserve a title match. He reveals that he will be bringing in external contenders to challenge Dahlia Black until one of them can prove that they are championship material. Regal then disrespectfully tells the women to remove themselves because it's time for the main event. They do so however they do not look happy. Security escort them all to the back whilst the broadcast team wonder how the boss can treat his women's division with such utter contempt.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Dave Mastiff
The first man out to the ring is neither one of the competitors. We are treated to an appearance from our EPW British Undisputed Champion; Mark Haskins. The Hellbent Anti-Hero is joined by Vicky Haskins as he decides to join the commentary team at ringside. They ask who he is backing. He answers by claiming that even if Zack Sabre Jr. can beat Dave Mastiff tonight, there is no way he will be able to either outwrestle or outsmart him one-on-one in the ring. The Technical Wizard is the first to make his entrance to the ring. He takes a moment to go face-to-face with Haskins at ringside before the music of Dave Mastiff interrupts the tense moment between the champion and potential challenge. The Bastard From The Black Country stomps down the aisle with a scowl on his face. He rubs his hands looking hungry to give his opponent a beating this evening. The bell rings once he steps through the ropes. Both men lock up. Mastiff's pure strength advantage comes in to play immediately when he throws the 190lb submission specialist across the ring. The brave technician from Kent locks up with the big man a second time however it is the same result. As the monster dares his opponent to lock up with him again, Sabre Jr. approaches and then suddenly locks on a Guillotine Choke. It looks like the big man might fade. Instead he thrusts Zack in to the turnbuckles and then hammers him with several close fisted punches to the gut. Mastiff then scoops the heavyweight up for a Running Powerslam. On the way down, The Technical Wizard counters in to his finishing submission; the Cross Armbreaker. The crowd are going nuts. He has it locked on in just under two minutes. The monster is in agony. He taps out to give Zack Sabre Jr. a quick victory. The underdog has done more than overcome the odds. He made super-quick work of The Bastard From The Black Country. Mastiff rolls out to ringside holding his arm. In the mean time, Mark Haskins is going nuts and is yelling at his next challenger who has his arm raised in the ring. We are then interrupted by the music of Joe Hendry. The Prestigious One has a microphone in hand to inform us that William Regal is of the opinion that what we just saw was 'a fluke victory' and he isn't in the business of allowing that to slide. Zack Sabre Jr. will have to beat Hendry as well if he wants to be the #1 contender. The submission specialist from Kent has no problem with that. He even holds open the rope to entice Joe Hendry to get in the ring.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Joe Hendry
This is The Prestigious One's first singles outing in English Pro Wrestling since his arrival. The grappler from Scotland has been acting as a colour commentator up until two weeks ago when he joined William Regal's corporate team. He gets straight to work by kicking his opponent in the gut when they go to lock-up. Hendry shows some aggression by delivering several stiff forearms before dropping him with an Arm-Wrench DDT. He continues on the offensive with a Running High Knee, a European Uppercut and a Fallaway Slam for a two count. Mark Haskins stands up from the commentary desk. He then slowly approaches the ring to cheer in Joe Hendry. The #1 contendership lies in his hands. The Prestigious One attempts his trademark move; the Olympic Slam. Sabre Jr. escapes mid-way through the execution. He lands on his feet and then rolls his opponent up in to a Backslide. The referee counts. Hendry kicks out at two. The two climb to their feet. The Technical Wizard blasts his opponent with a European Uppercut of his own which staggers the corporate representative. He then drops him with a Rolling Elbow before running the ropes for the Penalty Kick. Hendry ducks. He then scores with a Low Blow in to a School Boy. That should have been a DQ however Haskins had jumped up on to the apron to distract the official. He counts. It's only a near fall. Joe Hendry has posed more of a threat than Dave Mastiff. He hasn't been able to put Zack Sabre Jr. down yet though. The Prestigious One locks on the Ankle Lock. The submission is far away from the ropes. There is no way it will be a rope break. Sabre Jr. manages to reverse the move in to the Elevated Wrist Lock. His opponent drops to the floor. As he hits the canvas, the move is transitioned in to the Cross Armbreaker. Hendry cries out in pain and submits. Zack Sabre Jr. wins again. The Technical Wizard is the #1 contender. As soon as he finds his feet, he steps out of the ring and he goes face-to-face with Mark Haskins once again. What Sabre Jr. doesn't know is that Vicky Haskins is in possession of the EPW British Undisputed Championship. The red-headed vixen clobbers her husband's enemy across the back of the skull with the belt. The Hellbent Anti-Hero wastes no time in applying his finishing hold; the Low Sharpshooter. The show ends with Zack Sabre Jr. fading away whilst locked in the submission. He may have won twice tonight but he doesn't look like a winner here.

TK can’t seem to catch a break. Not sure how much time he has left to turn things around before it’s too late. It was a respectable effort on his part though.

Not sure what Gallagher will have to stay, though I doubt he’ll be announcement retirement.

Nice to see Bodom picking up some steam with the win and calling out the tag champs. I still think his earlier matches with the attitude he had then was pretty interesting to watch, but he’s still on my radar. Gotta give it to him and his partner for being honest when they say they’ll bend rules to get what they want.

Surprising call by Regal wanting to bring in outsiders over in-house talent to challenge for the women’s championship, but it can work if it helps those on the main roster to elevate their game…plus who knows what the unknown opponents can bring to the table.

You said it best, he picked up two wins, but didn’t look like much of a winner when the show came to a close. Wondering how Sabre Jr. will respond, though I got the feeling he won’t be alone for very long as I’m sure the common enemies factor will play a part sooner rather than later.
