-Showcase taping- Heath Slater comes out to start the Showcase portion of the show. While he wasn’t able to end the night with the Ironman Championship, overall he had a good night this past Sunday. With Starcade drawing near, many of those on the roster are struggling to figure out how to get on the card. The other day he was going over the XCW rule book to see if there was anything he could use to his advantage. He came across a rule that everyone in and who follows wrestling knows. He then asks the crowd when was the last time Wade Barrett defended his championship. He feels it’s been longer than 30 days, therefore he is calling out Barrett and challenging him to defend the championship tonight. While Slater doesn’t get Barrett, he does get a former world champion’s attention as Bret Hart joins him in ring. Hart does agree with Slater about the rule, however Barrett was excused from making the trip out here this evening. Since Slater is here, Hart does have a match for him, and he tells Wade Barrett to listen, or for someone inform him about. It’ll be Heath Slater vs Akuma of Team FIST, and whoever wins will face Wade Barrett next week in a mandatory title defence. Slater is pleased to hear this and thanks Bret for the match. Brian Kendrick def. a local competitor in a non-title match via submission with the captain’s hook. Following the bell Kendrick addressed the challenge that was put out to him by Bobby Roode at Full Metal. Kendrick informs Roode that he will accept Roode’s challenge on one condition, which is next week Roode defeats an opponent of his choosing. A post-show shot promo from Full Metal featuring the Dudleys is shown to the live crowd, which also airs with the show. The Dudleys are not pleased with not only the outcome of the match, but with how it went down. They feel insulted with the methods that were used by the champs to retain the gold. If they want to play the table game, the dudleys want to show the champs how it’s done. They challenge Damien Sandow and Dean Martin to a 2 out of 3 falls tables match. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin overhear this and remind the dudleys that the Motor City Machine Guns are the number one contenders. Bubba understands this, but he asks that Shane and Sabin to yield on their title shot for the time being, because this has become personal. Shane suggests that the Dudleys go for it at Breakdown, and he and Shelley will use their shot on the winner at Starcade. Both teams seem to be in agreement. Not shown to the live crowd, but when the show airs, Hutch Henries reports that Eric Bischoff has other ideas. He confirms the Motor City Machine Guns will face the champions at Starcade, whoever it may be. He will sign the two out of three falls tables match, but will be on next edition of the Action Zone, and that titles will not be on the line. Nick Watts w/James R. Kennedy def. a local competitor During the bout James R. Kennedy put over his client and states they have big plans for Starcade, but would not go into specifics. Watts won with a rope hung ddt. Heath Slater def. Akuma w/Icarus Icarus entered the ring out of desperation when it looked liked Akuma was in trouble, however he accidentally collided with Akuma and Slater took them both down with a double chartbuster before pinning Akuma for the win. The main show opens up with Eric Bischoff in the ring. Bischoff states that with Full Metal in the rear-view mirror, Starcade draws closer. At Full Metal the number one contender for the women’s championship was decided, which he requests the presence of both the winner of the match, as well as the reigning champion. Both of the Oedo Tai members make their way out together, wondering what the boss wants. Bischoff offers his congratulations to Act Yasukawa on the win, which means, as awkward as it may be for their group, two members of Oedo Tai will faceoff against each other for the championship. The thought of that got Bischoff thinking this past week, because he knows how much Act and Skyler like to raise the bar in the women’s division. He notes their paths have crossed before at some non-televised events, and the reviews were good. He began thinking how the two can get the opportunity to yet again raise the bar. An idea came to him last night and Bischoff states he is confident the two ladies will do just that and that he is willing to put his job as president and general manager of this company on the line if it bombs. He declares that Skyler Raye and Act Yasukawa will go head to head in a 60 minute ironman match, and it will be the main event of the evening. A bombshell of a decision made by Bischoff as both champion and challenger give him a look when it’s stated it will be the main event of the show after looking at each other when it was mentioned they will have the ring for an entire hour. Bischoff explains that his decision is by no means a knock on Harry Smith nor Wade Barrett, however when Act pulled down the match contract at Full Metal he knew the thought of Act and Skyler headling would be foolish not to give serious thought as both have proven to answer the call when given the ball. And when the idea of having them go at it in an ironman match came to mind, he knew he had his main event. Both Act and Skyler appear to like Bischoff’s way of thinking. Now that that’s decided Bischoff requests the ring to clear so the first match tonight can begin. Golden Ticket Qualifier Zack Ryder w/Big T vs Kevin Steen Steen didn’t wait for the opening bell and knocks Big T before he can step in the ring to join Ryder. Ryder is knocked down as Big T hits the floor. Steen’s on fire right out of the gate, and 15 seconds in Ryder’s on Steen’s shoulders and the former heavyweight champion connects with deep sea diverticulitis. Steen’s not done as he lifts of Ryder and connects with the package piledriver. Steen with the cover, Steen wins. Steen joins AJ Styles and CM Punk in the match, with three spots remaining. The broadcast team confirms that tonight’s main event will fill one of them as Matt Hardy takes on his brother Jeff Hardy. Steen looks hot as he calls for a mic. He address current champion Wade Barrett, as well as those who have qualified for the golden ticket match, and those who have yet to. He tells all of them to mark their colanders as Starcade is where the dreams of being the best in the world will go to die. Steen’s statement was to the point according to Don Callis. While Steen wasn’t successful inside hell in a cell, he likes the former world champion’s chances when the golden ticket is up for grabs. Bischoff’s announcement of the Ironman Match wasn’t the first decision he made today, as a segment shot earlier in the day is shown where Lana confronts Bischoff in his office. Lana brings up the triple threat match Rusev was in last month, however since then Rusev hasn’t gotten a chance to showcase his dominance, and Rusev is growing very tired of waiting. Lana adds that Bischoff wanted to use Rusev and the other two in said match, and Rusev wants to return the favour and make example out of someone tonight. Rusev makes the belt gesture, which Lana notices. Lana then asks Bischoff when was the last time the heavyweight title was defended, which Bischoff looks like an idea just came to him. Bischoff tells Lana to say no more, if Rusev feels he deserves a championship match then today’s his lucky day. He will grant their request and Rusev will face the heavyweight champion later tonight. Lana thanks Bischoff for the match before she and Rusev take their leave. Following a short commercial break Goldust makes his entrance. At Full Metal he was scheduled to face Alex Bryce, but for medical reasons the match was postponed and rescheduled for tonight. Goldust vs Alex Bryce Both men fought a simple game, though there was some uncertainty at one point Bryce executed an inverted atomic drop on Goldust, and the bizarre one complained it was low, but it was kosher in the eyes of referee Chris Truax. Goldust managed to turn the tables a couple minutes later, and when he did to see set Bryce up in the corner. Goldust asked if this counts as a low blow before running in to execute he shattered dreams. Bryce managed to pull himself out of the way and through the ropes at the last possible moment, causing Goldust to kick the corner buckle instead. Bryce is quick to act and conncets with a springboard dropkick. Bryce with the cover, and it’s enough for the win as Goldust tried to kickout but was not in time. Eric Bischoff has had a busy night so far, and it continues as Kana and Karen Sato enter his office. Before the ladies can say he would he states that he knows why they are here. He saw the ladder match at Full Metal and guesses they are here to object to Yoshiko’s interference. He guessed correctly as Karen calls this the biggest screwjob of all time as Kana would have won if that freak of nature, referring to Yoshiko, didn’t stick her nose in Kana’s business. Bischoff informs them that there’s nothing he can do about it as the referee’s decision in final, plus as far as he’s concerned he doesn’t blame Yoshiko’s actions. Kana attempts to take away Yoshiko’s vision, she takes away Kana’s chance at being number one contender, sounds like a fair trade off to him. However they are in luck. Earlier in the week Yoshiko contacted my office, explaining she had a feeling both Kana and Karen wouldn’t be pleased with what happened and would want some payback, at least that’s what he through she said. If both women are willing he will book a match between them at Starcade. Bischoff adds that with Starcade being what it is, he feels it shouldn’t be an ordinary match. He has a couple of ideas, however he is going to consult with the rest of the women’s locker room and see what they think. After all at one point or another both Kana and Yoshiko have had issues with the rest of the roster, so it feels fitting for him to get their input. Kana and Karen don’t like the sound of that, but Karen mentions one way or other they’ll get their revenge. Toni Storm vs Solo Darling Darling looks for a pre-match handshake, being in a good mood. Storm not only turns Darling down, but boots her hard in the mid-section and sets her up for the strong zero piledriver. Storm connects with it flawlessly. Storm sits on Darling while hooking the leg for the pinfall. Storm might not have been successful in her recent bid to become Intercontinental Champion, but Don Callis feels a win like this definitely keeps her in contention. When the show returns Rusev makes his way to the ring for singles action. Bischoff granted Rusev a championship match, and Rusev appears to be in the zone. Rusev awaits his opponent as Barrett’s theme plays next. After a moment or two there is no sign of Barrett. Barrett gets introduced again, but the ring announcer is cut off by Eric Bischoff, who appears on the video screen. Off to the side of the screen Natalya and Hutch Henries can be seen, but they aren’t involved with what the boss has to say. Bischoff apologizes to the fans, as well as to Rusev, for not being clear on this one. He explains that Wade Barrett is not here tonight, which means Barrett won’t be defending his heavyweight title against Rusev. However Bischoff is true to his word, Rusev will receive a heavyweight championship match tonight. It’s not against the XCW heavyweight champion Wade Barrett, but EPW Heavyweight Champion Pete Dunne. The crowd isn’t sure what to make of Bischoff’s announcement at first, though soon it is proven the boss isn’t bullshitting anyone as the sledgehammer wielding Brit steps through the curtain. Rusev has to quickly vacate the ring once Dunne enters, not wanting any of the weapon. Both Rusev and Lana yell at referee Amy Kanazki to get the sledge away from Dunne. The official actually manages to do so, which the live crowd doesn’t approve of, neither does Dunne at first, but he backs down when the law’s laid down. Jason Kronan mentions very few can get away with what the referee just did, but this isn’t a no disqualification match so she is correct in telling Dunne he can’t use it. EPW Championship Rusev w/Lana vs Pete Dunn On commentary both Jason Kronan and Don Callis feel that Rusev doesn’t have home field advantage as the crowd is firmly behind the Birmingham native, noting his fan base has stretched world wide. Don Callis adds that if it wasn’t for the internet, nobody this side of the Atlantic would know or care about him, and maybe half of the women’s roster. This not only doesn’t bother the challenger, but also fuels him. Dunne manages to start comeback after countering a Rusev rush attack with an ‘ave it forearm. Dunne continues with the offence until he gets a nearfall following a tiger suplex. Dunne goes off the ropes after Rusev kicked out, however he staggers off them as Lana quickly jabbed him in the back of the leg with the sledgehammer. She turns away to hide her action from the referee, and Rusev takes advantage with a bullplex. The challenge doesn’t waste anytime and follows up with the accolade. Rusev has it applied in the middle of the ring. Dunne has nowhere to go as Rusev keeps the pressure on. Dunne refuses to tap, but it looks like he may pass out the longer he’s in it. The referee checks the arm when there appears to be no movement from the champion. It falls once, it falls twice, it falls for a-Dunne manages to keep it up. Both Rusev and Lana can’t believe it. Dunne attempts to fire himself up before attempting an escape. Dunne manages to stand, though he’s a bit wobbley from being struck with the sledge hammer moments earlier. After getting to a standing position he throws himself backwards, taking Rusev with him. The hold’s broken and the champion looks to take advatange of the situation. He gets back to his feet before Rusev does and strikes up high repeatedly. Dunne goes for the ropes, but his leg gives out, causing him to fall to a knee. Rusev picks up Dunne and executes a release overhead german suplex, sending Dunne halfway across the ring. Dunne uses the corner ropes to pull himself up as the challenge sizes him up. Rusev rushes in and splashes Dunne across the back. Rusev turns Dunne around before backing up and running in again. Nobody home as Dunne moves out of the way when Rusev takings a leapding turn and hits the corner hard. Dunne grabs hold of Rusev as he feeds out and connects with a pedigree. Dunne with the cover, Dunne retains the gold. Eric Bischoff doesn’t looks pleased with the outcome of that match as he is shown in his office with a look of concern. Both Hutch Henries and Natalya both feel the boss should not be concerned with Rusev losing if the fans liked what they saw, and from those two could tell it appears the live crowd did. Bischoff gives them that and asks them what brings them by before the last match began. Hutch explains that he and Natalya were talking about the Starcade main event Ironman match, which both feel that is good decision, however Natalya brings up with the scheduling of the ladder match at Full Metal she wasn’t able to give the current champion a title defence, and with a such an import match taking place at Starcade she feels it would not be right to have Skyler Raye wait that long to defend her title since it would have been passed 30 days, which Bischoff can’t recall the belt being defended after it was won. He asks what Natalya what she would like to do, which not to show personal favouritism, but she would like to challenge the champion. Hutch Henries mentions that he why he is here, being a neutral observer to the women’s division and states that Natalya has been champion before and he feels she would be suitable to main event Starcade if the current champion cannot defend her title successfully before hand. That and Natalya was robbed out of a chance of qualifying for the ladder match, noting Kana’s use of illegal mist to the eyes that the referee didn’t see. Bischoff thinks it over before granting the request. Next week on the Action Zone Natalya will challenge Skyler Raye, and immediately following the match there will be a contract signing for the Ironman match. Still to come tonight, Jeff Harry takes on his brother Matt in a Golden Ticket qualifying match. Jeff’s stretching in the hallway when a member of the backstage crew passes him by. Jeff gets the guy’s attention and asks him if he’s seen Matt, which the guy responds he hasn’t seen Matt all day. Jeff looks a bit concerned because neither has he. Jeff thanks the guy anyway. Before things shift back to the ring, Pete Dunne is showing leaving the arena. Before he can get to the parking lot his path gets blocked by Kevin Steen. Steen gives Dunne a sarcastic clap, congratulating the ‘champ’ on his win, though Steen states that Rusev isn’t the monster that he once was and that Dunne would have gotten destroyed if he was here during his last run as champion. Dunne glances at the sledge hammer that is over his shoulder, which Steen tells Dunne while it isn’t a bad thing to carry an equalizer like that, Steen doesn’t need one. In fact if their bosses made it happen he feels he feels it could take down EPW’s powerhouse Damian O’Connor in half the time it took to beat Rusev. Dunne finds that amusing, even more so that it’s coming from a guy who, unlike Dunne, is a former champion. Steen states that will soon change, which if Dunne wants to see what he means he suggests Dunne check the secondary market for a ticket to Starcade so Dunne can be there in person to witness Steen claiming the golden ticket, which then it will be only a matter of time before he cashes in and regains the heavyweight championship of the world. Security personal move in and ask if there is a problem. Both men stare each other down before Dunne says there’s no problem, with Steen saying the same before stepping aside to allow Dunne to leave. Blayde w/Oedo Tai members Kris Wolf, Asrial Major, and Serena Moon vs Taka Michinoku Pete Dunne isn’t the only import talent to see action this evening as Taka Michinoku makes his way to the ring for singles action. While Dunne has some experience competing in North American, Taka’s outranks that of the brit. This time he’s on his own, no Funaki or other members of Kai En Tai. He is known and welcomed by those in attendance as he hits the ring after his opponent does the same. Taka’s pushing mid-40s, but Don Callis mentions Taka’s been very active in Japan and many have stated that time is still on Taka’s side, which Blayde finds this out, though manages to keep up with the veteran, and after Taka taking Blayde out near the broadcast position with suicide dive Callis asks Jason Kronan what year it is because Taka’s flying flying around like it’s 1997.. Not long after the action returns to the ring Taka goes for the Michinoku Driver. Blayde escapes and counters with a ddt. Both men are down until the referee gets to a count of about seven w2hen Blayde gets an arm across Taka’s chest which results in a two count. Blayde gets back to his feet before Taka, who is still shaken up a bit from the ddt. He has few seconds before Taka can get back to his feet prepares to strike with a superkick. Taka catches the foot, Blayde goes for an enziguri, Taka duck and avoids the contact. Before Blayde can attempt to regain his footing Taka already has a hold of him and sets him up for and connects with michinoku driver. Taka with the pin, and the win. After getting his arm raised by the referee, Taka calls for a mic, and asks Kris Wolf to translate as the other two Oedo Tai members help Blayde back to his feet. Taka first puts over his opponent, saying he would welcome another opportunity to face him again. He then addresses the mega event coming up known as Starcade. Taka is no stranger to various promotions’ major events, and he wants to showcase what he can do on XCW’s grand stage. He puts out a challenge to one of XCW’s new champions, calling out Nick Watts to defend his title. After saying his piece Taka is about to leave the ring, but Blayde stops him. Blayde’s cool with Taka wanting a shot at the Internet title, but he’s sure he speaks for a number of fans when he asks Taka to do one thing for him first. It’s been awhile since he’s seen it and asks Taka if he can call out Nick Watts again, but this time do the evil thing. Taka’s not sure what Blayde meant at first, but he clues in quickly and cuts a shot promo spot calling out Nick Watts in Japanese, before ending it in English saying “Because I am eeeviillll.” Blayde plays the role of Funaki and adds the “Indeed” part. When the show returns from the final commercial break of the evening, a clip of Jeff Hardy heading towards the gorilla position moments ago is shown. He looks unsure and can be heard wondering where Matt is as there’s been no sight of him all day. Jeff makes his intro first. Matt gets introduced, but no sign of him. He gets introduced a second time, still no sign. Before the ring announcer can try again, Matt’s V1 video plays on the video screen. Before the ‘connecting…’ part can finish, the image on the screen disappears with a broken glass effect, and the Deletion Anthem plays in its place. Matt appears on the stage and makes his way ringside. Don Callis wonders if Matt is trying to play mind games with his brother, or Matt’s marbles are still lost. Golden Ticket Qualifier Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy After the bell sounds Jeff tries to get an explanation, but isn’t getting one. Jeff calls for a mic and again asks what Matt’s trying to prove. Jeff understands Matt has a different way of thinking things these days, and that’s fine, but he’s starting to think there’s more to it than he thinks. He brings up Matt attacking Senor Benjamin after a their match with the Motor City Machine Guns at Seasons Beat, Matt’s choice of words backstage at Survival, nothing’s adding up and he wants answers. Matt takes the mic and informs his brother he will give Jeff the answers that Jeff seeks, in due time. But for now they must fight. Jeff looks like he doesn’t want to have anything to do with this and goes to leave, but Matt prevents him and the fight is on. Nothing gets after some time as the bell sounds with them trading blows on the outside. They stop and the match is ruled a draw, which they didn’t have a standard limit to begin with as the match was introduced as being scheduled for one fall with tv time remaining, which at the time Jason Kronan commented it’s been a while since he’s heard that, which if he recalls correctly people called Don the Jackal around then, which his broadcast partner found a little humour in that. Callis finds no laughing matter in Matt’s reaction to the decision as Matt calls Jeff a fool who ruined his plan. Jeff takes exception to Matt’s comments and shoves him. Matt retaliates and attacks Jeff until he’s taken down and locked in the ice pick. Matt can be heard calling Jeff and obsolete mule as the hold’s applied to close the show. With the show off the air, the cameras pick up extra officials coming out in attempt to get Matt to release the hold. This gets brought up and airs on the Showcase, which Matt eventually lets go. The crowd’s unsure of what to think as Matt returned backstage. |

- The Skyler/Act Ironwoman match is a game changer that's for sure. Definitely hoping Yasukawa wins that for sure. - Brutal finish for Zack Ryder. Kevin Steen is an early favourite to win the Golden Ticket in my honest opinion. - Good to see Toni Storm return to form. She's a great addition to the Intercontinental division. - Solid win for Alex Bryce. Goldust is getting on now. How much has he got left in the tank realistically? - The EPW World Undisputed Champion Tour rolls on. Tough break for Rusev but Pete Dunne is on fire. - Thought the conclusion of Blayde/Taka was a little bizzare but hey, that's XCW for ya! ![]() - Can see this Matt vs. Jeff feud culminating at Starrcade in some form of gimmick match. |
