-Showcase taping-
Bobby Roode def. Paul London
Kendrick joined the broadcast team for this one, wanting to see if his former tag partner in multiple promotions can put Roode in his place. It didn’t happen, and after the bell Kendrick got on the mic and stated he is a man of his word. Roode won tonight, and Kendrick will except Roode’s challenge for a shot at the Canadian National Championship.

The Action Zone opens up with Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel. Jericho briefly brings up his win at Full Metal, proving once and for all that he is the alpha in this business, which brings him to his guest tonight. There is only one man who Jericho feels is worthy of being mentioned in the conversation of who is the greatest of all time other than himself, and he knows the people feel the same way about his guest, The Rock. The Rock hits the ring and he extends his hand to Jericho. Jericho accepts it, though the Rock tells Jericho that if Jericho feels he is the alpha of wrestling, that is his opinion, which The Rock mentions he knows some people out there feel Jericho is indeed the best, while some may say The Rock is. He sees a fan with a Kevin Steen shirt in the audience and says someone out there thinks Steen is the man. He likes that the people can form their own opinion, and The Rock won’t challenge Jericho on his opinion because The Rock is here to signally the end of an era. The Rock looked back at his match with Brian Kendrick, and while it wasn’t bad the Rock feels he could have done better. Rock doesn’t want to use age an excuse, after all he is still in great shape and can still go, but this isn’t the attitude era and the competition these days has no problem with stepping up when opportunity presents itself. He’s had a wild right, but he feels the time is right to step aside. He can say what many haven’t, and that’s win their last match and leave on their own. He doesn’t want to take up to much time by bringing up some his past moments, but jokes that he could easily do so if that’s what the people would rather see instead. Jericho reminds the Rock that they have had many battles in their career, and while they debate of who has the better catch phrases may never be over between the to as far as the opinion of the people go, he says it was an honour to face a talent like him. Jericho extends his hand, but before the Rock can take it, they are interrupted by the sound of “Aweeesommme.” The Miz comes out, deciding to join the party. The Miz states that today is a day for celebration. Celebrating the successful career that the Rock has had, and he, like Jericho and the rest of the people here, wants to wish him well. The Miz adds that if there is one negative to find in this it’s that it didn’t happen sooner. People like The Rock who show up only when it is convenient for them, and when they do it pushes the more deserving bunch down. The Miz knew with Rock coming back he would lose some tv time so he made himself available for other entertaining projects, while continuing to stay relevant in the world title picture. Granted with The Rock hanging up the boots that means he has one less problem to worry about, and if Jericho can do the same then the world will be a better place, and an easier one for The Miz to live and compete in. The Miz calls Jericho the safe bet in wrestling. Whenever a champion doesn’t have a suitable challenger lined up, just call up Y2J, he’s been to the dance before, he’ll do and the fans will like it. And when the Rock was in his prime the Rock headlined every other pay per view, while the deserving guys were left on the undercard. The Miz admits he was once a fan of the Rock, he was once one of the people, these days as far as the Rock goes, he can’t stand him. He tells the Rock to get the hell out his ring and stick to making second rate movies. The Rock thinks about it for a moment before telling The Miz he has a point. The Rock has had it better than most, but that’s because he earned the opportunities. He’s done it all and he does not need to be here to prove anything. He keeps coming back because of the people. Miz asks Rock if he’s done yet, before telling him to exit stage that way, pointing to the entryway. Jericho doesn’t like what’s going on, but The Rock tells Jericho it’s alright. The Rock is willing to leave without incident, though before he can leave The Miz tells him to hold up for a moment. He tells the people this is where they ask, beg, and plead for their hero for one more match. He gets the fans going to chant ‘one more match’ which he joins in on. The Miz explains as good of a competitor Brian Kendrick is, that’s now how the Rock should go out. The Miz asks The Rock if he feels he is good at what he does on the big screen, is he a good story teller? If so The Miz has one he wants The Rock to hear, and it’s a true story. Last year at Starcade was what many called the beginning of the end for the Miz. Since that day Miz went on one of the biggest losing streaks of all time, and whenever it looked like he caught a break it, wasn’t meant to be. The hell in a cell match might not have ended in his favour, but the Miz feels his comeback is just about complete, but one thing is missing. He needs to make up for last year’s embarrassment, and if The Rock is planning on leaving then he tells The Rock to not only give the people what they want, but to give him what he wants, and that’s Miz’s rightful shot at eternal greatness. The Miz tells The Rock that if he says no, then everything the ever said, anything the Rock has ever did, everything the Rock has ever stood for, all of it is a lie. The Miz knows that despite what the Rock said moments ago, he knows The Rock’s ego will not allow the so-called great one to say no. He asks if the Rock will give him what he wants, what he deserves, but he can finish his statement, the Rock puts his hand close to the Miz’s mouth. The Rock tells the Miz to say no more, he understands loud and clear what The Miz wants. Rock asks the fans if they want to see one more match. Jericho states that it sounds like to him that the people want it. Jericho asks the people if they want it, encouraging them to be louder about it. The Rock takes in the peoples’ opinion before telling The Miz he accepts the challenge. The Miz is pleased with what he hears before turning to Jericho, telling him that he knew Rocky couldn’r resist. When he turns back around The Rock grabs him and connects with a rock bottom. The crowd pops for it and Rock picks up the mic and gives The Miz a free tip, only two people in this business have earned the right to get away with interrupting the great one. The first is the Mick Foley, and the other is Chris Jericho, and don’t forget it. The Rock finishes the segment off by delivering the if you smell what the rock is cookin’ line.

When the show returns a scene shot earlier in the day is shown as Bubba Ray and D-Von talk with Jeff Hardy about what happened last week between Jeff and his brother Matt. Even though they have had their differences, they Dudleys have respect for both Hardys and are concerned with what they saw. Even though they got their own problems to deal with tonight, the Dudleys inform Jeff they are here to help the brothers out if need be. Jeff thanks them, but for now he feels it might be best to just have some space from Matt.

Golden Ticket Qualifier
Jack Swagger w/Jim Cornette vs Tye Dillinger

Dillinger’s reign as the current Ironman Champion came into play as Swagger went to pin him following a gutwrench powerbomb, only be pushed away by Zack Ryder. Ryder had referee Amy Kanazki with him and she made the three count for Ryder. Big T grabbed the Ironman belt from the time keeper’s position and took off with the new champ, before Swagger could get his hands on Ryder. Fortunately for him, there was no bell called for by match official Eddington James, which Cornette pointed that out. Don Callis questions the no-call of Ryder’s interference by the referee, even though Ryder didn’t do much, as the straps came down before Swagger finished off Dillinger with the ankle lock for the submission win. Swagger’s recovered from his loss to Sami Zayn with an important win, sky rocking himself into heavyweight title contention as he joins CM Punk, AJ Styles, and Kevin Steen in the golden ticket ladder match with two spots remaining.

A shot from earlier in the day is shown as Eric Bischoff speaks backstage with the new Intercontinental Champion, Kei. Bischoff congratulates her on winning the title and informs her to be prepared because she will defend the title at Starcade. No opponent has been decided yet, noting not only is the roster filled with talent who would love to take what she has, but notes the free agent talent pool is full of talent that is hungry for a chance to make an impact. He will do his best to come to a decision before the big day, however she tells him to take his time, given the importance of Starcade, she wants whoever Bischoff throws in front of her to have the same passion for the sport as she does. Bischoff likes what he hears and says he’ll be in touch,

Hutch Henries catches up with Jack Swagger and Jim Cornette, bringing up Swagger’s win, which almost didn’t happen with the appearance of Zack Ryder. Cornette admits there was a little luck on their side there, but he gives credit to referee Eddingon James for clueing in as to what was happening. If Zack Ryder wants the Ironman title that’s fine with them, Jack Swagger is a world class athlete and is destined for bigger and better things, and it doesn’t get much bigger than looking up in the middle of the ring at Starcade and seeing the contract for a future heavyweight title match. He tells Hutch there is no need to remind him of who is all in the match so far, this isn’t Cornette’s first rodeo. Swagger states it doesn’t matter who him who has quailed, and who else will join him. The fact of the

Golden Ticket Qualifier
Mike Hart vs Alex Bryce

In the second of three qualifying bouts this evening marks a return of sorts as Mike Hart hits the ring. Don Callis reminds the fans at home of Hart’s previous stint teaming with TJ Wilson and Harry Smith. Eric Bischoff proving once again that XCW is the land of opportunity where a win tonight for the third generation wrestler not only a contract, but a spot in what would without a question be the biggest match of his career. Hart stops by the table to shake hands with Don Callis before stepping through the ropes. When Alex Bryce heads towards the ring Jason Kronan who he would give the edge to in this one. Callis notes the experience factor is Hart’s, getting his start in 2001. While Bryce has only a few years under his belt he’s no stranger to keeping up with some of the bigger names in the sport, one notable feather his in cap is two wins against Kenney Omega on Omega’s turf in Japan, so this one could be too close to call. During the course of the bout Goldust is shown observing from backstage. He’s been no stranger of Bryce’s as of late. Bryce comes out on top in this one, putting Hart’s hope of a successful return on ice and ending this one with a reverse brainbuster. Don Callis mentioned post bell he though Bryce was going to take a page of out of Goldust’s playbook and strike with the curtain call, but that wasn’t the case.

After that observational comment, the broadcast team brings up a match last week which afterwards saw Taka Michinoku challenge Internet Champion Nick Watts. Watts is here tonight to address the challenge that was put out to him. Things shift backstage where Watts addresses the challenge, alongside his manager James R. Kennedy. Watts heard what Taka had to say last week, as well as his match. Watts admits he was little bit impressed with Taka’s efforts, but not impressed enough. Taka reminds him of another man, a man who he humiliated and retired. To him Taka is nothing more than a Japanese and dinosaur aged version of Christopher Bishop. Watts doesn’t understand what it is with those who have had their turn in the spot light, but refuse to stay away. It’s because guys like The Rock, guys like Goldust, guys like Taka who refuse to understand their time is up. What’s next? Is Watts going to wake up tomorrow and get bumped from a show just so Hulkamania can run wild one more time? Watts uses this to justify everything he has done so far. The aging veterans and legends of the spot love to take from those who rightfully deserve their time, which Watts will not stand idle while anyone young or old takes his spot. If Taka wants to return to North American and issue a challenge, then come Starcade he will make sure Taka regrets that decision. Kennedy tell Taka that after the maniacal one gets through with him, Taka will have no choice but to take the walk of shame home. This takes us to break.

When the show returns Eric Bischoff is shown talking on the phone in his office. He’s speaking with someone about tonight’s main event involving women’s champion Skyler Raye and Natalya when Rob Rage is shown entering the officeBischoff tells the person on the other end he’ll call him back. Rage mentions that Bischoff asked for him, which Bischoff confirms that is true. Bischoff wants to clear the air about what happened at Full Metal, explaining he wasn’t trying to get on Rage’s bad side, he was trying to protect not only his interest, but also Rage’s well being. Bischoff has seen plenty hell in a cell matches in his time and when the action leaves the cell he knows there is a good chance of something going wrong and the last thing he wouldn’t want is seeing someone take a Mick Foley style plunge on his watch. He asks how Rage is feeling by the way. Rage admits he was shaken up from the fall, but he’s fine now. He asks Bischoff if he has anything in store for him for Starcade, because Rage was looking at the card tonight and he noticed that remaining spots for the Golden Ticket match are to be filled tonight. Rage is a bit offended by the fact of his name being not on tonight’s card, considering he won the match last year and the championship when he cashed in. Bischoff understands, however he states that he couldn’t wait to find out what Rage’s condition would be. Bischoff does tell Rage he will find Rage a match for Starcade. He reminds the former champion that he has to make sure other factors of the show are taken care of first, but he promises that that Supernova of Superstars will be on the card. Rage is fine with this news…for now.

Golden Ticket Qualifier
Chuck Taylor w/Team FIST vs Blayde w/Oedo Tai members Act Yasukawa, Kris Wolf, Asrial Major, Serena Moon

Both announcers talked about the women’s championship match that is still to come later tonight, which that explains why Skyler Raye isn’t out here for this one while the rest of the Oedo Tai are in Blayde’s corner. On commentary Don Callis mentioned that despite the loss last week to Taka Michinoku, his efforts impressed Eric Bischoff and earned him a chance to qualify for a match for the chance to compete for a title he’s never held.
Taylor found himself in trouble and in a daze as Blayde went to the top rope. Taylor fell into referee Jimmy Korderas, momentarily taking the official’s attention away from the action. During that short time Emma Matthews knocked Blayde off the top, though her choice of action cost her those who were in Blayde’s corner attack her like a pack of wolves. Taylor notices this and tells the official to do something about it, but it’s on the outside. Matthews tries get inside the ring to safety, and pulls on the referee’s legs out of desperation. They pull her back to the outside, along with the referee. Taylor takes Akuma and Icarus to do something, which they look hesitant to get involved. This annoys Taylor and he turns his attention back to his opponent, only to take a superkick. Blayde with the cover, no referee to count as Korderas is in the process of pulling himself out of the pile. Akuma quickly slide in, grabbing a hold of Blayde and setting him up for Akuma’s Tenchi Crash. Icarus followed and came off the top and connected with leg drop as Akuma connected with his move. Meanwhile Asrial Major is the first of them to notice the official got dragged into it, and she convinces the others to ease up momentarily. They don’t notice Akuma and Icarus’s involvement as they were quick to act, and put Taylor on top of Blayde before exiting. Akuma and Icarus quickly approach the women and attempt to get them to back off as Matthews wasn’t looking to good from taking a four on one beatdown. Korderas looks like he is about to eject everyone but he notices the pin in the ring and chooses to focus on that instead. He slides in quickly and makes the count. Chuck Taylor can thank his buddies when he comes to as he’s going to Starcade with the win. The Oedo Tai members have a feeling something fishy happened as Akuma returns to the ring to pull Taylor from the ring, while Icarus helps Matthews to her feet and away from the ringside area. Bischoff appears on the video screen and tells everyone to stop right there. Bischoff explains up until the women showed why their division is both highly competitive, yet can still be a thorn to his side. Due to Emma Matthews’ interference and Oedo Tai’s actions which lead to the actions of those two men, referring to Akuma and Icarus, he is disqualifying both Blayde and Chuck Taylor. However Bischoff adds that before all of that happened he liked what he saw, and he believes if the excess baggage can keep their hands to themselves then both competitors can have a fight where their efforts are worthy enough to consider themselves possible contenders for the heavyweight title. With that being said he will give them both another change to qualify for the golden ticket ladder match. He states that next week is the annual March Breakdown event, and unlike in previous years, this year’s presentation won’t be a pay per view, but a televised special. He adds that this special event will be in Las Vegas, and their match won’t be an ordinary match. Bischoff doesn’t state what the match will be, however he tells them that they will play a little roulette, and wherever the wheel stops will determine what the match will be. He does make one thing perfectly clear, outside interference of any kind will not be tolerated.

Standing by backstage with Hutch Henries is Alex Bryce, who earlier one qualified for the golden ticket ladder match. Bryce knows that this is a moment that many dream of being in. All one has to do is climb the ladder and pull down the contract for a future championship match, but as we’ve seen in past years that’s easier said than done. When asked about the favourite names that have been confirmed for the match so far Goldust enters the picture. Goldust congratulates him on making it this far, and withes him good luck at Starcade, the show where one’s performance can cement one’s legacy. Goldust wishes it was he who had the opportunity to have such an important role on the big stage, however he’s impressed with what he’s seen from Bryce’s career and like’s his chances. Goldust reminds Bryce that in addition to the thousands in attendance and the millions watching at home, he too will be watching. Goldust takes his leave without saying another word. Bryce takes off in the other direction, not having anything else to say.

Before Hutch sends things back to ringside he plugs a match that will take place one this week’s show goes off the air, noting that the cameras will still be rolling for this coming week on the Showcase, shown in its entirety, we could witness a major change in Starcade’s lineup. Wade Barrett is set to defend his gold against an unlikely challenger in the former of Heath Slater. Slater isn’t available for comment at this time as he is preparing for the big match, however he waves in Steven Richards to talk about what this match means for both competitors. Richards feels that this is one that could very well set that tone for his bout with Harry Smith, should he retain tonight that is. On paper it would be foolish to bet against Barrett. Everyone knows how Barrett got to this point, which includes holding on to all the championship belts along the way, that’s an amazing accomplishment. However he warns the gamblers out there not to go all in on Barrett. Nothing with what is at stake, but the timing of it, we could see a different Heath Slater. Richards has been in the underdog role himself, he knows what Slater is going through. As we all know Richards has defied the odds and became the number one guy, and if he can do it he sees no reason why Slater can’t do the same.

2 out of 3 falls tables match
Damien Sandow and Dean Martin vs The Dudleys

This match is result of what went down at Full Metal where the Dudleys picked up the win by disqualication by way of Bubba Ray being put through a table. The tag titles are not on the line, but the Dudleys are out for revenge. The champs managed to strike first as Sandow battled with D-von and sent him into the time keeper’s position, taking out the table that the bell was on in the process. Referee Justin Kronan didn’t notice the broken at first, but after a few seconds he did and awards the Dudleys the first fall. Bubba Ray tied it several minutes later, following a 3D to Martin, by way of the D-von feeding Sandow to him and connecting with a sitout powerbomb off the top rope and through a table. With the score tied and Sandow out of the way, the Dudleys feel that they can finish this one. They go to the outside and get not one, but two tables. They stack them on the outside against the ring, one on top of the other. D-von tells Bubba to hold up and he comes back from under the ring with lighter fluid. The Dudleys mean business for being embarrassed at Full Metal, and they look to repay the gesture in kind. Don Callis states that if the fire marshal is watching he has nothing to do with this. Just before D-Von can set the tables ablaze the lights in the arena go out. The broken glass and piano opening of Matt Hardy’s theme begins to play, and after the spoke of Hardy vowing to delete, the Dudleys look at each other, wondering what is going on. After a few more seconds Hardy strikes Bubba from behind, taking him out with a chair. D-Von turns around and takes a chair shot up high. Both Jason Kronan, Don Callis, and the referee have no idea what Hardy’s doing out here. Neither does Dean Martin, who slowly made his way back to his feet after the lights came back on following the assault. Hardy looks at Martain and gives him his delete gesture. Martain looks like he wants nothing to do with Hardy, however he changes his mind as Hardy continues his delete chant while pointing at Bubba. As Martain moves Bubba into position, Hardy lights both tables ablaze, letting out a “Yaaaaaaazzzzz” after he does do. Martin lifts Bubba up and puts him through both burning tables with a powerbomb. The referee call for the bell, Hardy states that the sight before him is “Wonderful” before he sinks against one of the corners. The champions are ruled the winners of this one. Don Callis mentions this match didn’t have any benefit to Matt or his brother, and wonders what motivation or reasoning he had for getting involved. Jason Kronan meanwhile questions if it’s best not questioning what screws, if any, are left in Matt Hardy’s head, considering how downhill and unpredictable Matt’s way of thinking has been the past few months. Callis gives his broadcast partner that one before asking what Jeff will think of Matt’s actions tonight, if he even still cares.

Following the break, cameras have caught up with the new Ironman Champion Zack Ryder at an airport. He gets through security without an issue, however Big T is being given a difficult time. As Big T pleads his case that he’s clean, on the other side of the gate Sami Zayn grabs one of Ryder’s bags and knocks him down with it. A referee is present and makes the count as TSA security holds Big T back, preventing him from making the save. Zayn grabs the belt and takes off. Big T’s had enough and knocks down whoever is in his way and attempts to catch Zayn.

Women’s Championship
Natalya vs Skyler Raye

Whoever comes out of this one with the title will face #1 contender Act Yasukawa at Starcade in a 60-minute Ironman match with the gold on the line. Act’s present at ringside, as are the rest of the Oedo Tai faction, as the contract signing for Starcade’s main event will take place post-bell. Before the bell sounds to start the match Eric Bischoff joins those at ringside, with a second referee. Bischoff instructs referee Jimmy Korderas to keep an eye on those that are in the champion’s corner, and if they make any acts of aggression towards the challenger then his job will be to disqualify the champion and award the belt to the challenger. The Oedo Tai members don’t like the fact that the boss feels the need to have them watched, however on commentary Bischoff explains his decision, stating while he doesn’t believe there is any hostility between them and Natalya he didn’t wanted to take any chances and protect the investment. While they keep their noses out of the match directly, they don’t standby idle either as they notices Charlotte has made her way ringside. The group gets the feeling her intentions aren’t good. Bischoff notices her as well, especially as she confronts Bischoff, demanding to know why Natalya should get a shot tonight over her. Bischoff explains she had her chance at Full Metal and she lots. She then gets confronted by the others and she’s feeling pretty heated. She takes a swing a swing at the #1 contender, which turns out to be a huge mistake as is quickly becomes four on one. Charlotte manages to get away from them however and retreats to higher ground. Meanwhile Natalya has Skyler in the Sharpshooter. It’s a struggle, but Skyler manages to make it to the ropes for the break. Natalya breaks the hold before pulling Skyler towards the middle of the ring, though before Natalya can go with something Skyler manages catch her with a small package. Natalya kicks out in time. Following the kickout Natalya rushes in with a lariat. She gets nothing but air as Skyler avoids the contact and gets behind Natalya to execute a bridging german suplex. Skyler holds on for the pin, Natalya can’t kickout in time, Skyler retains the gold.

Following the bell Bischoff can be heard telling nearby crew members to get the table set up. The show takes its final break of the evening, the contract signing for Starcade’s main event is next.

When the show returns, footage of what went down in the ring just as the show went to break is shown. Natalya clearly wasn’t pleased with herself, being on the losing end of this one. The broadcast team agrees that one day she’ll get another chance at the championship, but understandably to main event Starcade, that chance doesn’t come by often enough to ease the sting. Still she shakes the champ’s hand and wishes her good luck before leaving the ring. Inside the ring, things are setup for the contract signining. Both competitors of said match as present, as is the rest of their group. Bischoff reminds them of what awaits them. They will wrestle for one hour, and whoever picks up the most falls wins the match and the championship. Pins, submissions, as well as countouts and disqualifications will count to the grant total. He brings up last year’s 30-minute ironman bout between Trish Stratus and Kana went the distance and was tied 3-3 when time expired. In that one the match was ruled a draw, which his knows wasn’t not a popular decision. Bischoff mentions however it was the right call, making the comparison of unlike hockey, in wrestling 60 minutes means 60 minutes. As what with what happened last year if the time expiries with the score tied then it will end as such. However given the competitiveness of both participants in the match he won’t be surprised if it ends up being a non-issue anyway. Bischoff asks both of them if either of them have any questions, if not he tells the challenger to sign first. Before Act can do so, Skyler stops her. Skyler brings up what Bischoff said about what will happen in case of a tie when the house is up. Skyler mentions that if this was any other event she’d be fine with that, however Starcade is the event of the year. Just like the Super Bowel or the Stanley Cup finals, at Starcade you go big or go home. She states she would rather lose the title in extra time than keep it on a draw. Bischoff likes the attitude the champion is displaying before asking Act if she feels the same way. Both competitors, as well as the fans, are on the same page. Bischoff states he has a change of heart and states this match must have a winner. With that being said Act signs the contract. Skyler follows suit, and it’s official. The show comes to a stare down between champion and challenger.

As the ring clears, Heath Slater hits the ring. It was confirmed at the last Showcase taping that Slater would get shot at Wade Barrett, bringing up the fact it has been some time since the champ has defended the gold. He won a contender’s match against Akuma to earn the shot, which along with the Roode/London match earlier on, will air in its entirety on the upcoming Showcase. Barrett makes his entrance next, and when the referee holds up the championship belt Slater swipes it and holds it up front of Barrett, telling Barrett this is his time now. Barrett let’s Slater say his piece before the match begins.

World Heavyweight Championship
Heath Slater vs Wade Barrett
Slater came to fight tonight, looking to pull of what many would call an upset. Slater managed to pick up a close nearfall are ducking a pull-in bullhammer and countering with a chartbuster. Barrett managed to battle back and went for the bull hammer a second time, and again Slater managed to avoid the contact, ducking and running moving past him. Slater leaped to the second rope and took to the air, however Barrett turned in time and this time the bull hammer found its mark. It's lights out for Slater as Barrett pins him. Barrett retains.
