-Showcase taping- Bobby Roode def. Ross Stevens w/Jim Cornette Taka Michinoku def. Ryan Adams w/Jared Perry and Hayden Nelson During the bout Nick Watts phoned in his thoughts on his upcoming match with Taka. He’s watched some of Taka’s recent matches in Japan before coming back to North America, and normally he would feel insulted that Taka is going to waste Watts’ valuable time, but he’s not bothered by that as it will give himself not only a good pay day, but also some stock to the Japanese wrestling scene. During the conversation, Taka won with the Michinoku Driver. Watts finishes up by telling Taka to enjoy the moment right now, because at Starcade Taka will be staring at the lights once he gets done with him. TJ Rage def. Chris Sabin Damien Sandow attempted to interfere, but he was spotted by Sabin, and by the referee, and dropped down from the apron before he could be engaged. The distraction allowed TJ to recover, and he connected with a spear once Sabin turned around. Rage pinned Sabin and picked up the win. Sandow feels satisfied with how things turned out he leaves the ringside area post-bell. The main show of what is usually a mid-month ppv but this year is a televised special, opens up with Eric Bischoff in his office, and with him are CM Punk, Paul Heyman, and Kevin Steen. Bischoff informs them that tonight’s main event will see CM Punk taking on Kevin Steen, and in keeping with the theme of the evening, they too will have Bischoff’s roulette wheel play a role in their match. They are standing in front of an updated version of Bischoff’s roulette wheel, which resembles one seen on the game show The Price is Right. Bischoff tells Heyman to spin the wheel, which Heyman reluctantly does so. It comes to a stop on the space that reads “Guest Referee.” Bischoff thinks it over for a moment before informing them that the guest referee will be one of their opponents in the Golden Ticket ladder match happening at Starcade, which one exactly he isn’t sure yet, but he’ll inform them both once he knows. Intercontinental Tournament Toni Storm vs Emma Matthews w/ Icarus and Akuma vs Kim Dawson Both semi-final bouts will be under triple threat format. Dawson’s advancement past the first round some would call an upset as she defeated the currently IWF Women’s Champion to qualify. Despite being a call-up entrant, Matthews and Storm were aware of her MMA background and opted to double team her right at the opening bell. Eventually Dawson managed to fight off the numbers and got Matthews in an ankle lock. Matthews came close to tapping, but the hold was broken before she could do so when Storm striuck Dawson in the back of the head with a polish hammer. Storm followed up with her strong zero piledriver. With the win, Storm advances to the finals. Eric Bischoff is in his office with both Blayde and Chuck Taylor. Bischoff explains to them that whichever space the wheel stops on will determine what type of match they will have this evening for the final spot in the Golden Ticket Ladder Match at Starcade. For example, if the wheel lands on its starting position they will have a falls count anywhere match, or, as he points out two other currently visible options, a blindfold match, or even a tables match. Blayde gives it a spin, and a good one at it too. It looks like it is going to come to a stop on the flag match space, but at the last possible moment it fails to hang on to the edge and moves to the next space, an evening gown match. Blayde finds this amusing, while Chuck Taylor is flipping his shit, stating there is no way in hell he’s wearing an evening gown, plus where does Bischoff expect him to find one his size at this hour. Bischoff reminds him that Taylor did win the right to re-spin once if he chooses, however wherever said spin lands on it will be official. Taylor tells his opponent to be to move, and gives it a spin. It has enough behind it to get passed the inferno match space, before coming to a stop clearly on the steel cage space. Beside it was a brawl for fall space, but it wouldn’t have made it. Bischoff looks impressed with where the wheel landed on, as does Taylor’s opponent. Bischoff feels this is fitting for them and tells them the first to escape the cage wins. He wishes them both good look before telling them to get ready. Intercontinental Tournament HZK vs Alex Windsor vs Jessica Guerrera Unlike the first semi-final bout, this one was more evenly contested. The masked Guerrera executed an inverted 450 splash on Windsor, but the follow up pin was broken up by HZK, who grabbed Guererra from behind and connected with a full nelson slam. HZK pinned Windsor to advance to the tournament finals. She’ll face Toni Storm next week on the Action Zone. Following the bout Hutch Henries is shown standing by backstage with The Miz. Miz talks about his upcoming match with The Rock, stating this is a match that should have happened a long time ago, though he mentioned the better late than never saying, because finally he will get what he truly deserves. As he continues, he soon gets interrupted by Matt Hardy. Hardy agrees with Miz on the matter of a match such as this is many years in the making, going as far as calling the Rock obsolete. However he isn’t quite sure the 7 Deieties were speaking of Miz as the one to be the new torch bearer. The Miz asks if these so called deities think it should be Matt, to which Matt says not necessary, however his broken brilliance makes him more qualified for such an important task. Miz is about to respond to that statement when Hutch tells them both to save it for the ring, reminding them both they are scheduled to face each other. Kana w/Karen Sato vs Rio Nazyki Rio came into this one looking for a bounce back performance, though Kana was on top of her game in this one and didn’t need long to pick up the win by submission, finishing things off with her kanalock. Following the bell Yoshiko hits the ring. Yoshiko and Kana are set to meet at Starcade, but the match stipulation has yet to be decided. Karen and Kana get their words in, while Yoshiko stands there with a grin on her face. Yoshiko glances towards the ring announcer, who then announces next week on the Action Zone the entire women’s roster will vote on what match the two will compete in at Starcade. There will be three choices, each of which were chosen by Yoshiko earlier today by three spins of Bischoff’s roulette wheel. The first choice is a last man standing match. The second choice is a steel cage match. The third choice is an inferno match. Both Kana and Karen realize whatever is chosen, both of them are in trouble. With that being said however, Kana actually gets back in Yoshiko’s face, standing up to her Starcade opponent. Don Callis has a feeling that Kana is sending a message to Yoshiko that whatever match is chosen, if Kana’s going down then she’ll take Yoshiko with her. This goes on until Yoshiko backs away and returns backstage. Shot earlier in the day, Heath Slater and Brian Kendrick are in the office of Eric Bischoff, and they too will have a match that will be decided by the big wheel. Slater accepted Kendrick’s open challenge for the Canadian National Championship. Slater goes to spin, but Kendrick stops Slater, claiming he has experience with big wheels and takes the spin instead. As the wheel goes round Slater Bischoff “Didn’t he lose on the Price is Right?” Kerndrick ignore the verbal jab. The wheel stops on ‘Bischoff’s Choice.’ Bischoff gives it a quick thought before deciding on a falls count anywhere match. The Miz vs Matt Hardy With Miz’s match against the Rock just around the corner, the Miz was looking for a strong outing here, even more so with his verbal exchange with his opponent earlier on. Hardy kept things close, however Miz managed to gain enough of an upper hand to go for the skull crushing finale. Before he could execute the move however, the Rock appeared on the video screen, getting Miz’s attention with his repeated woahs. The Rock tells Miz that he knows the Miz is busy, but he has something on his mind. He talks about their upcoming match, as well as some of Miz’s recent comments he’s made to he media. If Miz wants to talk down to the Rock to the press, to the dirt sheets, to anyone with a camera, the Rock is cool with that, however come Starcade, the Miz will find out that actions speak louder than words, and as we all know the Rock didn’t get this far in life by just talking a big game. He then tells his upcoming opponent he’ll let him finish, however he states that Matt Hardy is one of the best tag team champions of all time. Before Miz can respond to what was said, Hardy takes advantage of the distraction and manages to lock in the ice pick. Miz has nowhere to go once taken down, and eventually taps out. Standing by backstage with Hutch Henries are HZK and Toni Storm. Both ladies won their respective semi-final bouts earlier tonight and will meet next week on the Action Zone in the tournament final, where the winner challenge the Intercontinental Champion at Starcade. Both of them put themselves over, though Storm is more in your face to her opponent. HZK isn’t afraid to give it back however. Hutch attempts to get between them to prevent things from getting out of hand. Cameras catch up with The Miz as he returns backstage, not feeling too pleased with The Rock costing him his match with Matt Hardy moments ago. He notices the camera near by and address his Starcade opponent. Miz makes it very clear he will embarrass the Rock for his actions tonight. He then shoves the camera out of his way before continuing towards the locker room area. Falls Count Anywhere Canadian National Championship Brian Kendrick vs Heath Slater Slater comes out first, looking pretty confident in himself. He came short against Wade Barrett in Barrett’s last title defence before Starcade, but that doesn’t appear to be on his mind now. Before Slater can enter the ring he is jumped from behind by Brian Kendrick, being pulled down and striking the apron hard. The ref calls for the bell as Kendrick is about to introduce Slater to the ring steps. Kendrick wastes no time in following that up with the captain’s hook. Slater’s forced to tap out, having no chance in this one due to Kendrick jumping the gun. Kendrick doesn’t seem to care about what the fans think of the cheap win, though Don Callis does defend Kendrick’s use of the ring steps as the bell had sounded by that point. Kendrick takes the mic and tells Bobby Roode he’s ready for him. Roode can be as glorious as he wants, however sometimes, as Heath Slater found out, sometimes that’s just not enough. There’s talk backstage amongst the member of Oedo Tai about the next match, with is the steel cage match involving one of their own against a member of Team FIST. Steel Cage Match Golden Ticket Qualifier Chuck Taylor vs Blayde High stakes are up for grabs, with the winner to earn the final spot in Starcade’s golden ticket ladder match. Both men are no stranger to championship gold in XCW, but neither of them have held the top prize, and a win here would put them one step closer to changing that. As per the warning by Eric Bischoff, those affiliated with each wrestler are backstage, not wanting to risk costing them the match, nor risk facing additional discipline. Before their last encounter, Blayde came off a close, but losing effort to Taka Michinoku, while Chuck Taylor’s been in and out of competing for the Ironman title. As this one goes on, Don Callis is impressed with the aggressiveness shown by Taylor, This almost backfired as he threw Blayde against the side of the cage, though he didn’t notice said side of the cage was also part of the cage door. The door popped open and Blayde started to go forward. Taylor managed to grab hold of him in time and pull him back in. Not wanting risk another close call, Taylor delivered an awful waffle to his opponent before going out the door himself. Taylor joins, Jack Swagger, Alex Bryce, CM Punk, AJ Styles, and Kevin Steen at Starcade. In the office of Eric Bischoff, the boss attempts to settle to watch the main event bout before the heavyweight championship match contract signing, though Rob Rage enters the office. Rage asks Bischoff if he has made a decision as to Rage’s opponent at Starcade. Bischoff has given it some thought, but he hasn’t decided on one yet, however he promises Rage he will make a decision before next week’s Action Zone goes off the air. Rage tells Bischoff not to worry, because he has an idea, and he’s confident Bischoff will like it. Bischoff asks about it, however Rage tells him he’ll tell him and the world his plans on the Action Zone. Kevin Steen vs CM Punk w/Paul Heyman Before the two in the main event were introduced, the guest referee was announced. Eric Bischoff said it would be someone who would be in the Golden Ticket Ladder Match, and tonight’s referee is.....Jack Swagger. Jim Cornette follows Swagger to the ring, which Don Callis feels this is the first time in wrestling history a referee has a manager present. Cornett joins the table as the competitors make their respective entrances. During the bout Cornette plugs the ladder match and its competitors. Punk is the first to take exception to Swagger’s counts, being a bit on the slow side on both the corner and pin counts so the two wrestlers can wear each other down, but he is consistent about it, as Cornette points out. Punk looks like he might go with Swagger. Punk baits Swagger into taking the first shot, though Punk ducks and Swagger strikes Steen. Steen retaliates and goes at it with Swagger. Steen gets the upperhand and sets up Swagger for a package piledriver. Before Steen can connect with it after lifting Swagger upside down, Punk strikes Steen below the belt. Steen drops Swagger and Punk goes for the GTS. He gets all of it and pins Steen. Swagger recovers and makes the count, Punk wins. Punk tells Swagger to raise his hand and Swagger does so, however Swagger remember what happened moments ago and takes Punk down from behind and applies the ankle lock. Heyman tries to help his client, but Cornette grabs hold of Heyman and knocks him down. Swagger eventually lets go, but Swagger sent a message that he’s not one to be overlooked. After the ring clears, the ring gets set up for the contract signing between Harry Smith and Wade Barrett. Bischoff is present, and he reminds the two that while the main event slot of the show belongs to the women this year, he expects a highly contested fight from the both of them, considering how they got to this point. Smith’s been in the main event before, and as the Survival winner he’s in familiar territory. Barrett being the first man to hold every championship simultaneously, he set the bar for being world heavyweight champion high. As challenger, Bischoff has Smith sign first. Before Barrett can do the same, he tells Smith that he respects him and what he breaks to the table. In Barrett’s opinion not only has Smith stepped out of his father’s shadow, Smith has leapt from it and accomplished more than his father has, who had a legendary career in his own right. However the champ’s afraid he has some bad news for his challenger. Even on his best day, Smith legacy cannot compare to that of Wade Barrett’s, and at Starcade Barrett will prove that even though he doesn’t own all the gold anymore, he is still the biggest dog in the yard. The show comes to a close with them exchanging non-mic'd words as Eric Bischoff looks on. |

- Once again, very happy to see Toni Storm advance to the finals of the IC Tournament. She is great. Hope she goes the whole way. - Kana/Yoshiko is set to be a collision course at Starrcade. I have this odd feeling that the villain might sneak away with the win though. - Matt Hardy did well to beat The Miz however I think the loser is a little pre-occupied with the other task he has at hand. - I predict Bobby Roode to win the gold from Kendrick however The Man With A Plan has done a good job as champ imo. - The Golden Ticket Match at Starrcade looks a star studded line up. CM Punk is my prediction but I would like to see Styles win. |
