The show opens up to the tune simply known as ‘I am Canadian’ to clips of various members of the XCW rosters who hail from Canada. Jason Kronan and Don Callis are at the table for this one as this special presentation comes live from the nation’s capital of Ottawa, but before the in-ring action begins, the ring announcers introduces the playing of the Canadian National Anthem. As it approaches the 30 second mark, it gets inturpted by the theme for the Supernova of Superstars, Rob Rage. If you thought interrupting the anthem on a National holiday is a good way to get heat, coming out wearing the colours of the United States, complete with tank top that has the Canadian flag upside down, is like adding gasoline to the fire. Rage is walking with a purpose, and doesn’t seem to mind the insults being tossed his way. Once he steps through the ropes he calls for the mic. He tells the people that he is out here tonight in protest. While he is not one to be political, he explains that on this day Canadian’s supreme leader once again showed that when it comes to represent the nation on the global stage, the powers that be as usual have no idea what the hell they’re doing. He won’t bore us with the specifics, which he mentions it would take up more space than Chris Jericho’s infamous 1004 holds list; all he’ll say is the Canadian government can learn things from other nations. If Rage were in charge, things would be a lot different, and a lot simpler. For starters, before he can continue he gets cut off by the theme to the man who’s running the show this evening, the Hitman Bret Hart. As Bret hits the ring, the broadcast team is in agreement that if you were to ask the average Canadian who the top athlete in Canadian history is, two names will come to mind; Wayne Gretzky, and this man Bret Hart. Hart has a mic in hand and tells Rage tonight’s not the night to be making any kind of political statement, even if he has valid points. Rage tells Bret this is more about who runs the federal ship it’s also about the heavyweight title. Rage mentions that recently the British invaded and stole the championship belt, and the only way they had a chance to get it back was agree to make Rage in the Cage an inter-promotional event and share the spotlight with EPW. While things worked out in end for Harry Smith and the company as a whole, nobody in the office showed their gratitude for the dominant displace Rage put forward against Joe Coffey, who is a big deal across the pond, yet tonight’s main event sees Smith defending against Chris Jericho? A guy who talked a big game only to be defeated by EPW’s “ World Champion.” Rage demands Bret do the right thing and put him in the match as well and make it a triple threat. Bret refuses, stating that’s not how we do things here, however he does have an idea. Tonight Rage will face an opponent of Bret’s choosing, and whoever wins that match with face the winner of Smith and Jericho, on a special live event in the US on the 4th of July. Rage seems fine with that, though Bret suggests that in the meantime Rage keeps his views to himself, which nobody in this arena wants to be bored by that. Rage is fine with that, but when he wins the title he wants live mic so he can enlighten the world…on second, from what he sees around him tonight, he feels anything he says would be lost on them anyway. He points out one guy in the front row looks so dumb that said fan couldn’t spell ‘Dog’ if Rage spotted him the D and the G. Before he continues, out comes Chris Jericho. Jericho asks Bret to reconsider giving Rage a contender’s match tonight, saying he wouldn’t mind seeing Rage wrestle Harry Smith for the title tonight. In fact he feels it will save everyone some time. Here’s how Jericho things it would go down. Jericho does his best Rage impersonation while mentioning Rage will destroy the opposition, which Rage doesn’t look impressed with Jericho’s humour. Then once again, like it has happened many times before, Rage will once again fall to the champ. So if Rage wants to get it over with tonight Jericho will gladly take the night off if it means saving the people a headache down the road. Rage tells Jericho, as well as Hart, that while Smith may have had his number in the past, that will not happen again. In fact Rage is so confident in that, that he vows to never wrestle in Canada again if he doesn’t beat Smith tonight. That stipulation helps Bret’s decision making a bit easier, and makes the title match tonight between Smith and Rage official. Before Rage goes, he sends a warning to Jericho, warning Jericho to stay the hell out of his way tonight, otherwise Rage will send Y2J’s remains into orbit. Canadian National Championship Nick Watts w/James R. Kennedy vs Tye Dillinger vs Bobby Roode Originally the match was scheduled as Dillinger challenging Roode, but after a few minutes Kennedy and Watts interrupted and called both wrestlers out. Dillinger took the mic and said if it was okay with Roode, for Watts to join the party, so they can both shut him up. Roode appears to be fine with that, and the match shifted to triple threat rules. Watts attempted to get physically involved as the bout progressed, looking to strike Roode from behind after a brief moment on the outside involving all three competitors and before he could re-join Dillinger and Watts back on the inside, but Roode caught him and asked the crowd if he should give it to the Brit. Kennedy tries to beg off, which draws the attention of referee Chris Truax. With the ref’s head turned momentarily, Watts low blows Dillinger before planting him with a stiff looking ddt. Roode knocks Kennedy down, which earns him the approval of the crowd, but the cheers soon turn to boos as Watts picked up the count of three. Don Callis isn’t sure whether to give Kennedy a major assist on the play, or Roode an error, stating he feels Roode should have known better than to waste time with Kennedy. Following a commercial break Hutch Henries is shown standing by with Bret Hart. Before they get to the original reasoning for the interview, Bret mentions that he saw what went down and while he feels both Dillinger and Roode were screwed tonight. He promises to make things right and orders a rematch to take place three nights from now, but it will be a no disqualification elimination match, with one exception, and that is if Nick Watts strikes below the belt then he will be stripped of the title. Nick Watts and James R. Kennedy overhear that announcement, and they aren’t pleased with it. Watts calls Bret a jealous has been who, unlike other so-called legends of the sport, can’t even hold on to the spotlight he once held. But if that’s the game Bret wants to play, Watts can play the game. After they leave Bret goes to his original announcement, which involves the women’s division. He mentions the recent tension involving the women’s champion Skyler Raye and Act Yasukawa. He spoke with the two, the remaining members of Oedo Tai, as well as Eric Bischoff, and the owner of the company, on how to handle the situation. After further discussion it was decided the best way course of action is for them to get it out of their system, and at the upcoming Queen of the Ring Tournament, they will face each other in one of the few non-tournament matches that evening, and they will do so with the championship on the line, in a ladder match. Taylor Kay Deen vs Sami Zayn Kevin Steen came out for guest commentary and asked if the announcers knew why this vanilla midget got booked to face Taylor Deen while the King of the KO is on the bench. While Zayn was in control for the majority of the bout, Deen did get his shots in, and at one point looked like he could pull off an upset as he setup for tornado ddt. Zayn managed to escape the setup and a handful of seconds later planed Deen on the top buckle headfirst with the brainbustah. It was an easy pin for Zayn following that maneuver, which Steen is willing to admit that was an impressive sight. Following the match Steen entered the ring with a mic and repeated the comment he said at the commentary table to Zayn directly, though Steen offers from free advice, something that separates the two of them. Steen grabs Zayn’s opponent and plants him with a package piledriver. Steen grabs hold of the mic again, which Deen isn’t moving, and tells Zayn that is what separates a good wrestler like Zayn from the King of the KO, Steen makes sure to finish the match. He finishes with a ‘nice win though’ comment before leaving, while the referee and Zayn attend to the other guy. A pre-recorded feed from somewhere in the US featuring Team FIST is shown. Akuma, Icarus, Chuck Taylor, and Emma Matthews wish all of Canada a happy Canada Day, hoping they’re all having a good time. They then invite the Canadian viewers to their annual 4th of July bash, which, like everything else America, is 100 times bigger, 100 times louder, and 100 times better than anything any other country can do. Being the reigning Ironman Champion, Chuck Taylor issues a special challenge for the Independence Day event. Anyone who wants take his Ironman title from him is welcome to try their luck in a good ol’ American showdown. Akuma asks Taylor if he’s crazy, saying there’s no way XCW will sanction a shootout. Taylor asks him what he means, which Akuma does the finger-gun gesture, which Taylor states that wasn’t what he meant. What he means is he will prove his dominance in traditional 4th of july fashion, he will out eat any challenger in a hot dog eating contest. That comes as a relief to the rest of the group. Though a challenger does approach him now as Session Moth Martina as started her own party, and challenges Taylor to a drinking contest. Taylor finds that laughable, though Emma Matthews is willing to take her up on it, and one ups her by saying they should cross the border and get some of the stronger beer that Canada has, and not the piss-water here. Both seem to be in agreement on the subject, but when they turn to head for the direction Canada is in they both go a different way. Icarus can be heard out of camera view asking “What direction is Canada anyway?” Bret Hart confronts Kevin Steen backstage and informs Steen that he heard Steen’s comments, and while he does not agree with Steen’s actions, if Steen wants to wrestle then tonight he will do so. He tells Steen to get ready because his match will be coming up after the next one. Steen asks who he’ll be facing, which Bret tells him Chris Jericho. After a short break a women’s match begins the second the show feed returns. A couple of local competitors are going at it, looking to make an impression with the time they are given. They get a few minutes in until the bout is interrupted by the returning Lufisto and Kana. Don Callis mentions they teamed up at a non-televised event a couple weeks ago, and it appears that the two of them were serious with what was said that night. After tossing what is left of the two young competitors out of the ring, Lufisto calls for the mic. She states she and Kana are back to reclaim what is rightfully theirs. She tells the up and coming generation of talent looking to make a name for themselves XCW’s women’s division it will be sink or swim for them from day one. It doesn’t matter to them if it’s rookies who think they’re all that, Oedo Tai, or anyone in between, they are here to re-conquer this ring and she dares anyone who has a problem with it to try to stop them. The two leave the ring, giving the two whose match they interrupted each a parting shot before heading up the runway. As the they do so, the broadcast team confirms a match that will be seen on the 4th of July special, which involves the Queen of the Ring tournament. The qualification portion of the tournament will come to a close and narrowing the field down to the final 8 will begin. The first match of this process will feature Karen Sato vs Victoria. Eventually, Team FIST and Martina found their way into Canada, and when a live feed finds them Emma Matthews and Martina are about to take part in a drinking contest. Don Callis mentions that from what he’s heard about Martina, the only way Matthews has a chance is Martina more than likely has been drinking since 10:30 this morning. As this goes on, Chuck Taylor gets in an argument with a spectator on being able to see. After some back and forth verbal jousting, Taylor shoves the guy. As Don Callis mentions, Taylor picked the wrong guy to mess with as Taylor, as well as Icarus and Akuma, who came to his defence, are getting knocked down by NHL alumni Ted Irvine, the father of Y2J. The crowd now more into the physical display than with the drinking contest, which Matthews is calling for them to pay attention to her, while Martina is sitting across the table, which Don Callis states “Her day’s done.” Right after he said that Irvine pins Taylor, and everyone who was watching makes an out loud three count. Usually there would be a question on if that would even count, but nobody appears to be challenging the masses this time around, which even the ring announcer in the arena announces the title change as official. Kevin Steen vs Chris Jericho It is confirmed at the start of this one that the winner will meet the winner of tonight’s main event at the next show. While both men bring it at the sound of the bell, Steen is the first to get the advantage. During that time Sami Zayn is shown watching from backstage. Steen observed Zayn’s bout earlier on, and Steen’s post-bell actions towards Zayn want to keep an eye on this one, which is the conclusion both announcers come to. Steen’s making use of referee Jimmy Korderas’ corner counts to wear Jericho down, though one occasion the official opts to pull Steen off of Jericho instead of putting a count on. Steen gets in the official’s face about it, which Korderas warns Steen to back off. That momentarily distraction allows Jericho to get back into the fight, to the point where Steen gets knocked through the ropes and lands on the outside. Steen calls for time, but doesn’t get any as Jericho’s quick to go after him. The crowd’s behind Y2J as Steen ends up in the time keeper’s chair. The referee joins them on the outside as Jericho connects with the ten punches, ordering Jericho, and Steen, back in the ring. Jericho complies, and while Steen is back on his feet, he has no idea where he is and Jericho connects with a bulldog. Lionsault connects after that, nearfall. Jericho goes upstairs instead of questioning the count. Steen’s slow to get to his feet as Jericho sizes him up. Jericho takes off and looks to be on target. Steen manages to see him coming at the last possible second and counters with a standing dropkick, stopping Jericho dead in his tracks. Both men are down, but manage to get back to their feet by the ref’s count of 8. Steen throws the first punch, Jericho blocks it. This happens twice more until Jericho connects with a couple consecutive strikes. Off the ropes goes Steen. Jericho grabs hold of him as he comes off, but Steen pulls himself free and yanks Jericho down by the hair. Steen goes for the package piledriver. Jericho blocks the first attempt, and after blocking a second time Steen falls to a back body drop. Steen tries to get back to his feet, but as he does Jericho’s ready for him and connects with the code breaker. Jericho grabs the legs and turns Steen over for the walls of Jericho. Steen tries to hold on, but after a few seconds he taps out. Following the match Harry Smith is shown in the backstage area heading towards the gorilla position. He defends against the Supernova of Superstars, and that’s next. But before that, following the final tv timeout of the evening, back to the outdoor party, where someone offers to by Ted Irvine a cold one. The man also known as Chris Jericho Sr. does not recognize that it is Big T making the gesture, and when they get to the front of line T strikes Irvine in the head with a can of beer. T waves in Zack Ryder, who has a referee with him. The count is made and Zack Ryder wins the Ironman Champship. After Ryder gets the belt in his hands someone tabs Big T on the shoulder. The big man turns around and gets beer splashed in his face by Alex Bryce. Big T is blinded and he grabs Ryder, thinking it is Bryce, and delivers a spinebuster through the beer stand. Big T stumbles away and falls over a couple of trash cans as Bryce pins Ryder. The referee is still present and he captures the title. The new champ doesn’t hold the prize for very long as Chuck Taylor arrives on the scene and pulls Bryce’s hockey jersey over his head and stikes him several times in the mid-section. Icarus join in, which Jason Kronan calls on the referee to break it up, calling that third man in. Taylor with the cover, Taylor regains the belt. Team FIST feels it’s a good time to vacate the air and they manage to do so. World Heavyweight Championship Rob Rage vs Harry Smith(c) While he’s out in his usual attire, the challenge is still not well received by those in attendance, but he doesn’t seem to care what they think. For this title defence Smith comes out to O’Canada remix by Classified, instead of his usual theme, which Rage tells the ring announcer Smith’s just doing this for cheap pop. Smith’s got the people behind him, Rage has just himself, but that’s fine with him. Rage’s waited long enough and he jumps Smith before the bell sounds. As Rage goes on the early offensive the broadcast team reminds the viewers at home of the stipulation of this being a must win match for the challenger as Rage vowed to beat the guy who has had his number as of late, at the cost of not being able to compete in Canada if he fails this evening. In the early minutes things are going Rage’s way, but the defending champion is far from done, as Rage has experienced before, Smith manages to fight his way back into the contest, forcing Rage to powder and regroup. Smith goes after him, but Rage goes for the eyes before introducing Smith to the railing. Rage isn’t done on the outside just yet, as he picks up Smith and runs him back first into the ring post, and a second time before letting Smith fall. Rage tells the referee to shutup before returning Smith to the inside of the ring, following close behind. First cover of the match, two count. Rage tells Eddington James to count faster, calling him as bald as he is stupid. Rage sends Smith off the ropes and when the champion comes off he goes right into a bearhug. Rage controlling the pace of the match now as it looks like it could be lights out for Smith. After a few moments or so it looks like Smith may be out. Ref checks the arm, it drops twice, Smith manages to hold it up, the match continues. Rage looks surprised by that, as Smith starts to draw energy in from the crowd and fight out of the hold. Smith manages to do, Rage responds with a charging clothesline. Smith ducks the line and strikes with one of his own. Rage doesn’t go down though. Off the ropes Smith goes as Rage comes at him again. Smith connects. Rage is still on his feet, but moves back a couple of steps. Smith goes off the ropes again. Rage ducks the line, Smith goes of the ropes on the other side and this time he takes Rage down with a leaping clothesline. Smith grabs hold of Rage and lifts him up for a military press. Don Callis puts over Smith’s strength before Smith drops Rage. Smith with the cover, two count only. Smith’s not bothered by this as he gets back to his feet and calls for the running powerslam. Smith sets up Rage on the shoulders, though as Smith starts to run Rage manages to free himself. Smith turns around and almost gets his head taken off with by lariat from the challenger. Rage is pumped up now and let’s the crowd know it. Rage feels the end is near as he sizes up Smith for the spear. Smith is slow to get back to his feet, but Rage has his target locked. Rage rushes in, Smith moves out of the way. Rage manages to slam on the breaks before colliding with the corner. “Not this time” Rage informs the live crowd, knowing a misfire and colliding with the corner has cost him before. He turns around, right into an overhead belly to bell suplex. Rage manages to land almost on his feet. And when Smith turns around Rage connects with a spear. Rage with the cover, hook of the leg, Smith can’t kickout in time, Rage wins the championship. Rage’s win doesn’t go over well with the people, but he doesn’t care what they think, though he takes to the corner to let them know that he’s better than all of them. It looks like Rage is going to leave, but he stops and proceeds to whip the now former champion with the belt. Referee Eddginton James tells Rage to stop, but Rage tells him to take a hike. Rage stands above Smith, looking like he might resume his post-match humiliation, however before he can decide on doing that or leave, Chris Jericho runs out and makes the decision for him, which Rage decides it’s best to take off for the time being. Jericho will face Rage in a few days, which Rage gestures to Jericho that he’ll snap him like a twig, before holding up the championship belt high to close the show. |

- Rob Rage really let rip in the opening segment. He was right with the fact that he is a more worthy challenger than Jericho right now imo. - The Triple Threat was fun however was quietly hoping the match would go to Bobby Roode. I am a big fan of The Glorious One. - Convincing win for Sami Zayn. Enjoying watching the feud develop. Important victory for Jericho over Steen too. - Rage winning was a welcome shock. Glad to see one of my favourites in XCW win the gold again. Fingers crossed he can get past Jericho. |
