http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9DG_sMOklE (PROMO) In case you do or don't know, Tyler Perry is making a primetime soap on OWN, and I know what many of you might be thinking (Why should we EVER watch anything on Oprah's lousy channel when she disrespected all the soap fans). Trust me, I'm still mad at Oprah for that too, and her channel is AWFUL, but I'm a Tyler Perry fan and I'll be watching this JUST to support Tyler Perry. So what do you guys think of the promo and the show? |

I'll have to agree to disagree with you on this entire post fugeesfan. We can not fault Oprah for not picking up AMC/OLTL. At the time her network was struggling (still is) and shelling out millions of dollars for shows that would do little for her image. The people that watch OWN are the people that already watch daytime TV, so AMC/OLTL wouldn't necessarily strengthen her network. OWN's issues are primetime, not daytime. Tyler Perry has SO MANY shows, movies, plays, that I really just dont see this being a success because I dont see him having the time to put into a daily series like this. I'm not hating on him while I'm not a diehard fan like most, everything I have seen of Tyler Perry's I've enjoyed I just dont see this taking off. I hope it does, but it'll be hard. |

Fugeefan, there is something about The Haves and the Have Nots that works, and it works REALLY well too. The show has had two very successful seasons, and is in the middle of a really excellent third season. I've watched both seasons so far and the premise of the series really sparkles (one of the best parts is using Savannah, Georgia as a show setting again, after the short-lived prime time soap, Savannah, is a stroke of genius). And the fact that Tyler Perry writes, executive produces, created and directs it shows that the man is absolutely talented! The cast is very impressive. Along with some relative newcomers, veteran actor John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard; Smallville) plays an awesome villain in Jim Cryer; Tika Sumpter (One Life to Live) plays a fascinating vixen in troublesone Candace Young and Crystal Fox (In the Heat of the Night) as her mother, Hanna Young provide a lot of wonderful entertainment. Mustn't forget the kudos given to Eva Tamargo (who played such a motherly role of Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions) as Celine Gonzales, another domestic (and someone who is QUITE the polar opposite of Pilar). And newcomer Angela Robinson plays a very impressive and quite powerful "female Jim" in her role of haughty and extremely homophobic attorney, Veronica Harrington. My favorite scenes are when Jim and his wife, Katheryn (Renee Lawless, in some of the best performances I've ever seen) get into their blistering arguments and shouting matches. Quite entertaining. Never was there more HATRED than has been shown in the scenes between husband and wife. (Those two even outdo the classic fights of J.R. Ewing and Sue Ellen Ewing of Dallas fame) I guess I am a fan of Katheryn. In fact, I kind of consider her my heroine. She knows how to put the fear of Hardgraves (her maiden name) into people. I love her cattiness with Candace and Celine (two of the "chronologicals" that Jim cheated on her with); and yet, I also love how real, genuine and honest she is with Hanna, perhaps the only real friend she has. For all it is, it has become quite the success, in the realm of what Dallas was. For OWN's first original scripted show, it has become quite a fun ride. I'd say, give it a chance. It's quite fun, and Tyler Perry has more than delivered with the drama. |
