Scene One: A coffee house in Cambridge near Harvard Square. Veronica Harper is spending some time with her niece, Rosemary. She and Mark had gone to the Harvard Square area for him to get registered at Harvard for his Phd in business.

VERONICA: Sounds like it was an awful fight, Rose.
ROSEMARY: It certainly was.
VERONICA: And you said, she didn't even bat an eye of emotion?
ROSEMARY: Not even when she was slapped.
VERONICA: She got slapped? By who?
ROSEMARY: Hannah; Audra; Michelle; Sheila and Aunt Patricia.
VERONICA: Wow, they ALL slapped the mighty Erica?
ROSEMARY: Yeah, and it was something else.
VERONICA: The argument itself?
ROSEMARY: It was a bloodbath.
VERONICA: I am sorry, darling. I was out of town on business, else I would have been there too.
ROSEMARY: I am glad you weren't there. She even crumpled letters from her children.
VERONICA: Mark and Joanna wrote their anger?
ROSEMARY: Yeah, and she glanced at the letters and casually threw them away.
VERONICA: I would think she would have feared Aunt Patricia.
ROSEMARY: She just didn't care.
VERONICA: I will talk to Aunt Patricia today. She should let me know what is going on. And if it's true, then I will let her have it myself.

(Rosemary and Veronica look at the time, and they decide to do some lunch.)

Scene Two: The Hallers guest house. The Haller family has gotten themselves firmly entrenched with their new home. Victoria lives with them, and usually takes care of the baby while Nicholas and Taylor are at work. They are sitting in the den.

TAYLOR: I got the bookstore running pretty good.
JACQUELINE: Sounds like it was needed, especially here.
TAYLOR: I know I have a lot of competition with the one main bookstore in Boston, but I think a used bookstore was needed.
NICHOLAS: You ran the Open Book with a lot of grace, especially after Arianne had left it for you.
VICTORIA: I think Taylor's Books will do a wonderful business. And in Brockton, it is a well needed place.
TAYLOR: Finding a place to open was not easy. However, a real estate agency helped me find a perfect place on Scituate.
NICHOLAS: Perfect, right on the main street too.
TAYLOR: Astrid McIntyre told me about it.
JACQUELINE: Who is she?
VICTORIA: Astrid took over her mother's real estate business here in this part of the area.
JACQUELINE: Oh, ok.

(The family enjoys a cup of tea.)

Scene Three: Copley Square in the heart of downtown Boston. Stephanie Rendell is sitting at a table. She had finally succeeded in getting her family's assets unfrozen and was enjoying lunch near the Ritz-Carlton. Erica Harper walks up to her.

STEPHANIE: What do YOU want?
ERICA: I want to talk to you.
STEPHANIE: Oh my GOD! One of the almighty Harpers talking to lowly little me!
ERICA: Don't be funny, lady! We have an enemy in common.
STEPHANIE: I am not being funny, madame! I don't much like you at all!
ERICA: If you want to get back your status, you would do well to listen to me!
STEPHANIE: You have my attention.
ERICA: I can find information on my dear niece, Rosemary.
STEPHANIE: Go on.
ERICA: What I can do is fix that information to make her look like a fool, and you a saint.
STEPHANIE: Fine. Go ahead and do this, but let me make one thing clear here. And you'd better realize this, lady. I hate you as much as I hate Rosemary, but we are allied because of this information. This so-called 'information' you have had better yield some fruit, because if it doesn't, then nothing will stop me from telling Rosemary that you tried to drive me out of Boston. And trust me, lady, I will KNOW if you are lying to me!
ERICA: You know you can trust me.
STEPHANIE: No I can't, but right now, I don't have a lot of choice.

(Erica smiles wickedly. She knows her information is false, but isn't about to tell Stephanie that)

Scene Four: Dylan and Alex's guest house. Dylan is in Boston for the day, getting back into the daily routine of being back in his home area. Alex's cell phone rings.
ALEX: Hello? Oh, it's YOU, Nigel.
NIGEL (via Phone): Are you broken up with Dylan?!
ALEX: No! And I don't think I would ever do that.
NIGEL: You have no choice. What would you think if dear darling Dylan found out that you slept with me.
ALEX: Dylan already found out about it.
NIGEL (heaving): What?!
ALEX: I told him already. He knew about the blackmail, and that you were responsible for it!
NIGEL: I didn't figure him for a smart person.
ALEX: Don't you DARE mock my boyfriend in that manner!
NIGEL: I will get you away from him! Believe me!
ALEX: No, you will listen to ME! How you got my cell number, I already know. I know what is going on, and when I get my hands on Erica, she will be made to pay for what she did. She will definitely SUFFER for this. However, if I hear one word, or even the EDGE of one word that you even tried to threaten my boyfriend, whom I adore with all my heart, then I will see to it that you AND your wicked puppet master will be completely DESTROYED! And you know very well that I will carry that out, if you even try to mess with me and the people I love.
(An infuriated Alex disconnects the call and blocks Nigel's number from here on in. Dylan comes over)
DYLAN: Alex, are you ok? I could hear you yell across the yard.
ALEX: I am fine, sweetheart. It was that damned Nigel.
DYLAN: No wonder you were yelling.
ALEX: He tried to bust us up again.
DYLAN: He won't quit. But I think he will soon enough.
ALEX: I told him you knew about what he did.
DYLAN: I know, he seduced you, and not vice versa.
ALEX: You're not mad?
DYLAN: No, I am not mad. Nigel is capable of a lot of cruelty, and plus he is still, unofficially working on Erica's payroll.
ALEX: They both need to be stopped.
DYLAN: They will, babe. And we will do it together!

(Alex and Dylan share a kiss)

Scene Five: Harper Mansion.

WENDY: Do you think I had gone overboard yesterday.
MICHAEL: Why do you say that?
WENDY: Because Erica said I was an outsider.
MICHAEL: So what if you are?
WENDY: Why did she not include that damned Nigel in the mix?
MICHAEL: Who knows why.
WENDY: I feel insulted.
MICHAEL: Erica thinks she can do what she wants, but she can't. And she knows it.
WENDY: I came here at Patricia's insistance, and I am not here at Erica's pleasure.
MICHAEL: Erica needs to be taken down a few pegs, and it will happen.

(Michael kisses Wendy on the cheek.)

(Voice of Emily Harper: "Harpers Falls: A New Beginning will continue in a moment, here on ONtv")

Scene Six: Wheeler's Department Store, one of the largest department stores in the area. Aligned with Macy's without having the Macy's nameplate. Veronica is in her aunt's office talking with her.

VERONICA: So, what happened was true, eh?
PATRICIA: Yes, it was, and it was horrible.
VERONICA: Sounds like she didn't really care one bit at all.
PATRICIA: She looked at the letters Mark and Joanna wrote and just crumpled them and threw them away.
VERONICA: I knew she was heartless, but not like this.
PATRICIA: She is getting very dangerous. I had no other alternative BUT to banish her.
VERONICA: You BANISHED her?
PATRICIA: Yes, I did. I had no other choice.
VERONICA: You did what you had to, I am thinking.
PATRICIA: Yes I did. Now, she is causing more trouble within the family.
VERONICA: I heard she outright called a lot of people outsiders, while she had out and out said to Dylan that he wasn't a Harper.
PATRICIA: Except for Nigel Percival-Bennett
VERONICA: Oh, HIM! I know him, and I don't like him.
PATRICIA: Nobody does.

(Patricia is worried.)

Scene Seven: Copley Square. Stephanie and Erica are still talking

ERICA: Whether you like me or not is immaterial. I DO get results!
STEPHANIE: A fat lot of good your results got. Your assistant is in a UK prison for murder!
ERICA: A mere technicality; and he will be free.
STEPHANIE: Tell me something, lady. What kind of JOY do you get out of making people hate you?
ERICA: I am not here to win a popularity contest! It is nothing personal, it's just business!
STEPHANIE: Reducing your own family relationships to mere business arrangements! That is horrendous.
ERICA: You did that to your ex-husband; and you did that to Craig Atchley!
STEPHANIE: Oh, is that so? You are throwing that in my face, eh? Well, then, how about the dirty turn you did your own family when you tried to sell the Harper Estate to the city of Brockton to use as a landfill?! Your family was worth to you nothing more than $500 million dollars! If you're going to throw sins around, you'd best prepare to get your own sins thrown back at you!
ERICA: You are a vicious bitch!
STEPHANIE: Not to mention the fact that you have slutted around with every wealthy man in this state! Don't think I don't know. Because I have done the same thing. I know a slut when I see one!
ERICA: Go look in the mirror, you gold digger!
STEPHANIE: Not before you look in one of your own, slut! I KNEW you were lying to me about Rosemary! I may hate her, but I don't hate her as much as I hate you! You crossed the wrong woman, Erica Harper, and when I am through with you, you will wish you had NEVER messed with Stephanie Rendell!
ERICA: I see you've turned on me too, eh?
STEPHANIE: Maybe the Harpers aren't all that bad. Rosemary is an angel compared to YOU! I am out of here. Waiter! This fine lady will pay my lunch bill! (smiling acidly at Erica) WON'T YOU, 'MISS HARPER'?!
(Stephanie sidles out, smiling. She had a NEW enemy in Erica Harper.)
ERICA: Here, peasant!

(The waiter, miffed, takes the bill and pays it. Erica takes a glass of champagne, and guzzles it)

Scene Eight: Dylan's guest house. Alex and Dylan have awakened after a PASSIONATE session of love.

ALEX: You STILL have it, honey.
DYLAN: So do you.
(the bell rings)
ALEX: Who can that be?
(He and Dylan go downstairs, at the door, is Sheila.)
SHEILA: Oops, I am sorry, guys. I caught you at the wrong time.
DYLAN: Don't worry, cousin. We just finished.
SHEILA: What are you guys doing tomorrow?
ALEX: I haven't thought about it.
DYLAN: What's going on, Sheila?
SHIELA: I am reopening Sheila Watkins Designs in the old building. The city let me buy it back. And it will be a working concern again!
ALEX: Sheila, that is wonderful.
SHEILA: I am having a huge reopening party there tomorrow. Want to come?
DYLAN: Of course we'll come.
ALEX: Count on us, Sheila.
SHEILA: Thanks, you two.

(Sheila kisses her cousin and his spouse on the cheek and she heads to her and Anyssa's house.)

Scene Nine: Wendy and Michael are still talking.

MICHAEL: You don't worry about Erica, Wendy. She blathers so much, she wants to hear the sound of her own voice.
WENDY: I know. I need to ask you a favor.
MICHAEL: Sure.
WENDY: My sister, Vivienne, is bringing my things here. James is out of country on business, and she is alone at the house. Would be all right if she stayed with us?
MICHAEL: Of course, we have plenty of room.
WENDY: Thank you, Michael.
(The phone rings)
MICHAEL: I have it. Hello? Yes, Wendy is here.
WENDY: Who is it?
MICHAEL: It's Vivienne.
WENDY: Viv? What's wrong, you're crying.
VIVIENNE (via phone): It's James. He was killed in a plane crash in the Pyrenees mountains!
WENDY: Oh my goodness. What is going on?
VIVIENNE: Lance and Anthony went there to try to find the body, and it was vaporized in the crash! They couldn't find it at all!
WENDY: What are you going to do?
VIVIENNE: I don't know.
WENDY: Come out here to Boston.
VIVIENNE: I think I will. Shane is in Los Angeles, and he knows.
WENDY: What about Eric?
VIVIENNE: I think you will find out in a minute.
(The doorbell rings)
MICHAEL: I will get it.
WENDY: That sounds cryptic, Viv.
(Michael comes in, with Wendy's son, Eric.)
ERIC: Mother?
WENDY: Honey! Oh, Eric. You're home.
ERIC: Finish your call to Aunt Vivienne. We have a lot of time.

(Wendy's eyes are full of tears, both for James' passing; and the joy of seeing her son again!)

Scene Ten: Copley Square again. Stephanie looks at Rosemary, who is still angry with her. Rosemary, to her surprise, was called by Stephanie to meet her.

ROSEMARY: I came when you called me, what is going on?
STEPHANIE: You and I will always be enemies, you know this, right?
ROSEMARY: Right.
STEPHANIE: But this time, I DO need your help.
ROSEMARY: Why come to me? What about Cliff and his family? Have they unbent to you?
STEPHANIE: I asked for that one, I admit that.
ROSEMARY: We've not spoken to one another since school. What do you need?
STEPHANIE: I need an ally against your aunt Erica.
ROSEMARY: I think we can co-exist.
STEPHANIE: Thank you, Rose.
ROSEMARY: We share a common enemy, Steph. What did she do?
STEPHANIE: She tried to drive me out of Boston.
ROSEMARY: Why?
STEPHANIE: Because I told her an unwanted truth.
ROSEMARY: That she is a slut, right?
STEPHANIE: How did you know?
ROSEMARY: We ALL called her that.
STEPHANIE: We need a plan.
ROSEMARY: That we do. But what?

(The two frenemies sit down and plan on how to bring the overbearing Aunt Erica down)

(Voice of Josh Quong-Tart: "On the next Harpers Falls: A New Beginning...")

SHEILA (to a sympathetic crowd): Welcome to the relaunch of Sheila Watkins Designs!

ROSEMARY (to Stephanie): I forgot how much fun we have as friends.

CRAIG (to Hannah): I don't want you alone, especially with a child. I want to help all I can, especially since the father won't help you at all.
