I was planning on making an announcement about my shows, but I've came across a difficult decision... I've been trying to gather influence from other shows I've been reading (Clark Hill, Colliding Hearts, and Riverview) recently this month into my original series, but it's just not working for me. I assume it's because I'm not putting much of ideas into my creation. Another dillemma in regards to my fanfiction (AMC/OLTL). I like to see my writing as if it was real, which means actors that are currently working will not be involved in my project. Actors that are involved in my project that just so happens to get another job, will be written out or recast. This problem mainly come from Thorsten Kaye (ex: Zach, AMC: nuRidge, B&B), Debbi Morgan (ex: Angie), and Josh Kelley (ex: Cutter) new projects. I know it may be alot to look at original fiction/fanfiction in a realistic way, but I just happen to see it fun that way, as if it was real. Due to the holidays, I will not be starting any production on any show until early next year. Until then, I have alot of thinking to do in regards of my projects. I want to consider "breaking" the reality rule, but I'm uncertain. Any advice is appreciated. |

It is a real dilemma you are in Skye especially if you want to keep it close to reality. The good thing is that there are a lot of soap actors that doesn't have any work. I would start looking at cancelled soaps and what their actors are up to. Luckily I don't have that problem when I cast my shows but that is only because I don't really mind if it comes off as real. When I develop my characters I have a clear view of who might fit into that role. Casting is probably one of the hardest things to do and personally hate it. If I were you I would start an original show first. You don't have to worry about living up to the real shows expectations. I have seen with Eye On Fashion. The views were not that good but with my original show views are much better. You also have more control over stories and characters. As to story ideas. All you have to do is just listen more closely to people's conversations. When I hang out with friends or family I listen to the stories they tell of what happened to this or that person. Then I will think to myself. That could be an amazing plot for a character. Of course you will tweak the storyline to fit in. Also look at your newspaper. There are many story ideas. Inspiration will come to you and once it starts you won't be able to stop. I am not sure if anything I said here will help you. |

Skye I agree with Jacques. I was going to write my own version of a current soap and I've done it before and I enjoyed it. But to be honest, writing your own original soap gives you so much more freedom. It's fun to create your own characters and couples/stories, everything. I also did what Jacques suggested when I was casting for my show( looking at actors from canceled series to make it real), but there are times when you have a character and you can imagine a certain actor playing them. Then sometimes you consider making an exception. Story ideas, I think comes from coming up with the characters and who they are and I think certain stories are just born. I also think you shouldn't be afraid to take risks. Jacques gave some great suggestions and if there is anything I can do please feel free to ask! I look forward to whatever you come up with! I'm going to respectfully disagree with Jacques and Mylo on this one. I told you before that both original works and fan fics both have their own advantages and disadvantages, which is true. However, if your issue is coming up with storylines then fan fic is the way to go. You already have established stories to go from. I can't remember if you were picking up from ABC's finale or PP's finale, but either way both shows on both networks had lots of stories hanging when they ended. Also, all you have to do to get storylines for those shows are visit any message board. Even our discussion forum has several storyline 'wishlists' that fans have posted about different series. Even if you don't use those stories, they could be spring boards for other story lines. I hope that all of these comments are helping you make your decision and not confusing you more
