Erik: Hello, and welcome to TopTV Presents: Erik Bard Productions a Year in Review. Today we are talking Riverview, Fate, Time in A Bottle and so much more! First off, let’s talk about the history of Erik Bard Productions. Erik Bard Productions launched October 3rd 2008 with, surprisingly, Fate, which was a huge success on another board, DRtv. The production company later launched relaunches of Port Charles, All My Children and One Life to Live. It also had success with Clue, Tempted and Miracles Happen in Primetime. DRtv turned into ONtv in 2011 and ceased to exist at the end of 2012. Erik Bard Productions joined with JacquesP Production and AliSor Productions to launch TopTV exactly one year ago today. Erik Bard Productions jumped at the chance to create it’s first ever original soap opera and it was a huge success! For both May and August Sweeps Riverview was the number one show on the board! Joining us, from the show Riverview are Vanessa Marcil (Jessica Meredith Francis) and Robert LaSardo (Ron Hampton) Riverview’s hottest couple!
(Vanessa and Robert sit down on the couch across from Erik)
Erik: Both of you have been on Riverview, since the beginning correct?
Vanessa: Correct. Riverview is different in we aren’t original characters, because I was in a coma for the first 3 months and Robert was not living in Riverview, but we have been a part of the cast since the beginning.
Erik: When did you realize that Riverview was a hit?
Robert: Honestly, when I first had scenes with Natalie (Hall, Ann) those scenes were so good and fans were tweeting me all weekend about them.
Vanessa: For me it was probably when I took some time off to tape GH’s 50th anniversary episodes. I was gone for like 3 weeks, which is when Marie had tricked Jessica into leaving the country. When I came back everyone was tweeting me to beat her ass! I knew that this show had gotten big then.
Erik: Currently, the two of you are having an affair. Robert, your brother is actually Vanessa’s husband on the show. How much fun is it to play this story?
(Vanessa and Robert chuckle)
Robert: You have no idea! We were told by the writers that this was coming and we were so excited. We knew how to play the scenes where Jessica and Ron were working together because we knew where it was heading.
Vanessa: I love it because I’m working with Robert and Ingo. What else could a girl ask for? I love both of them, I don’t want it to end!
Erik: Is it going to end?
Vanessa: Unfortunately, I think so.
Robert: This story is so layered that it’s going to end, but at the same time, it’s never going to end. William and Jessica love each other, they do. However, they both love other people also. William loves Marie and Jessica loves Ron.
Erik: William and Jessica have a child together and William and Marie have a child together, are Ron and Jessica going to even the playing field?
Robert: God no.
(Robert and Vanessa laugh)
Vanessa: Jessica’s smarter than that. There’s actually a great scene that airs that Jessica talks about how she feels just like Marie and Ron reminds her that she’s not carrying a bastard child and that statement is so true. Jessica will never have a child with Ron. She’s all about appearances and that appearance isn’t a good one, so Jessica will never allow it to happen.
Erik: Next week the one year anniversary episode of Riverview airs. Critics have already said that it’s one of the best episodes of a soap opera they’ve ever seen. Do you two agree?
Vanessa: Yes. It’s one of the character’s last days and the episode is a dream sequence, with some real time scenes playing out, so it progresses story while also allowing the character to have scenes that they’ll never actually get to have.
Robert: Not only that, it mirrors the pilot perfectly that was wildly panned as one of the best pilots of any show ever.
Erik: Can you reveal the character that’s leaving the show?
Robert: No, we’re taping this before the bosses have given the OK to reveal.
Vanessa: By the time you watch this interview, everyone will know who’s leaving.
Erik: Vanessa, you were upgraded to the promotion work for the show, how big of a deal is that for you?
Vanessa: Huge. Laura (Wright, Marie) and Ingo (Rademacher, William) and I had an amazing shoot and I’m so excited that for the next year my pictures going to be representing Riverview!
Erik: Well, we wish you the best of luck for the next season of Riverview, which returns Monday!
(Vanessa and Robert clap as the camera switches to a new set with the Fate logo in the background. Erik walks over to the screen.)
Erik: Fate was the winner of the first ever Pilot Season here on TopTV. It premiered this September to lackluster ratings. In October the series was renewed for a final 4 episode Second Season that was meant to give closure to many of the stories that were left open ended during the Season One finale. Here to join us to talk about Fate are it’s adult stars Hillary B. Smith (Wendy Cross) and Robert S Woods (Brian Cross).
(Hillary and Robert join the stage with Erik)
Erik: Fate was cancelled in October, but then the fans wrote in droves! And the producers told me that you guys have some news?
Hillary: Yes. First off, the episode orders for Fate have been confusing since day one. We originally got a 13 episode pick-up. That didn’t include the pilot and the special that we taped in case we won the lead out poll for the Top Awards. They had to tape it because we were wrapping production and it would be way more expensive if we had wrapped and they won.
Erik: So, you had a 15 episode first season?
Robert: No. 14. The special episode was going to carry over to Season 2. So we only taped 3 more episodes to make the final season.
Hillary: BUT the producers have allowed up to reveal during this special, that TopTV has picked up our back 9 order to give us a complete 13 episode 2nd season!
Erik: That’s awesome, so Fate is no longer cancelled?
Robert: Everyone’s still on the fence about that. They told us to leave the finale open ended. If nothing else we’ve got a full 2 seasons out of it.
Erik: Any word on when the second half of the season will air?
Hillary: Mid-April, but no exact date has been announced yet.
Erik: Well, now that exciting news is out of the way. Let’s talk about you two! You are the adult couple on the show and you’ve had quite a run on the show!
Robert: We really have. Bankruptcy, downsizing, divorce, affair, backstabbing. And that’s only the first 18 episodes!
Erik: Have you taped the back 9 yet?
Hillary: We just wrapped production with it. I’m really rooting for a Season 3, because the second half of Season Two doesn’t really do Hillary/Robert justice there’s still lots to tell
Erik: This show, ultimately is about the lives of college freshman correct?
Robert: Yes, but they grow each season. So Season Three would be about their lives as College Juniors.
Erik: Do you think there’s room for adult stories such as yours as this series progresses?
Hillary: Yes and no. Each season the main characters become adults more and more so eventually our stories will flow together seamlessly but until then I think we will get less and less story each season. That’s life though. As children grow into adults, they use their parents less.
Robert: I think that we’ll always have story, it just wont be as prominent as it was in the first season and a half.
Erik: Is the mid-season finale, that’s airing Friday still the same as it would’ve been as the series finale?
Hillary: Yes. The writers believe very strongly that life happens. There’s no nice little bow that happens before you die. The episode that airs Friday is the same as it would’ve been if it was episode 4 of a 13 episode weekly season, the series finale, the mid-season finale, whatever it would’ve been. Doesn’t matter.
Erik: Fate returns tomorrow for the final 2 episodes of the first half of it’s season. Thank you both for being with us.
(Hillary and Robert clap as the camera moves to another stage that has the Erik Bard Productions logo on it and Erik walks over to the screen)
Erik: Now it’s time to talk about what’s next for Erik Bard Productions in 2014. Time In A Bottle is currently in contention for being the second pilot picked up for Pilot Season. Those results will be announced later on today. If it is picked up, the pilot will air Sunday night and the premiere will be the following week and the season will conclude in April. Erik Bard Productions is predicting that there will be two more Pilot Season rounds occurring this year, so it has ordered two scripts. Tainted Love, which is a drama about a love triangle and everyone that it involves and Tempted, which is another procedural focusing on a serial killer and their victims. Erik Bard Productions wants to thank all of the fans that have made Riverview and Fate the successes that they are today. We hope to continue to bring quality drama’s to your screens in 2014!
