EPISODE 2 Created By: William J. & Lee Phillip Bell Executive Producer: Casey Hutchison Written By: Dee Lynn At the Ashby Home, tension is building from Cane telling his children about his firing. CHARLIE: (jumping off the sofa) Did you just say you got fired? What the hell? CANE: Come on, son. You know cursing isn't allowed in this house. MATTIE: Charlie may not have said it as eruditely as he could. However, I concur. Dad, what the... heck? I thought Ms. Newman believed you. Plus, you've said on multiple occasions that she even believed in you. CHARLIE: (angrily) Yeah. How can she go and fire you, Dad? CANE: She did believe me. It's just that things got very complicated. Victoria made a very cutthroat decision. But, come on, you know me, I’ll bounce back. I’ll have a new job before you know it. MATTIE: But you loved working at Brash and Sassy. All we have ever heard from you is how wonderful the company is. CANE: It is a good company. A great one even. But, I guess it’s not meant for me anymore. CHARLIE: I want to go to that mean former boss of yours and tell her off. In fact, I think I’ll go track her down right now. Cane jumps up quickly to block the door. CANE: No, Charlie, don’t do that. It will only make a bad situation worse. Let’s just stay here tonight and do what we planned. MATTIE: So, we know about your current occupational state. What about mom's? Did she get fired too for supporting you? CANE: As far as I know, she’s still very much employed as the brand ambassador of the men’s line. CHARLIE: She should quit. Show those fakes what they’re missing. CANE: It’s her decision. And whatever she decides to do, we have to promise to support her okay? MATTIE: Alright. CHARLIE: Fine. CANE: Your mother is a good woman. The best woman I’ve ever known, actually. She deserves all of our support, especially during this difficult time. (clearing his throat) Now, why don’t you two get washed up for dinner while I place the pizza order for us? Charlie heads out of the room. Mattie starts to follow but instead turns and looks at her father. MATTIE: I bet this means no internship, not that I’d want it after what happened to you, of course. CANE: (shaking his head) I’m sorry. MATTIE: It’s not your fault, Dad. Mattie leaves. Cane slumps against the closed door behind him. Every horrible decision he has made is coming back to bite him in the ass. Worse, his children and wife will be devastated if he’s really the father of this coming child of Juliet’s. He thought about how Charlie and Mattie trusted him… when the truth was he had lied to them too… by not telling them about Juliet; for not admitting how much he had hurt their mother. He just kept making one mistake after another. --- At Victoria's Home, Victoria opens the door to her place and walks inside. She finds Reed sitting on the sofa, drumming his fingers against the coffee table absentmindedly. A book sits in his lap. VICTORIA: Reed, I’m home. Reed doesn’t look up right away. He keeps staring off into space. VICTORIA: (louder) Reed, son. Is everything alright? Reed looks at her this time. REED: (nods) Oh yeah. It’s fine. You missed Katie and Johnny though. Hannah just put them to bed. VICTORIA: (Shaking her head sorrowfully) I was afraid of that. Well, I guess I can see them in the morning, huh? REED: Yeah. VICTORIA: I hope you kids aren’t feeling ignored. I know I’ve been keeping insane hours at the office lately. There’s just been so much going on. REED: I understand. VICTORIA: (setting down her briefcase and taking the seat opposite Reed) I hope your brother and sister do too. Anyway, what are you reading? REED: (blushes a little) It’s nothing. VICTORIA: Come on. Clue me in. I didn’t even know you liked to read. REED: I don’t. It’s just..., well, Mattie is so smart. I thought if I read some Shakespeare and we talked about it, I could...you know, impress her. VICTORIA: (sneaking a peek at the title, she smiles tiredly) The classic ‘Romeo and Juliet’, huh? Yep, that’s impressive alright. REED: Except I really don’t get all that old language stuff and what if... VICTORIA: If? REED: If she doesn’t think I’m smart enough? VICTORIA: You are very intelligent, Reed. Please don’t forget that. REED: Okay, well what if she decides not to go out with me because you and her dad... Reed breaks off. VICTORIA: You can say it. We had a falling out. REED: Yeah. (Rubs the back of his neck) I mean, I am sure it had to be done but... VICTORIA: It did. Listen, I took no pleasure in doing it. And, I am sorry you’re worried about this whole thing. But, I guess there’s really only one thing you can do. REED: What’s that? VICTORIA: Call Mattie. See if you’re still on for the movie. REED: (sighing) I guess I’ll call her now. Better to get it over with, right? Reed stands and heads for the kitchen to make his phone call. Victoria lets out a long sigh after he’s gone. She can’t believe just how many people are being affected by Cane and Juliet’s backwards actions. --- At a Cheap Motel, in Room 311, Chelsea didn’t think she could be shocked by anything anymore, but Chloe’s outrageous claim that Adam is alive shocks her right into silence for a long moment. She just freezes, unable to react or even move. CHLOE: Chels, did you hear me? Adam is alive. Chloe doesn’t get a chance to finish her sentence because Chelsea, suddenly finding her fight, throws out a hand and slaps Chloe hard across the face. Chloe’s hand moves to her cheek which is flaming red. CHELSEA: (shouting) You lying bitch! Is there no level you won’t stoop to, to get your way? Well, it doesn’t matter. You’re done for. I am calling the police right now. You’re going to jail for life, Chloe. Just what you deserve. --- Back at the Ashby Home, in Mattie's Bedroom, Mattie walks into her room and flips on the light. She drops her backpack on her bed and then sprawls out beside it. She can’t believe what is happening to her family. Her dad fired because of someone lying that he had made inappropriate advances on them? Never! She knew her father. No way in hades would Cane Ashby ever do something like that. She wonders how anyone can believe that woman’s lies, especially Victoria Newman, who is supposedly so intuitive. Mattie sighs as her cell phone rings. She thinks about ignoring it but grabs it from her pocket anyway. She puts it to her ear without looking at the caller ID. MATTIE: Hello? REED: Hey, Mattie? It’s Reed. Reed Hellstrom. Mattie feels a flutter in her stomach at hearing Reed’s voice. Then she remembers that Reed’s mom fired her father and she doesn’t feel half so excited anymore. MATTIE: (sighing) Yes? REED: I just wanted to let you know that I found a movie I think that matches your qualifications. It's definitely not gory. MATTIE: Oh… REED: Oh? Do you uh, still want to go out with me? MATTIE: (nervously picking imaginary lint off of her top) Actually, Reed...I need to take a raincheck on the movie. I am just super busy with summer school and family stuff that I really don’t have the time right now. She hates to put him at arm’s length but imagines if she falls really hard for him and has to see his mother knowing what she did to shame Cane…. Well, Mattie knows she has to put her family before a crush. REED: (coughing) Yeah, okay. I understand. Duty calls and all that. I guess I'll see you around. MATTIE: Right… Mattie hears a dial-tone in her ear. She tosses down her phone and lays down on her bed, staring up at the ceiling, feeling impossibly sad. --- Back at a Cheap Motel, in Room 311, Chelsea looks ready to hit Chloe again but Kevin quickly maneuvers between them. Bella has seen everything and is whimpering. Chelsea looks at the little girl. She’s an innocent in all of this. Chelsea feels badly for her but can't stop how she feels either. KEVIN: (addressing Chelsea) Chelsea, I know you’re angry, but come on. Hitting Chloe solves nothing. CHELSEA: You’re right it doesn't. Seeing Chloe hauled away in handcuffs will solve everything though. Chelsea hits the first 1 on the phone. Chloe reaches for the phone but Chelsea pulls away. She is about to complete the call to the police. CHLOE: Please, Chelsea, please. Don't do this. I can prove Adam is alive. I can prove it to you right now. Chelsea looks at Chloe, searching her old friend’s face for any sincerity. Chloe is crying and Chelsea is too. CHELSEA: Why are you doing this to me? Adam’s dead. You know that because you were the one who killed him. CHLOE: He’s alive! If I could have faked my death, why couldn’t I have done it for somebody else too? Chelsea looks caught between doubtfulness and wanting to believe her husband is out there somewhere -- alive. Her love for Adam wins out. CHELSEA: Show me the proof. Show me the proof dammit! Right now. CHLOE: I need your phone. CHELSEA: Oh no, you don’t. CHLOE: Yes, I do. I don’t have my phone and I need to call the person who is helping me take care of Adam. CHELSEA: ‘Take care’ of him? Oh this is insanity. Why am I even entertaining this conversation? CHLOE: Because, you know deep down that Adam is alive. You can feel it. That’s why I tried so hard to make you look in the other direction. Because, I knew you wouldn’t let him go otherwise. Now please give me the phone so I can call the person holding Adam. CHELSEA: I don’t trust you. I want to talk to Adam myself. I want to hear his voice. CHLOE: (nodding) Okay. But, then you have to swear you’ll let us go. CHELSEA: Chloe... CHLOE: Swear, Chelsea. CHELSEA: Fine. But, I want to talk to my husband. Now! --- Back at Victoria's Home, Reed walks back into the living room, a dejected expression on his face. VICTORIA: What happened? REED: (kicking a leg on the coffee table) She turned me down. VICTORIA: Why? Was it because of the situation I told you about concerning her father's firing? REED: (slipping his hands into the pockets of his jeans) I don’t know. Maybe? (shrugs) It doesn’t matter. VICTORIA: For what it’s worth, I’m sorry, Reed. REED: Like I said, doesn’t matter. (Points to the staircase) I’m going to my room. Night. VICTORIA: (looking solemn) Good night, son. -- Back at the Cheap Motel, in Room 311, Chelsea slowly hands Chloe the phone. She blocks the door with her petite body hoping to keep them inside until she can talk to Adam. She doesn’t know why, but she thinks Chloe might be telling the truth this time. At least, she is hoping so. CHELSEA: Dial! CHLOE: (punches in some numbers) Pick up, pick up already. Chelsea watches Chloe expectantly, afraid to hope, afraid not to. The phone is answered on the fourth ring. A woman we can’t see answers. WOMAN: Who is this? CHLOE: It’s Chloe. WOMAN: Where are you calling from? I don’t recognize this number. CHLOE: It’s not my phone. Look, I need you to put our ‘favorite patient’ on the phone. WOMAN: What? That’s not part of the plan. You’re not supposed to have any contact with him or the other patient. That was our deal. CHLOE: (Impatiently) Just put him on! WOMAN: You never order me around. CHLOE: Please! Put him on. This is important. The woman grumbles and there is noise in the background. Chloe holds out the phone to Chelsea. CHELSEA: (hopefully) Adam? Adam, honey, it’s Chelsea. Is that...is that you? ADAM: (groggily) Chelsea? CHELSEA: (tears running down her face) Oh my god! Adam. Is that you? This isn’t one of Chloe’s tricks? ADAM: It’s me. I really didn’t believe I’d ever hear from you again. Chloe. She did this. You can’t trust her. You can’t believe anything she says. CHELSEA: Shh. It's alright. Just tell me where you are and I’ll come and get you. I’ll come get you right now. ADAM: I’m in some kind of hospital. Or clinic. The head nurse is... Chloe rips the phone from Chelsea’s ear. Chelsea stares at her in rage and goes to dive for the phone. Chloe jumps back and Kevin blocks Chelsea’s path. To get to Chloe, she would have to mow down Bella and she can’t bring herself to do that. CHELSEA: I can’t believe you! You’ve been keeping Adam a prisoner all of this time? He sounds very groggy. Have you been drugging him? How can you be so cruel, Chloe? So despicable? CHLOE: He killed Delia! He had to pay! CHELSEA: It was an accident! You know that as well as I do. CHLOE: It doesn’t matter. Dee is gone. I can’t hold her or talk to her or even see her. Adam ruined everything! CHELSEA: Where are you keeping my husband? Tell me right now. CHLOE: I will. But, you have to let us go first. CHELSEA: Oh really. And how’s that supposed to work? CHLOE: You let us go. Give us a twelve-hour head start. At exactly 9 a.m. tomorrow morning, I’ll call your house from a pay phone and tell you where you can find Adam. CHELSEA: I don’t trust you. CHLOE: That’s the deal. You let us go or you’ll never know where Adam is. CHELSEA: Chloe, don’t do this. CHLOE: You can’t call the cops on us. If we see even one police officer, the deal falls through. CHELSEA: You’re such a cold negotiator. How could I have ever thought you were my friend? CHLOE: I did what I had to do, Chelsea. If you were in my shoes and someone killed Connor, you’d want justice too. CHELSEA: Yes, I would. But not like this. Adam didn’t mean it. CHLOE: It doesn’t matter what Adam meant! Are you letting us go, or not? Chelsea looks at Kevin instead. Her eyes show pleading. CHELSEA: Kevin, tell me the truth. Can I trust Chloe to tell me where Adam really is? KEVIN: You can trust me. I will make sure Chloe gives you those directions. I promise. Chelsea looks very torn. Finally, she nods. CHELSEA: Fine. No cops. But, I am begging you, Chloe and Kevin, don’t trick me. Just don’t do it again. CHLOE: We won’t. I swear. Chelsea wants to say Chloe’s promises mean nothing, but she can’t. She actually heard Adam’s voice. She knows in her heart and soul that he’s really alive. She has to go along with Chloe’s plan or she might never see her husband again. KEVIN: (looking at Chelsea remorsefully) Take care of yourself, Chelsea. Chelsea doesn’t answer. She just steps aside as Kevin and Bella edge through the door. She grabs Chloe by the arm at the last minute, whispering in her ear threateningly. CHELSEA: Don’t double-cross me, Chloe. Or else. You think dealing with the police is bad? If you cross me, there will be nowhere you can hide. I will come after you. Chloe looks shaken, but just nods. She throws Chelsea’s phone to the ground and crunches it under her heel, ensuring Chelsea can’t call the police the second their back is turned. Chelsea watches as they put Bella into her car seat. Chloe takes the passenger's seat, and Kevin, the driver’s. Chelsea tries to mentally scribble down their license plate number so she can use it if she has to. She’s hoping somehow that she won’t have to. She wants her husband back more than anything. He's worth so much more than revenge. When Chloe, Kevin and Bella are gone, Chelsea is left standing in their dust. She finally drops to her knees and begins to cry into her hands. She feels the crushing weight of the world bearing down on her shoulders... END OF EPISODE 2. |

Mattie and Reed...young love at its finest here Mattie deciding not to go out with Reed after all because of his mother firing her father and now she is going to stay away from Reed I bet that must make her twin brother Charlie happy because Charlie and Reed there is no love lost there Charlie hates Reed and the feeling is mutual on Reed's part he can't stand Charlie for obvious reasons and now with all this Brash & Sassy business and Cane's firing I could see why Maddie doesn't want to go out with Reed anymore never mind the fact that it isn't Reed's fault...but I bet it is only a matter of time before Maddie decides to go out with Reed anyway Cane still lying to his teenage son Charlie and his teenage daughter Mattie about his situation I mean how much longer can he really keep Juliet and her baby a secret from his children? I mean how long can he keep up with not telling them that Juliet is pregnant and that Cane is most likely the father of that baby...I am just surprised that Lily hasn't told her teenage children yet because sooner or later Charlie and Mattie will find out the truth I mean people talk around town and there is always GC Buzz the newspapers or even online articles how much longer can they really stay in the dark? Adam being alive...there is audio proof of Adam being alive...Chelsea actually managed to talk to her dead husband Adam over the phone but how can we even be sure that the man talking on the phone was really even Adam? How can we even be sure that Adam really is alive? Chloe could still be lying...if Adam is alive then him being drugged and being held prisoner somewhere in a clinic by Chloe...Chloe is working with someone but who is she working with? I mean Adam said the head nurse was someone...who could it be? Perhaps it is Dr. Anderson I mean stranger things have happened on Y & R...but then again if Adam is alive I wonder how Nick will feel about his brother being alive? It changes things a lot because Chelsea would still be married to Adam |
