Because uTorrent isn't completely all about pirating. So, therefore, you can't say it's about pirating. There's MORE than a single case that says otherwise. Meaning that, your logic is invalid. Ispo facto columbo oreo, uTorrent is NOT all about pirating. No offense, but This is a quick rant I want to make that's related, and I apologize for any insults I fling. I honestly hate people, with half-formed opinions without actually knowing the entirety of the situation, and then continue on how they're always right. I'll admit, I've been one of them several times, but, when you haven't even touched the program or pirated via uTorrent (Mind you, LimeWire doesn't require uTorrent to work), you can't say it's all about pirating, or anything about it at all. EDIT: This is what happens when I forget to quote. Olol. Look, it doesn't promote pirating, instead, it promotes a form of Peer-2-Peer (P2P) transfer, which may or may not be illegal. If I've got this awesome as fuck game save in Minecraft, and I want EVERYONE to be able to see how awesome, I can make a torrent file of it, upload it to somewhere like PirateBay, and let people download the awesome save. The Save is mine, the torrent is mine, and then it becomes their's. How would that be illegal? Edited by Shanix, Dec 20 2011, 03:54 PM.

You're literally a fucking moron. Oh this is just a quick rant, don't mind any personal insults. Believe it or not I've pirated (oh my god!), and my little non-Patriotic brother is a huge pirate believer. I didn't say P2P was illegal, in case you can't read, I said uTorrent PROMOTES pirating. See the difference? PROMOTES. At least some if not most of the items transferred via P2P and uTorrent are illegal. Anything copyrighted shared via P2P is illegal, agree with it or not.
All of this is completely besides the point of the SOPA/ PIPA bills. |

First off, can we agree that insults are fine in this situation, because its something that's very heated to begin with? And that insults mean nothing outside of the thread. Secondly, it might promote pirating in some cases, but, there are some reasons it doesn't. I got uTorrent, at first, to download something a friend told me about, that was distributed via uTorrent legally. Anyways...back, to SOPA/PIPA. You do realize it's blatant corporate censorship, right? |

A&D stays A&D. Anyone who can keep up the insults deserves mad props for not going emo. You aren't emo are you? Look I play Devil's advocate because its fun, interesting, and pisses people off generally. I'm the general, standard, old fashioned GOP man. Conservative, family oriented, Patriotism, etc etc. I'm absolutely against pirating and if sites such as uTorrent (whether its pirating or not), PirateBay, etc were shut down - I'd be just fine with that. This bill isn't exactly on my good list though. If in fact it can shut down sites like Facebook and YouTube, I'll be pissed like every other normal American out there. They may experience the Occupy Movement on a whole new level if this bill takes effect. On a side note - you outta google corporate censorship. You're using it completely in the wrong sense. A more appropriate term is internet censorship, and possibly government censorship. On another side note - for kicks and shits I looked up internet censorship around the world off of what we were talking about earlier. Other than the usual retarded middle eastern Islamic countries, only China, Korea, Russia, India and a few other of the stani countries have IC. |

Eenope... This was recent. Like, December 9, 2011 recent. Universal Media Group got MegaUpload taken down, for whatever BS reason they had. So, a bunch of artists, independent of any labels, came together to make a song supporting the site. They uploaded it to youtube, got a fair few views, then UMG came in and said "Fuck that shit, that's our copyright, but it isn't really, but that doesn't matter and we want that video gone because it makes us look bad." There was no actual copyright infringement, not a single bit of it. But, they were able to take it down. That's exactly what SOPA/PROTECT IP Act (Turns out that's the actual acronym, I lol at it every time) will do. Any company in less than 5% of the US' economy can call "Copyright" and any site they want can be taken down in a half second (Or however long it takes to DNS Block a site). |

I've never heard of MegaUpload, but I'd have to read about it before talking about it. It looks like corporate censorship, but you make pretty much anything look like censorship. You act like the government wants the internet shut down... believe it or not, government is set up to protect citizens. They aren't going to go around willy nilly shutting sites down because some corporation says so. Really, we don't know exactly what powers it'll have yet. It has yet to be passed, and its powers are yet to be defined. It could end up destroying the internet, forcing people to move to Canada, and causing outright rebellion. Or, it'll make people like me happy and poor people who can't afford to pay attention to copyright laws mad. |

Then why can anyone be arrested by military police, for however fuck long they want, for, quite literally, no reason at all. |

Youre such an ignorant child, really. That bill will allow anyond with terrorist connections to be detained indefinitely PROTECTING NORMAL AMERICANS. It sounds kind of scary, but seriously - unless you say bomb, detonate, allah, and various other keywords repeatedly during a conversation, the military doesnt care. Take it from someone who knows, intelligence agencies know whats what. They know if you have actual terrorist connections, despite what your local conspiracy theorists might tell you. You honestly think the military wants to detain people just for shits and kicks? Get real. |

No, Caleb, legally, I could say "I don't like X about [current administration]" No wait, I could live, and that's ground, by the law of the bill. Sure, it might be used only for terrorist threats, and I would agree with you on that (Only if that), but, legally, they can detain anyone they want for no reason. Say it's for terrorists all you want, but, they can do that and be in the legal right (If I might make an analogy, we're arguing the same thing. Such as, I say 1 is greater than 2, and you say 2 is greater than 3. We're both right, but on different points that are still related). I never said they do it for shits and giggles, however, they can do it for shits and giggles if they wanted to. I not calling into question who would be arrested for whatever reason (even though one ISN'T NEEDED), I'm calling into question the entire fucking thing. It's something that could be oh so easily corrupted, admit it. Edited by Shanix, Dec 24 2011, 03:43 PM.

Again, take it from someone who actually knows - few phone calls are monitored, few are paid attention to. Quit being so ridiculous, you sound worse than the other caleb. As for the military detention - they could, but they wont. Thats the bottom line. |
