Version 1.82 is out now. Quote: PS3 Firmware 1.82 Released on playstation network now. The 1.82 update is going to add AVC-MP4-H.264 High Profile and this may finally open up AVC-MP4 conversion as the main way to go. And there is better software that will write AVC-MP4-H.264 High Profile at the higher bitrates and 1080p resolution. AVC-MP4-H.264 Main Profile only. Plus the PS3 is very restrictive about what it considers is a valid file fitting that profile, ergo, Unsupported Data or Corrupt Data File. A few software like PS3 Video 9, Nero AVC, Super-C and a couple of others are able to write PS3-compatible AVC-MP4 but all of those programs have serious conversion issues, mainly maximum bitrate. Not very interesting at all, but oh well.

This new firmware adds the following new features: Ability to add Flash wallpapers Seemingly faster XMB load times XMB screensaver option (which was originally part of version 1.90) Improvements on Internet Browser application Auto power off for the controllers Thumbnails in the video section Synchronized game clips in the games folder load up Faster transition from game to XMB Updated PSOne/PS2 controller compatibility

In addition, we are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested. I've been having a few issues with connecting on Warhawk, don't know if that's to do with the firmware or the game, but glad to know they're fixing it quite quickly.
