Anyway, you all may recall the speculation that Sony was prepared to launch a new Slim PlayStation 3 model. The supposed evidence came from a Chinese manufacturer and as they're hardly official, we don't really want to post the leaked pics here. But you can see one at Live PlayStation, who says that according to the UK's PSW Magazine, there is a striking similarity between the PS3 Slim photo and the early PSP Go packaging. The magazine reads:

"The PS3 Slim Packaging looks almost identical to the confirmed PSP Go, so it isn't a fake. Expect the smaller, lighter PS3 to be announced at the Tokyo Games Show in September, just in time for Xmas."

According to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, who attended a meeting with GameStop executives, "Management believes that a meaningful PS3 cut is highly likely in the near-term. We continue to believe a $100 price cut on PS3 will occur around the launch of EA's Madden NFL 2010, which is scheduled for release on 8/18."

French Web site UltimatePS3.fr (linked above) is reporting today that marketing posters have arrived at French retailer Micromania promoting the stock of “New PlayStation 3s”.

This comes just days after the PS3 Slim was discovered in a Micromania database listing.

The posters give no details on price or dates, and the price is to be filled in at the retailer's own discretion.

To quote, roughly translated: While doubts remained about the arrival of a new model of PS3, we learn by a member of our forum Micromania received this morning a POP (picture support) aimed at promoting a new model. We knew the price was about to fall, now it is assumed that a new version of the console will be marketed.

This now removes any ambiguity: a new model of PS3 will land in our stores! The scenario that emerges is that the PS3 "Old" to 299 euros, the PS3 "New" to 399 euros. Confirmation or denial tonight with the press conference of Sony, for each of 19-hour Ultimate PS3.

Please note that to date, if the buzz of the web a new model called the "Slim PS3", this expression is currently seen anywhere.

Sony PS3 Price Cuts & New Model Confirmed

Major retailers in the US and in the UK have started to cut the price of the Sony Playstation 3 gaming console ahead of the quasi-official release of a new cheaper, slimmer and more "mature" PS3 model.

Sony is expected to make the announcement at a Gamescom press conference which is scheduled for this afternoon in Cologne, Germany.

UK-based ASDA, which is part of retailing giant, Walmart, has started to offer the 80GB PS3 console for as little as £250 instore only with the film "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" on Blu-ray and the game "Terminator Salvation", plus either Ghostbusters The Game or Infamous.

The console is currently out of stock online at the usual £287. According to Gamesindustry.biz who was briefed by one spokesperson from Asda, said that the offer would continue "until stock ran out".

Works out about £3 a month. Worth every penny for the online features and advantages you get. Plus, every multiplatform game looks and performs better on the 360. PS3 is good for exclusives and thats about it.
