No improvement yet. Still laggy and rubber-banding.

Encountered two nice bugs yesterday.

One I've seen before... I was diving underwater, and when I came back up the sound was still "under water sound", all muffled and bubbly... until I died :)

Then the game made me sick, literally.
A sniper was taking shots at me, and I jumped from one of the cliffs just as he shot at me but missed. And you know how your screen wobbles a bit when you're getting surpressed... that wobbliness wouldn't stop. When I was running, proning or aiming, the screen was moving like if I was on a boat. Only played like that for about 2 minutes until I was killed, but I had to stop playing, as I got sea sick.

Been off work 4 days, and played quite a bit on thursday-friday.
At that time the game was almost completely lag free, and I was playing really well, and had some of my best rounds ever:

K/D: 47/18
http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/32/457281306292597376/172948703/

K/D: 38/18

3.83 K/D ratio
http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/32/457858055928677440/172948703/

Unlike Jimmy however I didn't stop when I was doing good, and sunday and monday it was mostly back to the old über laggy game again, where the rubberbanding comes and goes.
A few new bugs occured...
One time I could not do anything but run and gun, which at times can be a valid tactic, but I could not switch weapons, reload or aim down sight. No buttons except R2 worked. Spawned under the map twice on NA maps and was kicked for being inactive 5 seconds after I joned a server.

Nice,
While I can feel that the rent-a-server on BF3 did mess some things up, It'd be nice to see a few servers with mixed map (pack) rotation, like you said earlier JJ.

First experience of a rented server wasn't very positive. I wasn't at home, so maybe it was my parents' crappy internet, or maybe it's not a good idea to join an obviously French one, as your more likely to be playing people all from the same country!

The games we had in the Dice server before were great.

Didn't seem to be many servers running a mix of different maps either.

Loving Carrier Assault tho, just a shame it can obv only run on the 4 new maps and it still feels a little short compared to conquest.

Quite the opposit for me.
I had a few great games on wednesday evening.
First of all, after the new "better servers" was introduced there is lot more official hardcores servers than before.

And I played in two rented hardcore servers for hours, one Swedish and one German, and it played just perfect.

And those two rented ones had some of my favourite maps from all the map packs.

Still finding the rented servers good Jez? Hate to be a cynical bastard (:eyes:) but the rented servers come out mere days after they roll out the "high performance server solution"? Are the rented servers running on the old servers? Because I've just found them to be horrible.

Sticking to the Dice servers from now on.

No it's been working fine for me...

I've played in Swedish, German and a "nordic" server as well as a few I couldn't tell the origins of, but they have all been working flawless.
The only "lag" I've seen was a drop in frame rate one of the maps during carrier assault which lasted a few minutes. Other than that, many hours of perfect gameplay.

One idea for DICE. Let the user renting ther server block classes and/or weapons.
Found a server that was called "NO RECON CLASS! - Conquest Hardcore"
I thought that'd be interesting how it would play out without snipers.
The description while loading; "No Snipers, No Recon Class".

Map loaded, I spawned. 2 minutes later after being killed 6 times by snipers I rage quit.

Sounds promising

Lag has been pretty terrible the last few times i've played. Hopefully this actually improves things and isn't just PR crap.

Be aware its says you have to turn on the high frequency network option, by deafult its off. Not sure how it improves things if not all players are forced to get information from the server at a higher frequency, but i'll try it out before making my mind up!

We’re happy to announce that we’ve released an update for PC, PS3, and X360 consoles today containing the new improved “Netcode” for Battlefield 4. The update will be released later this week on PS4 and Xbox One.

This update has been developed using the CTE (Community Test Environment) on PC (you can sign up if you haven’t done so already at http://cte.battlelog.com), and is the first update being deployed using your gameplay feedback.

The number of changes possible in this update would be difficult to pull off without the continued support from our community, both through direct constructive feedback and telemetry data gathered on the CTE.

High Frequency Network Update

For the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms, we are adding something we nicknamed the “High Frequency Bubble”.

Within a certain radius of the player, we add the possibility to update the clients at a higher rate from the server. What this essentially means is that the server will update the client on what is happening more often than before. This normally results in a smoother, more “correct” player experience.

The High Frequency Update is by default turned OFF in this release. You will have to enable this setting to take advantage of the improved networking. To support players with a limited bandwidth connection, we support three different levels: LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH. Most players with a connection faster than 1Mbit should be fine using the HIGH setting. If you experience any issues, lower or turn off the setting completely.

Playstation 4 & Xbox One Server Performance

The High Frequency Update will be rolled out to all 48 player servers and on a small set of 64 player servers immediately. We will then keep a close eye on the larger servers to make sure server performance stays good in the live environment. If all goes well, all servers will be supporting the high frequency update after 24 hours or rollout and testing.

Again, it's been working pretty good for me lately.
But anything that's for the better, I guess is... for the better.

But seeing as they only roll it out on 48 players servers first, I guess they could anticipate some problem with it on bigger servers.
Gotta try it out.

The "big" patch that came out for this is quite an interesting one. Fixed a lot of netcode stuff, game seems very stable, only thing I've noticed a couple of times is frame rate drops again. Grenades have been nerfed, you only get one impact and all the grenades regenerate slower. Gunship re spawns less frequently, although I'd rather not at all!

I wanna give Rush a go as well, they finally got rid of Commander mode in Rush, so no more constantly being under UAV, and they've moved a lot of the M-Coms.

The two big changes are to recoil and assault rifle damage though. Apparently BF4 had a visual recoil mechanic, so it looks like your gun is everywhere, but in fact your bullets aren't going that far and wide, that's gone. Assault rifle damage is down one hit point per bullet, so it's 5 bullets to kill, instead of 4.

These two things mean SMG's and Carbines are far more effective now, seen loads of people using M-TAR & ACW-R. High fire-rate seems the way to go, seems a bit of shame really, thought it was well balanced before. Think I might give the AEK a go now the recoil should be more manageable.

Oh and 3 slams only do vehicle damage to LAV's and Tanks now, so are basically useless! :o(
