First glimpes at Naval Strike, the next DLC pack for Battlefield 4

Quote:

Battlefield 4 Naval Strike takes the dramatic water-based combat introduced in Battlefield 4 to four all-new maps set in the South China Sea. Take control over new weapons and gadgets, pilot the new hovercraft vehicle, and experience the Carrier Assault game mode in this intense expansion pack. Read on for details and the first official screenshots.

Take the Fight to the Sea
Water-based combat has always been a vital part of the all-out war of Battlefield 4, and with Battlefield 4 Naval Strike the fights at sea are more intense than ever. With the introduction of the amphibious hovercraft vehicle, your possibilities to dominate the sea will be even greater.

Four All-New Multiplayer Maps
Blow open a crashed passenger plane and capture fishing villages across the tropical Lost Islands. Drop a submarine on your foes as you infiltrate a naval base or rush between shipping docks and rocky islands on the massive Wave Breaker map. Wage war across stormy seas in the largest ocean stretch in a Battlefield map yet with Nansha Strike. Storm an abandoned cliff-side resort, or get lost in the breathtaking vistas in Operation Mortar.

A Classic Game Mode Re-Imagined
Battlefield 4 Naval Strike lets you re-live the classic Titan Mode of Battlefield 2142, with the introduction of the Carrier Assault game mode. Stay tuned to the Battlefield Blog for more details on this re-imagining of a classic.

Battlefield 4 Naval Strike will be released late March for Battlefield 4 Premium members. To get a two-week head start with Battlefield 4 Naval Strike and other upcoming Battlefield 4 expansion packs, secure a Battlefield 4 Premium membership.

Titan mode sounds good, looks like each team will have a massive carrier going around the map, each team then plays conquest as normal, whoever wins gets to attack the other teams carrier, as it is protected until the conquest game is over. This is how i've heard it might work anyway, sounds like a mix of Conquest and Rush.

:)

Its great to see some developers actually attempting to come up with new game modes nowadays, i think Obliteration is brilliant.

As the filters are acting wierd at the moment, and I'm alwasy playing hardcore I've only got into an Obliteration game once, last week.

What are you supposed to do, besides killing people?

Both sides have 3 bomb sites to destroy. One bomb spawns in at random locations, and you've gotta carry it to the bomb site and plant it basically. Get all 3 to win, or the team with the most destroys wins.

Its quite a good game of cat and mouse, and it feels quite similar to American Football or Rugby where gaining territory is really important, so even if you pick it up and get it 100 meters further forward, its really helpful.

When it gets stuck in the water on Paracel Storm you can get some really epic pistol fights in the water!

I read somewhere that DICE have decided that it was a mistake or that they're decided to change it so you can't constantly see the person with the bomb. Think it works great as it is personally.

With the latest patch, load of stuff has been added in preparation for Naval Strike, you can see how Carrier Assault is going to work.

Looks like the carriers are going to be static, looks great tho imo. My only worry about this DLC is that i find the attack boats a bit OP in BF4.

Some details on the levolution on this:

Quote:

What kind of Levolution can we expect in Naval Strike? Will there be storms like the one in Paracel Storm?
In Naval Strike we have been focusing on how the player can interact within the levels to create and block paths for vehicles, or make other strategic use of the environments. For example, you will be able to close flood doors to stop vehicles from entering a submarine base and capturing the objective inside. You can also blow up part of a crashed airplane to create new cover for infantry.

As for storms, instead of copying what has already been done in Paracel Storm, you can expect different visual styles and weather on all four Naval Strike maps. There’ll be calm seas, stormy weather and many other weather effects. For instance, on the Mortar Strike map, you’ll start fighting at dawn and the map will be lit up by the resort lights. As the fight rages on, the sunrise will drench the tropical island in beautiful sunlight.

Sounds pretty awesome, love the sound of a map that starts dark and gets lighter, i suppose this was the idea behind 'Dawnbreaker', but i don't really notice it, hopefully its more dramatic than that.

Some screens and map layouts can be seen here:

Well this looks like another mess for BF4. DLC was delayed pretty last minute on PC and Xbone, and on PS4 everyone is reporting serious lag / rubber banding issues. Me and Lew tried to play last night, and pretty much came to this conclusion as well, we gave and up and played the standard maps. It must have been such a late decision to delay that it was already on the PSN Store?

Also the maps seemed a little small for 64 players, it was very hectic, huge groups of enemies together etc. I don't mind this on Metro where you know where people are coming from, but on such an open map, i just found it frustrating.

And there are no Carrier Assault Small or Conquest Small servers atm on PS4 of course.

Carrier Assault just seems to fly by in about 10/15 mins, which is really short compared to the usual Conquest games. Only played a couple of games, but it seems like a real wasted opportunity, because in theory it should be great. Hopefully they can patch it.

What JJ said.

have tried to play this 3 days in a row.
First day I could only find 4 servers (hardcore) and all of them had only one bar on the ping thingy.

The last two days I've been able to join more servers with full connection, but only after a few minutes the game becomes laggy, bordeline unplayable.

Can't understand how these problems can be in the game, it's what, 4 months since release? And this isn't some low budget developer and publisher.

The maps seem good, but only tried Conquest.

Last time i played i was finding it horrible in standard maps and 32 player servers.

Latest blog, suggests they're upgrading servers:

Quote:

We wanted to provide a quick update on the issues with Battlefield 4 “rubber banding” that some players on certain platforms have experienced during matches with 64 players.

Looking into this further, we’re unhappy with our server performance, so we’ll be upgrading the hardware as soon as possible, investing more to deliver a better experience.

As soon as we know the exact timetable, we’ll let you know the ETA. Reducing lag for these players is absolutely a top priority for us to solve and we expect to have the solution very soon.

Stay tuned to our official channels for more information.
